The LS400 and SC400 are widely recognized as the best, or most, over engineered cars ever built.
      Lexus started off very strong. Unquestionably they did make some mistakes leading to lower quality with some models. But nothing as drastic as the rolling piles of electronic woe from the Fatherland.
      The big three Teutonic builders are an okay choice while under warranty. I switched from the Tesla Model Y to the Lexus RZ450e (18 inch wheels) with latest software update that unlocks more range and efficiency, and it was the best decision ever. Do not listen to the skeptics / critics who tested pre-production or early production vehicles with the old software. With latest software updates, the range and efficiency is amazing. 95% of my driving is in the city (Washington DC) at speeds below 35 MPH and I average well over 4.5 kWh/mi. On a recent drive, I got 7.2 kWh/mi. 18 inch wheels (NOT 21 inch wheels) and using regen at lowest setting is key to getting maximum efficiency because Lexus designed an adaptive automatic regen braking system that recognizes when the car needs to slow down (for curves or stopped traffic) and blends in appropriate regen and friction braking as needed to simulate a true one pedal driving experience.
      The RZ hits 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. Its ride quality, powertrain refinement, quietness and sound system all blow the Tesla Model Y away. Lexus discounted this heavily so it ended up being a $43,000 car.
      As for the Normal/Eco/Range settings, once you sign in, it remembers your preferred settings. The radiant heat feature is genius BTW - feels like a warm blanket on your legs. Safety features like Safe Exit Assist prevent doors from opening if a car or cyclist is approaching (can be overridden). There are so many thoughtful touches and safety features, makes Tesla looks pretty crude and ancient.

    Seriously - I’d love someone to explain why there is seemingly zero discussion about efficiency of EVs? Total range is fine but when you tie it to the total capacity of the battery, that’s like saying my dual tank Ford van has more range than my VW Golf. It’s a stupid meaningless comparison. Tell us how many km/100kw or whatever these things get.

    • @BrickBlocker
      @BrickBlocker Před rokem

    I switched from the Tesla Model Y to the Lexus RZ450e (18 inch wheels) with latest software update that unlocks more range and efficiency, and it was the best decision ever. Do not listen to the skeptics / critics. The range and efficiency is amazing. 95% of my driving is in the city (Washington DC) at speeds below 35 MPH and I average well over 4.5 kWh/mi. On a recent drive, I got 7.2 kWh/mi. Using regen at lowest setting is key to getting maximum efficiency because Lexus designed an adaptive automatic regen braking system that recognizes when the car needs to slow down (for curves or stopped traffic) and blends in appropriate regen and friction braking as needed to simulate a true one pedal driving experience.
    The RZ’s ride quality, powertrain refinement, quietness and sound system all blow the Tesla Model Y away.

    The one thing I wonder, is if the car has a slow charging power. On the go, charging fast is good, but when it’s sitting at home charging slowly makes it so the battery has a longer life, since charging fast reduces that life if you do it too much.

    Really appreciate the frank review. Most car “review” channels are too muted when it comes to large & influential OEM because if you’re too honest, OEM will stop inviting to the next press release and unlike tech like cellphone, purchasing one just for the review is out of question for most reviewers. This was kind of fine in ICE era because cars are established to the point that there’s no huge miss… but in EV, it’s a huge problem because most OEMs are still new at it.

    I own an older Lexus and I love mine because it’s old it’s got a V8 it has a cushy suspension even though weighs nearly 5000 pounds. Best sound system in a car I’ve owned and it’s just really comfortable. It’s surprising to see how many features my car has that the newer cars don’t. I have heated and cooled, front seats, heated rear seats, air suspension, fully auto climate control, and a couple other things. Everything just works because it’s not over complicated the newer cars have less features the overcomplicated they’re trying to involve all this new infotainment systems and they’re just fucking it all up

    Such a massive car and no spare tyre??? The repair kits are generally useless (especially if you have low profile tyres as you generally rip the sidewall open when you get a flat while driving)
    I have had to drop spare wheel/tyres off to people in car clubs who have got a flat and realised the repair kit is dribbling out of the tyre.
    Also, people need to move on from SUV's, bring back station wagons! They have more room, and look way way better!
