Aw what a lovely surprise to come across this video this morning. It being St Andrew's day I was on a "proud to be scottish" youtube trawl, and searched jimmy shand randomly as this was music I was brought up around as a child at my grandparents and being taken to dances like these. It was shock but absolutely amazing to see my gran and grandy dancing in this, I didnt even know it existed. My grandy died suddenly in 1996 when I was I was only 17, seeing him in being the big friendly sociable gentleman i remember him being was just magic, I've not stopped smiling all morning I'm so happy to have found this and defo need to buy the DVD as we lost my gran in 2010, these memories become even more cherished once the people we love pass on. So many familiar faces not just family on these vids, I still cant believe I am only finding them now and cant wait to browse through and watch some more 😍😍

Compliments to him? Don't think so,..he would say,...sorry it was my father!

@@brucecollins4729 I received this reply in email and had to come to CZcams to find out what it was about. My response was only to point out that we Scots have a variety of dance temps from Scottish Waltz to Strathsapey, Jig, reel, Hornpipe and the various Highland tempos. The Virginia reel is to an extent based on American tunes and style but is in reel timeb(4/4). I have been involved in Scottish dance since childhood, having grown up only 4 miles from Jimmy Shand (Senior), and taught it for years and particularly in the West/Hebrides we are very aware of the links with Irish and Cape Breton music.
