you are not prepared for how much you're going to fall in love with Brooke Davis. she and Nathan had the best character arcs I've ever seen, and honestly I mainly attribute that to how lovable the actors are.
on the topic of that pig they had for a boss, every single female actress and the majority of the female crew members wrote a letter detailing how awful their boss was. Hilarie Burton, who plays Peyton, was his "favorite" and he targeted her the most with his harassment. but they all have awful experiences, not a single person who's worked with him had a good thing to say about him. it's really sad, especially listening to their podcast and getting to know their personalities. these women are incredible and kind, and the way he took advantage of them was absolutely vile.
@corridawn3851 Hilarie Burton said in an interview with Variety that their boss started pursuing an inappropriate relationship with her in the show's third season, when he decided that she was his muse.
Nathan is one of my favorite characters of all time. And I could watch the actress who plays Brooke do just about anything. She has so much charisma. It's just entertaining anytime she's on screen.
You should definitely listen to the rewatch podcast that the girls have. It's called Drama Queens. They talk a lot about their issues and they call out the sexism on and off the set.

Okay so I grew up with One Tree Hill and it actually changed my brain chemistry. Growing up, I loved Nathan and Hailey, Nathan's character arc is just amazing in season one and two. I will say with Peyton, I can never critique her because she truly encapsulates female rage and trauma and given the fact this was released in the early 2000s she is a pretty rare character ( Kat from 10 things I hate about you is probably the inspiration). She definitely has the most tragic storyline. I absolutely loved the portrayal of friendships but the Lucas , Brooke and Peyton triangle dragged way too much and was too influenced by the drama behind the scenes.
She got a lot of Trauma in Early Age, and that was She is like this, she is afraid of people leaving her, because she lost her mom, her dad is almost never there, It's hard to hate her, when she leave a lot of pain, she has some strange mechanism with her relationship, but it's because of trauma I think. I love her so much
The kidnapping as bullying definitely happens, especially in small towns. I grew up in a tiny town in Kansas and a group of boys grabbed THE SHERIFFS kid, drove him out to a field and made him run as they tried to run him down with their truck and they didn't face any repercussions.

My favourite character is Haley, followed by Brooke. I disliked Brooke in the beginning but she has one of the best character developments I have seen in a show ❤️
Season 3 and 4 are my favorite. Naley is the best tv couple. And Brooke's development is great to see.

I once read that the actor who played Dan was the only one who kind of stepped up once when one the female actresses was mistreated by Mark Schwan (did I write his name correctly?). He didn’t know the entirety of the mistreatement but there was a Moment where he stepped up. I think it was about a scene they were supposed to film and the female actress didn’t feel comfortable but I am not so sure anymore 🤔
I can't get over that two characters are just straight up married while in high school.
They wanted them to have adult problems and it’s just kinda silly. Also when the characters just decide that they’re gonna open a record label (they’re 21 years old) and it just… works… like a couple weeks later they have a full on record label with popular artists and sh1t lol truly gave us some unrealistic standards for young adulthood.
This is my all time favourite show. Brooke Davis and Nathan Scott are just the best ever characters
In this show the actor who played Nathan was 17/18 while filming Season 1 while the rest of the main characters were in their 20s.
One Tree Hill was the total package. It had the longevity of Beverly Hills 90210, the action packed bombast of the O.C., the sentimentality and emotional intelligence of Dawson's Creek.
My absolute favorite character was Brooke (and then Hayley). Brooke was fierce, loyal and a bit broken and just looking for someone to hold on to. She was tough on the outside but had the biggest heart you could ever imagine. How Peyton and Luke could betray her in season 1 is beyond me.
I especially loved how much of a good friend she was. This side of her is especially shown in season 3 when she is one of the few who stand beside Hayley.
Yes, she made mistakes. But she made up for them and grew as a person.

I had know idea about the creator mark behavior until the cast came forward this was several years after the show ended
Lucas getting a tattoo was so they could cover up the actor's tattoo of his initials since it was getting difficult to hide with toner and the writers decided that they were going to have Lucas say to Keith that the tattoo in Mandarin says fun when in reality it actually says something else.
My favorite character is peyton the reason she's my favorite when the show originally aired i was at a dark point in my life so i did understand why she's the way she is in the first season

This was my favorite series when I was 12-14. I'd watch it every day after school on cable tv, couple years before streaming services became a mainstream thing. My favorite characters are Brooke, uncle Keith, and Peyton. I wish I could watch it for the first time again, it is such a comforting series.
i watched oth back when i was a preteen and my brother introduced me to the show and we sat and watched it everyday. its now one of my favorite shows of all time

originally there actually was gonna be something romantic between lucas and haley. i was a oth fan before it premiered and the original description of haley's character was "lucas' best friend who secretly harbors a crush on him". they must have changed their minds after seeing haley and nathan's chemistry or maybe it was bc they decided to do a triangle with brooke and peyton so adding haley to it would be too much.
The reason they didn't do the Lucas and Haley romance was because the producers told the actress that played Haley that she had no chemistry with the actor who played Lucas so it didn't work and the portrayers energy was so sibling-ness that it didn't happen and then the original actress that was going to play Lucas best friend whose name was Raegan was older than Hilarie who played the character of Peyton and she said that the original actress of Raegan was recast because they wanted Nathan and Haley to become a couple and the original actress just wasn't right for that because she had a really different chemistry so it wasn't going to work.
The reason for this show being too sexy was because The O.C. had just come out and so the writers for this show were getting notes from the networks saying that they had to turn up the sexy when the original tone was actually supposed to be a really sweet aw-shucks kind of town about a kid from the wrong side of the tracks.

@@SerenaSkybourne The beginning seasons drag a bit with the constant love triangles- but the older they get the better. I hope in one of your videos you note how bizarre it is that all 3 main character girls name their kids their own last names! That has always been so funny to me.
My favorite characters are Nathan, Brooke and Haley. Nathan and Brooke's character developments are so well done and Naley is still my most favorite TV couple❤
If you love the platonic, sweet friendship between Hayley and Lucas, then you should watch Veronica Mars!!! It's my favorite teen show OF ALL TIME, it has an a amazing opposite gender friendship, deals with serious social issues, and has the best father daughter relationship in history (imo)!!!

Here's an interesting fact the actress moira Kelly was actually pregnant during season 1 she plays Lucas mother I didn't know this until a few years ago child Michael Murray and the actress who played brooke were actually married for a time while they were one the show

One of my absolute favourite shows...
During my growing years this show moved me so much. I hated the later years but now rewatching i didn’t realize how much i needed it.
Broke my heart to learn how the creator was and now learning that when he wasn’t getting along with the cast members he would write them being shittier versions of themselves to embarrass them. So if you watch the show all the way you’ll see what I mean. He was so weird.
Aside from Mark the whole cast was so great such great people telling this beautiful story of brothers.

I feel like the hazing actually could've happened in the day, but some of the stuff in the later seasons are a little more outlandish. But the majority of the series is fairly grounded.
The portrayers of Nathan and Haley were surprised when they read the Season 1 finale script because they had no idea that their characters were going to get married because they had no idea why they had gotten red scripts and everyone else had white scripts until they read it.
Also keith might be a simp, but he was also there for lucas growing up. In his family he's the fuck up and dan was the golden child, so he has his issues from that dynamic. Cant hate his character though
I love Keith because he was always there for Karen and Lucas when Dan refused

If you haven’t seen Degrassi yet, you HAVE to. It was the blueprint for all of these teen shows. Even Beverly Hills 90210 was inspired by Degrassi. And yes, One Tree Hill’s school shooting episode was inspired by Degrassi’s school shooting episode. And Degrassi did it much better

So, after watching your OUAT videos, I had to watch this, because I also came late to One Tree Hill, and in point of fact, just finished binging the series for the first time about a week ago, so this video was very timely for me.
While I love Peyton, and know others who will defend her to the death, it's actually a very common opinion for people to dislike her, especially because people really loved Brooke and hating the cheating storyline.
You are 100% right that their aren't enough platonic male-female friendships, and it's a great aspect of the show. If you like that sort of things, I recommend the following:
Hart of Dixie (which many fans of Gilmore Girls enjoy, so it may be up your alley) the friendship between Zoe and Lavon is very brother/sister, as is the one between Wade and Lemon, and neither is ever hinted at being romantic (except for a brief fake-dating storyline with Wade and Lemon, but it's clear they are doing it because of external sources, and they are very uncomfortable with the whole thing).
Also, Once Upon A Time In Wonderland has a really great platonic female/male friendship in Will Scarlet and Alice. (I'm also hoping you'll check the show out so you can make a video about it!)

Haley's the best, don't worry. She is one of the best developed characters on the show. Season 2 did wonders to really flesh out her character. All of the characters go through ups and downs, but it's how they grow from that that matters. Out of all the characters she is the best at learning from situations, which makes sense since she's super smart. Also keep in mind she's been questioning her really rash and unlike her decision to get married (at 16!😱) since basically the next day (no thought went into that decision by either of them), which has just snowballed into a lot of other unlike her decisions. She's having an identity crisis of sorts and feels like she made a mistake.
Season 2 is rough for a lot of reasons, but stick with it. It sets up some really important stuff going forward. Season's 3 and 4 are top tier.

I was 10 when OTH was released (translated as The Scott Brothers - Les Frères Scott in my country) so I basically grew up with this show. It will always have a special place in my heart, although a couple of years ago I rewatched it and noticed all the body shaming and sexism, and thought, yeah that was clearly the early 2000s :')
Nevertheless, it is a great show, my favorite seasons being 1, 3 and 6.
When I was a kid I did not think much of Nathan but when I rewatched it I realized he was such an amazing character - his arc is done SO well. Brooke is also the BEST female character because she shows so much growth over the years. (I ended up not rewatching seasons 7 to 9 so I cannot remember if anything weird or disappointing happen with her, I'll keep remembering her as a great character).
On another note, I recommend Drama Queens Podcast, it is hosted by the three main actresses of the show as a way to tell their own stories and empower themselves. They cover one episode at a time so I think you would really like it :)

Aw man, I legit grew up watching One Tree Hill (and The OC) live and the way both of these shows (esp OTH) helped shape my music taste is *iconic*. But yeah, it's always wild to watch the show now (knowing everything we know about what went on behind the scenes) and see just how bad the slut shaming/fatphobia/depiction of addiction is. It's very much a show of its time.
I will say that, as others have said, you'll definitely fall in love w Brooke as the show goes on! Intrigued to see your thoughts on Rachel as well, lol (I love her though). The love triangle between Lucas/Brooke/Peyton is just exhausting after a while, I always thought they dragged it out too long.
I also hated Nathan in the beginning but he ended up being my favorite character in the show! Naley is one of my top OTPs! And I love Brooke!
I think most of the characters go through a phase where you don't like them as much or wish they were being better / being better written. The writers were really pulling things out of a hat and repeating scenarios as the show continued. I swear there's a car crash in every season and now whenever I'm watching a show and characters are in a car I'm like, omg they're going to crash!
Brooke was added for comedic relief because the show didn't have enough humor.
During the filming of Season 1 Chad and the actress that played Brooke were dating and then in the middle of filming Season 2 they got married but it didn't last long because by the time filming for Season 3 started they were broken up and going through a divorce which had started after her petition for an annulment citing fraud was denied and so their divorce wasn't finalized until the middle of filming Season 4.
Oh girl the other seasons definitely top season 1 it gets better chile

It's because they were all brave enough, first, to allowing themselves love each other despite their differences and second to find the best of them. Regardless opinion of everyone else...
At that age no one has the guts to do that or the experience to think it through. In a way Nathan and Haley are the kind of people that we wish to be...at that time or in our early 20's
growing up is hurt.... realizing that we damage and push away the persons who really loved us. I almost cry when I see Haley the way she sees Nathan when they are starting dating...... it's heart breaking...cuz it made think how easy life seems to be when you are LOVED

I just found all seasons on Prime.. its just a conformt show for me. I love it so much.
This show is one of those that is so inidictive of the culture of time it was filmed. Between dealing with the relationships and real lives of the characters, trying to break the mold of other teen dramas of the time, and the straight up terrible sexism of the director, its all super apparent now when i go back for a rewatch.
YESS!! Keith and Peyton are deeply annoying, especially in season 1. They teeter the line of being pathetic honestly. Keith dreams of being Karen’s savior and Peyton loves when Lucas saves her ugh (they both get better… but they never become favs to ME)
I dont think Peyton want to be save by Lucas, She want him since day one, but she is too afraid of losing him, so she is pushing him away. I saw a video, about peyton only wanted Lucas when she is with someone else, because she is not her to loose because he is with someone else. But when she is with him, she could loose him, because they are together.

Season 1 was a great Season of One Tree Hill I can't wait for you to talk about all the rest of the seasons I will say the series changes alot later on its awesome I love it it feels like 2 or 3 different shows because of they skip 4 years ahead after Season 4 going into season 5 and it changes again a few more times after Season 6 and going into seasons 7, 8,and 9

heres the thing with deb. she is married to a horrible man. and even though at some point he may not have been horrible, dan and deb fell in love, so its not a stretch to believe that she has some horrible parts to her personality. youll see that as her relationship with dan has a lot to do with her character arc.

I watched OTH as it was airing and it's one of my favorite teen shows. I didn't like Peyton either and as the show progresses I liked her even less. My favorite season is 3, so we'll see what you think of that season when you get there.

Im on s8 right now and I have to say that by the time Lucas and Peyton left the show I did not like either of them.I was fine if not annoyed by them at the beggining but they really lost me after the time jump in s5.My favorite character is Brooke Davis so that may be part of the problem,neither deserved my girl😂

so i started watching this for the first time a few months ago. and my opinions of the characters change so much. i truly believe you see, as it goes on, that lucas has this insane hero complex where he has to save peyton to flatter himself as 'the good guy'. when you see the lindsey plotline later on, you can see how entitled he feels he is over women. like nobody could possibly turn down lucas scott because he is, after all, the 'good guy'. he honestly ends up being my least favourite character. repeatedly calling women 'psychos'. just, no.
brooke, however, ends up becoming amazing in my opinion. i am a brooke stan forever.
nathan, great, love him. hailey, she grates on me as time goes on.

I totally get you I've rewatched this a few times and I think I might be due for another rewatch but Peyton was soooo irrating LOL like even in the later seasons to me personally shes still annoying, I think she has her moments where I enjoy her character though. I think its kinda funny though because Lucas is the main character but he's also annoying LMFAOO, but I love Haley shes def so underrated hopefully you'll warm up to Brooke later on because her character development
