Pokemon Sword and Shield offer a ton of encounters because of the Wild Area... but will they be enough for the Flying type to make its way through a hardcore nuzlocke!?
We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Sword Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Flying types?

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of trading/importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

I did a normal type hardcore Nezlock in Pokemon shield... I only made past the fairy gym... There is oddly enough (at least with my luck) not that many good readily available normal types early, and yet there kind of is, there's just not enough readily available coverage for them... Especially for the grass gym, at least from my experience? Freaking lost most of my team besides I think only my Skovet to the grass gym, me god that Conttenee be tanky when ya only have like one super effective move against it... On only one party member. I may try again in the future, but idk
Edit: I wasn't able to get hoothoot or noctowl until I beated the water gym cuz I got a different encounter... Having two normal and flying types would have been helpful in the grass gym😅
Edit: also I had Hop choose scrobunny.... Which along with his Wooloo learns double kick.... Pain... All I have learned from my first, not just hardcore Nezlock, but my first actually Nezlock in general... Is pain... I all learned was pain😅
Edit: I also didn't use raid dens, except for getting items... I couldn't catch anything from them... But to be fair the only normal type I found in any of them was evee... Sooooooo
Edit( final one hopefully): I did allow myself to use the dlc areas... But that was after I was down to one pokemon, if I gotten far enough to attempt not getting my team sweep from the battle at the start of the crown tundra (which I would have considered a loss for the run if all me mons died), I would, like with the Isle of armor, would have only used it in emergencies... I wouldn't allow myself to catch/use anything from the max raid den adventures though😅
All those encounters you couldn't reach? You know you can push in the left thumbstick to whistle and make them come to you, right?

I think it'd be interesting to see a challenge using only Pokemon of a body type.
Gen IV onwards has assigned each Pokemon a 'shape' (different from an egg group), based on appearance.
Many pokemon change body types as they evolve, for example Mudkip is 'quadrupedal' but Marshtomp is 'bipedal w/ tail', so you wouldn't be allowed to evolve it in a quadruped-only run.
I tried this on Emerald and it was a fun challenge. It restricts the number of encounters almost as much as a monotype game, but has a different set of difficulties. I think this could make for an interesting themed nuzlocke team.

Isn't Swampert quadrupedal too, though? So you could still use it if you exp share/rare candy it through its middle evolution
It would be like his other runs where if it isn't the starter it can't see active battle till it evolves

Yeah, since it used to be so weak nobody ever used it.
I mean, damn well good they got to it. we have so many bug types that benefitted from it. and non bug types like crobat
Buffed fury cutter too. I LOVE the bug type (I know it's odd) and seeing them get some love with boosted moves and better new pokemon makes me very happy

When it comes out I hope we can get a Brilliant Diamond Hardcore with dark types! You get a bunch of awesome options like Honchkrow, Skuntank, Drapion, Weavile, etc!

I feel like skuntank is looked down on a ton while a nuzlock is exactly what it needs to shine having such an early access to poison gas and toxic. Sadly I'm not sure a dark type nuzlock would be possible due to when you get you're first dark type
@@_Yuputka_ I mean, technically you can get it around the second gym, with the exploration kit. Pretty sure you can use that to find houndoom in BDSP
@@fletch2772 before the second gym actually, in eternal forest you can get a murkrow. It's just that the forest is a decent bit into the game

I just remembered that I wanted to mention the fact that, had you gone to the Isle of Armor, picking Grookey would have also given you access to the Grass/Flying-type Rowlet, which is interesting.
But I completely forgot about what I wanted to say because I became completely floored once I heard Bea be pronounced “bay-uh”

This is kinda irrelevant but the fact that only truly _flying_ Pokémon are centralized in the Team below the gameplay and the others are a little lower as they are either incapable of true flight or just decide not to is a very nice touch.
I'm pretty sure it's just placing the entire box sprite there and some of them just happen to be above however some like Corviknight are flying in their game sprite however aren't shown above in the box sprite

For future play throughs you should be able to get “out of reach” fliers by whistling at them. I think it’s click on of the right control stick.

36:14 the lagging tail doesn't make you slower, it decreases the priority of your moves by -0.5 you'd need the iron ball :)

Great run man, really enjoyed it. I really like Sword and Shield, not gonna lie. The shortcomings are there, can't deny that, but I thoroughly enjoyed my first play through about a month ago.

I bloody loved swsh. Best 3D Pokémon game IMO. I was even ok with the dex controversy knowing they would come back in time. And now the only Pokémon I still miss are starters, and disappointing, but not too bad. And then the DLC was large enough to give plenty of diversely with teams. Then the DLC came and made it my second favorite game period after platinum. So yeah that my opinion.

Perfect timing, i’m recently doing a shield nuzlocke, and the only thing i have to say is:
Screw Nessa’s Drednaw.
Perfection as usual Silph, as someone who has done wayyy too many SwSh locked I like how much you did that I do regularly, legit have that choice scarf quest to a science at this point. I will make a recommendation for Kabu btw if you ever do another run here specifically for a Fire run, get the fire stone in the wild area and get a Vulpix before the first gym because the move relearner if you evolve it will get you nasty plot flamethrower and extrasensory, this also guarantees a sizzlipede if you avoid every rolycoly on the route before the mine and catch the Carkol in said mine you can guarantee you get a sizzilipede on the route before the mine AND this means you are guaranteed a Litwick in the fire gym which is the most optimal path imo so it’s a very good start if you ever do a fire run of this, idk if you ever would but maybe this could help someone else idk.

I actually did this monotype run in Shield, but I wasn’t nuzlocking. My final team was Corviknight, Hawlucha, Noivern, Emolga, Cramorant, and Talonflame.
Regular runs > nuzlockes any day, i’m doing poison only in black 2
@@Matjeee imo I'm not a huge fan of monotype nuzlockes.Ive never played a pokemon game nor do I have a Nintendo but if I ever get a chance to play,I'll start a nuzlocke right off the bat and I like to use the pokemon I like
I wouldn't mind seeing you continue in to the DLCs (exceptions made for Kubfu) with just your final pokemon after this. It was a blast!

Personally I loved pokemon sword and shield. The gyms were a great spectacle, the region was a fantastic representation of british culture and its probably got one of the most deep and inspired dexes of new pokemon we've ever got, mostly with incredible designs. The music was the best in the series with great cohesion and leitmotifs. I loved the dlc and the characters were really fun (and well designed too). Had obvious problems, but i think that it hit it where it counts: the pokemon themselves.
It is a lot better than people realise. Was nice to see such accurate localisation too, although they spelt Armour wrong for some reason

I am glad I always am looking on CZcams about stuff… This CZcamsr did this catch ‘em all for Sword (started playing only after the games been out for some time for reasons..) and in it, learned of Charmander (evolution if not early game) ciould be found in a den- ditto too, at the same den. But didn’t show or give it’s location but another CZcamsr did a vid on finding the den & getting the encounter. Was so sweet lol. Didn’t have to do my first run without a gen 1 Pokémon, and Leon had nothing for me to be jealous of/ about lol 😅
I basically attempted this flying type hardcore nuzlocke a couple months back, and similarly only emerged from the champion battle with one mon left standing - togekiss, which i am honestly surprised was left unused. What I can say about your run was u could potentially have saved ur gyarados, iirc most of raihans mons waste their first turn setting up weather, so u could have utilised that for extra dragon dances that MAY have gotten the kill on duraludon
At 26:17 Gyarados’ Intimidate activated Shuckle’s Contrary giving it a +1 in Attack, and hence the higher damage from Stone Edge.
Sword only Bug was a nightmare especially at the beginning. Also my rules were only Bug encounter on Routes and only one Bug encounter each wild area ONLY from max raid dens (so it is kind of random) unless you grind and use wishing star.
