Timber isn’t a natural left back mate, played his whole career at cb. 41 appearances at cb, 7 at rb and 2 at lb

Calafiori is a natural LB. Specifically an inverted one due to his technical ability. He can play CDM too which goes hand in hand with being an inverted wing back.

Signing Calafiori shows intent to fight for the title. We all know if either Gabriel/Saliba injured, it will affect the team, considering we have to cover that position with either White or Tomiyasu, having Calafiori gives us assurance and I won't be surprised if he can replace Gabriel if he's not consistent.
Calafiori ticks a lot of boxes. He starts all day at left for Arsenal.
I think team as big as Arsenal should think ahead what if an injury hits we must be prepared for the super replacement. We ve got two centre backs that played every game last season one is at Euros and another in copa America. There will be fatigue along the way
