#statusquo Rick Parfitt Status Quo interview - Critics of Quo 'Three Chord Wonders' @statusquocom @StatusQuoAsItWas #thesmallfaces @SmallFacesofficial
In this interview Rick has shown that he was an intelligent and articulate person. It was great to hear him say what I've always believed. He said what I've been telling people for decades. Though anybody that knows anything about music will know that QUO played a lot more than 3 chords.
Status Quo in their pomp were one of the all time great rock 'n' roll bands. Rock 'n' roll is largely based on a simple 3 chord 12 bar progression which has served music well from the days of WC Handy in the early 20th century. It was good enough starting point for BB King, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Carl Perkins, early Beatles, and countless other artists and bands in many genres. However, the "all sounds the same" accusation is a bit of a myth that has attached to Quo. Only about half the songs on their own hits album "12 Gold Bars" are actually 12 bar blues. Many of their songs have 5 or more chords in them. Any chord can be played in different inversions and spacings. Mainly, though, chord structure is only one small part of music. Music is about rhythm, timing, harmony, lyrics, phrasing, contrast, dynamics... and much more. There are good bands out there who play whole songs with one chord. It's so easy to sneer at Status Quo, but most of the people who criticise them probably have no clear idea what a chord or a bar is. They did what they did better than anyone else, and brought joy to millions.
Quo were and are a total vibe. The establishment hates a y musicians who can consistently reach and effect people in a positive way. Only one Quo, like so many other class acts, they stood alone.
Many great rock and roll songs and blues songs have only three or four chords what does it matter. Quo were unique created great songs and energy. My album favourite was piledriver. So many songs were brilliant
Good on ya Rick. What he said about the critics was a very PUNK attitude. John Lydon of Sex Pistols said they liked Status Quo because of their attitude. Pistols liked QUO's music as well.
They should have ignored the critics in the early days and just got heavier and heavier... Re people thinking they could copy quo...back in the day some prof in uni somewhere took the tracks apart and concluded that the music was far more complex and structured than it appeared. Every band has its 'sound' Sabbath sound the same, Zeppelin, the Stones, The Sweet etc, so effin what!
Damned if you do and Damned if you do!!! Yes, I meant what I typed above. I love "Big Fat Mama" style QUO songs and despise crap like " Marguerita Time" & "Rock n Roll" ballad rubbish.
A lot of guitar players do not have the stamina to play the chords that Rick put behind the songs. You got to stretch your little finger Chuck Berry chords. Not a lot of guitar players can do it good and fast
Rick parfitt seem a lovely guy and friendly.. him alan lancaster were the Quo now they are both playing with a new band in the big sky . Bon scott leader . Malcolm young on guitar.. drums . Keith moon. How good would that be .or phil animal Taylor on drums
They should be proud of their recognizable 1 in a million sound
No one sounds like Quo simply awesome band 3 chords my arse ! These guys can bloody play Rick was the best 🎸🎸🎸👍

Rick is such a nice personality. Obviously hurt by the critics, but loved by the fans. The best rhythm guitarist is all time.
"It's not about how many chords you play, it's how you play them".
I only managed to see Quo once down here in Sydney. Full on kick-arse rock n roll!! I’ll never forget that show! Miss you Rick Parfitt 🎸❤️
"40 years on 3 chords.... or 3 years on ..... " Francis Rossi said once, when picking up yet another music award.
Always loved Rick
People always talk about the chords but forget the great lead parts and vocal structures.
Rick was a captivating personality.
Weather you love or hate Quo they are a British institution.Made some outstanding music through the years
Whether not Weather.

Saw them around 15 times in 4 different countries. Never had a bad night
I find Rick a lot more interesting to listen to than Rossi in interviews seems to be more open and honest IMO
because if Rossi speaks the truth, the "fans" cry like babies and claim he's the devil.
@@stevenlornie1261 lol, wtf where did that come from !
It's how they embellished the 3 chords and presented them. Legends.!
I miss you Ricky.
No more Quo live... ever, at least for me.
Sad. ❤❤❤
your loss. The last tour was fantastic.
What the Quo did, they did magnificently.
He’s spot on. Trying to recreate that Quo sound is harder than you think.
Going LOUD with a telecaster only gets you part of the way there
Miss you Rick😢😢😢
3 Chord Bands are a Triumvirate of Musical Legends

When Tony Visconti says you only need 3 chords you have to listen. Actually there was always a jealousy of Quo.
Burst 3 chords ever…..❤️😀👍
Ricky Nelson released a song called "garden party " based on playing the tunes he liked, worth a listen on Alexa😊
He totally right might be 3 chords but now that Rick gone quo doesn't sound like quo anymore so it can't be that easy
Good on ya Rick.

U2 are the 3 chord wonders…. But to be honest, I’ve never heard of Status Quo. and I’m a music expert. I’m 55yo and never heard of these guys. 😂
Haha, some “Music Expert”. You must be a Yank as Quo were/are massive in Europe. Over 50 years of hits.
They toured in the States in the 70's with ZZ Top, Aerosmith etc.
