  • The few 234Bs entered service in autumn and impressed their pilots. They were fast and completely aerobatic. The long takeoff runs led to the use of twin HWK-built, jettisonable liquid fueled monopropellant Starthilfe pioneering RATO units, one mounted under each outer wing.
Full retractable undercarriage, wing hard points for bombs

Great to see a plane of that era all shiny & sleek looking fresh out of the factory.
And by the look of the finish they'd tried really hard to turn out something special.

@@Schlipperschlopper The Germans could see into the future in the forties and copied everything that the British built in the fifties. Do not doubt what the British say, everything was invented first by them, and it was better, bigger and faster. If you do it anyway, the British are offended.

The Germans developed a time machine and went into the future to be inspired and copy the Canberra Bomber.

Very interesting footage depicting a brand new Ar 234! By looking at the interior it is quite possible that it was a pre-series product as it had a slightly different arrangement in the cockpit, a completely different cloche from the production series and it is missing the Loft 7K bombsight and other items. It was rather underpowered with the two Jumo 004 and interestingly an Ar 234 made the last German flight over England of the war...

No this was the very latest version with twin super strong BMW 003 turbines (First axial turbine with ring combustion chamber !!) and retractable landing gear. (This engine was so good that after the war it was still built by the French as SNECMA ATAR 101 for the first Mirage jet fighter with added afterburner)

Schlipperschlopper you are mentioning the final batch of 20 Arado 234-C1 or possibly the C-3! It was built around 20 of this version with 4 BMW 003 that didn't produce much trust as the Jumo 004B but it was smaller and lighter therefore achieved higher speed. The present Ar 234 on the documentary was rhe earliest pre-production batch of the Ar 234-B....

Here you can compare to the larger british Canberra Bomber made during the mid 1950s: czcams.com/video/u8OwMQ3JXKU/video.html I would love to see a restored airworthy Arado 234 directly compared to an airworthy Canberra :-)
