    i work at the Caterpillar plant in East Peoria, Illinois, USA where we build the D8,D9,D10, and D11 dozers. almost every frame (other than military dozers and a few others) has a flag painted on the inside of the frame of what country they’re going to. kinda cool to see where they end up.

    A little background on CAT. Caterpillar Inc. builds the equipment. They "sell it to a dealer" and the "dealer sells it to a customer". Dealers have a "territory", if they sell outsider their territory, they "share" the profit with the dealer that covers that "territory". CAT stocks warehouses around the world and dealers order
    parts from those warehouses. The connections between dealers and CAT Inc. are quite complicated.
    Fabick Tractor in St.Louis, MO. sold a lot of the equipment that built the Alaskan Pipeline and they paid the dealer for Alaska 10% of what he made on the deal.

That is common on any big machine delivery in a cold climate with no indoor option. • @stoneshrink
      @stoneshrink Pƙed 2 lety

      @@cnf6045 you answered your own question, they warm the steel up, it takes a bit of time for the heat to radiate back off the machine. The first thing they do is warm the motor up, that does a great deal towards keeping the metal warm enough so that water doesn't freeze the instant it touches the metal. Often it's enough to simply let the motor idle while you're cleaning it - you'll notice, though, they're not doing it in any kind of wind? that's kind of the 'secret' because once the machine warms up, the air next to the machine is warmer then the surrounding air. Add heated pressure washers, and it's pretty easy to get it clean.

    Love the continuity error in the production. "brand new" by the time he was filmed in it all the paint was gone from the blades. How many weeks had it been worked at that point?

      Doesn’t take long to shine a blade up. Especially in frozen dirt/rock.

      It was brand new, watch again there are clips where they are standing in front of it and it is still painted. Keep in mind 5his is a film production so they piece it together as they want to.

      I imagine the paint was off the blade within a couple hours of its first shift.

      @@robo1210 Ran a brand new D6 last year and had the blade and track paint gone in 30 minutes. Things you only know when you actually run equipment for a living....
