I run slot machine 17.5 in a 6.4 buggy. It is a team spec and came out of the box timed at52.2 and showed 5.34 amps and 3223 kv. It runs very very hot! I have messed with gearing and timing to no end. I won't purchase another one.
That seems odd. I would say to drop the timing to 46-48 degrees on a 17.5T and then gear up or down. But seems you are done with it. Can you send it back for a replacement? If you are done with the Slot Machine, consider the Fantom Helix. I am running the 17.5T in TC and works great. Helix 17.5T czcams.com/video/GYHzvG9SkDE/video.html Or... I talk about the Hobbywing and Fantom. czcams.com/video/M75WPEuHgOw/video.html
@@telecomandorc I'm not completely done with it I've got to practice day tomorrow and I want to keep messing with it and I'm going to race it again this next weekend. I've actually kicked the timing all the way down to probably 40° and I've got it geared at 29 on the pinion and 75 on the spur gear and it seems to run okay like that it just seems like it should be faster so I'm going to gear it down another tooth and I'm going to kick the timing back up and see what happens. It's just kind of strange because people on the internet say that this thing should be geared two to four teeth higher than you would normally run any other motor and I just had just went up two teeth when I first ran it the thing hit 200°+ .
@@kevinwest1607 I am with you. Issue with some internet info is it is usually not specific as to timing+gearing+weight of vehicle. We never get them all.
@@telecomandorc I think I have figured it out! I went down two more teeth on the pinion and ended up with the timing right about where it was out of the box,and bingo it was running really strong today. So it's geared lower than my Maclan I was running and it is a MUCH faster motor by far. Matter of fact one of the guys was asking if we were running boost in it lol. Finished in 3rd behind two guys running mod motors. Love your content by the way,so please keep up the good work.👍
@@kevinwest1607 Awesome. That is always a big compliment when someone asks if you have tricks up your sleeve by it is just tuning done right. Well done. Let me know how you place next time.
I couldn't agree more. I've had nothing but problems with my slot machine 21.5. Bad bearings then sensor board. All in under a battery pack. Customer service is almost as disappointing as the motor.
I am running them both currently. The HW in my TC and SM in my USGT (open motor here). I will run them again tomorrow for the next series race. But I am leaning towards the HW because it is just better craftsmanship. They seem to be very close. Although, a buddy and I have both had Trinity rotors come apart in our previous Xfactors and SM uses the same rotors. I have not had the HW G4 long enough to see any failures at this time.
Cool video! Looks super cool this motor.
Thank you.
In the UK all the fastest guys run the Trinity X Factor 13.5 Revtech and no issues.
Curious. Are they mostly indoor carpet? Do they run stock rotors? I run asphalt. I wish I had an indoor carpet track near here.
Stock rotors on carpet and they are very fast.

It’s been a few months. What’s your take on the two now? HW vs slot machine?
They are very similar. The HW is easier to set the timing. I prefer the HW based on how it is built.

2.92 and 3.28 fdrs for your 21.5's.. What fdr would you use for a 17.5? Thank you for the great information!
3.75 and go from there
Have you ran the Hobbywing and Slot Machine in your car? How do they compare (in car).?

I am preferring the HW. The HW has a lower FDR but similar top speed with better punch than the SM.
