That's just shattered my world where the magic pixies make these things work.
Excellent content, thanks for sharing! You're right, I had no idea that you repair the products you sell. Very cool!
Thanks, Jacob! We have a return center, and if they can swap a part and get something working like new they'll offer it for sale in our Outlet, warranty included. We've got a cool video about our open box/refurb/scratch & dent stock (shot at the same place as the TV disassembly): czcams.com/video/ZIc6m_SpIxk/video.html
Amazing! I always wondered what was in there. :) *Thank you* for this video.
thank you for this super informative dissection
Wonderful video, learned a lot!
Thank you Crutchfield, very interesting disassembly analysis for Sony XBR65X900F.I 'm waiting for another like this, keep up .
You're welcome! We intend to!
@@crutchfield The plastics should have been bit thicker..... The build quality is flimsy. Why don't Sony use full aluminium back cover, instead of el cheapo plastic?
@@crutchfield This tv needed all aluminium build, like the one macbooks have.
@@Subhasis44597 most TV's today are built that exact same way, actually. It's done to reduce the weight of the units and also the overall cost. There's really no reason to use metal where far lighter (and far less expensive) plastic will suffice.
@@michaelbeckerman7532 But the build quality is worse with plastic.
Thank you for a great video. Very informative and impeccably done. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! Glad it helped
You guys are the man!
A shame you didn't keep going and show us the backlights, which is why I chose to watch your video in the first place.
Thanks for a great video with solid content. This is a breath of fresh air compared to a majority of tech videos that lack content and ride on their gimmicks, background music, video effects.
Thanks, Steve! If you need anything further, please let us know.
This is so satisfying. 🥰
Back in 93 i took a older TV to a repair shop to get it fixed. Turned out the repair was gonna cost more than the TV was worth so the shop offered it as a trade in for another one at a decent price, so i went for it. Got to talking with the guy and he stated in less than ten years all TV's will eventually go to LCD's and CRT's will end production soon after. That guy knew the future of TV's, and it wasn't a prediction. He had insider knowledge that they had planned this decades ago.
Sounds like you chose the right shop! A lot has changed in TVs since 1993 for sure! Can you think of anything you miss about your older CRT models?
@@crutchfield only thing I miss about them is the memories, outside of that I miss nothing. I wouldn't trade any of my LCD TV's or my monitors for a CRT. And the worst part is I can't give any away or legally discard any. There's no place around here that will even take them for recycling without driving too far to get there. All they're doing now is taking up space. Got a deep holler I know of and I'm tempted to toss em' off in it... Lol... and one is a 32"... hurt my back some one time lifting it by myself... I actually despise CRT's now.
Most of us can relate to those memories and struggling with their hefty weight! 😁 Good luck with your recycling.
Great video!!! Keep doing these. So many questions on smart tvs. Please do repairable vs not repairable tv issues video.

We recommend letting an authorized repair technician check and repair it. Sony support should be able to help you get in touch with a repair tech local to your area.
Absolutely amazing.
Good Lord
So if I have an internal crack showing, could it be the plastic diffuser or is it still the main screen? Haven't tried to open it yet. Any help would be appreciated. Ty 🙏
Very interesting...thank you.
What is the cause of vertical banding (dse) in these FALD sets?
thanks ,do you know how to remove the panel of sony xbrx900h?
This is such a good content! Thank you.
Want to know, would it be possible to just change the TV panel module (black colour thin layer) when the backlight of the TV is working and the only problem with the TV is no picture.
There could be a few different parts causing that issue and recommend arranging for an authorized repair tech to check it
This tv needed all aluminium build, like the one macbooks have.
Great video. I was told my tcon board needs replacing. I saw a few different models of my brand use the same board with the same part number. Does it mean I can use board from a different model as long as the part numbers are the same?
Sorry! We don't have specifics on replacement boards. Your best bet would be to check for repair or replacement via the manufacturer directly.
Hi Crutchfield,
Awesome video! Could you please describe to me what those little gold slips are at 6:39 of the video when taking apart the screen? Are those gold bits stickers or something that are located at the bottom of the led screen? Thanks
Looks like they're thin plastic tabs holding the wiring, which controls the transistors within the screen.
Is the lcd layer very expensive? My lcd layer has a mark like a ball in the mid bottom of it and showed something like a watermark. Is it worthed to fix my sony kdl -65 tv?
Great video at least.
I was looking up how flatscreen TVs are spying on us and this came up lol
Wow what a great video. What kind of portable hand drill is he using to remove the screws?
Hey George. Unfortunately I don't have info on what the model of the drill was, and it's been replaced since the video was made.
This helped me decide that I will be buying a new TV rather than attempting to replace the LEDs.
Good plan, Dustin! If you'd like help choosing, please let us know.
Well I replaced the Led of my TV for a cheap price since Led for old TV are cheap nowadays
Interesting to see inside. What takes longer though, assembling the TV in the first place or taking it apart?
That's a good question! We do not 100% know as we do not have access to the factory. However, It is most likely that an assembly line style building process is used so the time from start to finish would be greater than it took us to disassemble this TV.
Very good video. My display was turning on and off with sound on, technician said that the display is shorting and tv is going under protection mode. He told me to get the display changed. Do i have to change my display in this case?
We cannot diagnose your issue from here, but if a technician troubleshot your issue and advised you to get the display changed it sounds like a good idea. If you are having issues and do not repair, a new TV is the next best option.
How would I be able to clean out dust that has settled inside the tv. I tried to vacuum where the venting is but the dust is not getting sucked out.
We have not studied the process of cleaning the inside of a TV, but there are a few web sites, including USA Today, that recommend using a can of compressed air to clean the inside of a TV
Hello great video😍 i have a question. I see yellow stain, right and left sides of my LCD TV which is visible in the white picture. Tv is more than 15 years old. What's the problem and will it get worse in the near future?
If the panel is properly working, that could be burn-in image retention on the screen. This is unlikely to get worse or spread to other parts of the screen. If it is an issue being caused by a malfunction in the panel or processors, then it is likely that the stain will spread or get worse.
@@crutchfield thank you for the answer
hi can the led's be used for something else and what actual voltage are they, by way great vid
Hi Garry, we haven't tried it; but there are several posts online about repurposing the backlights. While it would vary per TV, most of them would be rated at only a couple volts.
interesante
Wow
I'm not sure if that tv had it, but where are the voice listening devices in the tv? I am wondering if it's something that I can remove when I buy a new tv? Have you done this before and tried to power it on with that hardware removed? For example, if the tv's operating system is trying to load Alexa, Google Assistant, or Siri, but the hardware was removed, what is the OS's response and will the tv still function without it?
We do not get information about the programming and any responses that my be written in the code for when that gear has been removed. Also we do not research the TV's to gain that knowledge or perform tests on how they operate after the removal of the gear. However we do know that there have been times when the microphone used to pick up the voice commands is in the remote. If you get a model like that, it is very likely that you would not need to open the TV to remove the listening devices
I was wondering if the color filter is removable? I want to pass UV light through the panel
We do not recommend taking part or modifying any TV.
I kinda broke my Samsung Q60t removing the polarizing film thinking its a protection layer. Do you think its possible to just simply install another layer as opposed to buying a new tv?
Hmm, you may want to contact Samsung about that!
I was hoping you could help me figure out what I’ll need for my setup
I have 2 soundqubed hds2 dvc 4ohm 600w rms and a hifonics Brutus 2000w amp in a prefab ported box I want to get a q bomb box from Walmart for $100 and install them in a 1995 Tahoe, do you think I’ll need an extra battery or big three? If so can you suggest we’re I could buy everything, I’m also in need of single din radio suggestions as well as wiring kits? Any help would be appreciated
It's always best to do the big 3 upgrade with an amp running this amount of watts. An extra battery will be helpful as well, but not 100% required. This will depend on your listening preferences. We sell all this gear along with radios and the gear to install them into your Tahoe. Is there any way i could add active cooling fan inside? TV lifespan nowadays is getting shorter.

He remind me Bob Villa when he said we.
Hi, Any idea what that tin glass is called? also where can i get television parts like that one on an Lg LC430EGE-FHM1 model: 43uf680v
We think you are referring to the part removed about 7:00 into the video. That is the glass panel with the transistors that control the image. We are not sure if there is a more appropriate term to use with the various manufacturers, but the above discerption should work
What is the plastic parts calld after u took of the screen
If you are asking about the white sheet that was left after the LCD panel was removed, it is a diffuser layer.
Very interesting! I was wondering if it is possible to get rid off the wifi/bluetooth board and antenna? Would the tv still work? s the remote Bluetooth or IR?
most definitely will. disconnect it and see :)
@@kookoochoo1536 yes, i got rid off the antenas and board a few months ago, tv still works fine. Thanks
I got a problem on my TV power on still can see the indicator light but blank screen. Likely what is the cause?

Great video! I wanted to ask: How tough is that front panel on one of these TV's? My cat likes to occasionally bat at the screen when he climbs up on the TV stand. Also, while I was getting ready to put the feet on my new Sony 4K TV, he was "nice" enough to walk across part of the screen. It still had the protective plastic on it, but still...
We have not seen any details on how much force is needed to scratch it or cause other harm. I would be worried about the nails causing damage more so that I would a cat pad part of the paw.
@@crutchfield Thank you for the reply! His claws were in, and the protective sleeve they have was still over the TV. I have carefully looked at the screen, and see no defects.
Dont let ANYTHING Touch your TV screen, you will be sorry. lol
How do you get the extra charge out of the power board so you can safely mess with it
This video was made to just give a little insight to what's going on behind the panel of your TV.
We do not offer technical support, advice, or information for DIY TV repair.
You may want to reach out to the manufacturer of your television if you wish to proceed with your project.
Can change the ram of the tv with a bigger ram ?
Possibly. We offer no kits or guides for that type of upgrade.
What would make a TV stop receiving a signal from an indoor antenna. Everything else works except it says no signal when it's set on TV
Hi David, sounds like it could be the tuner, antenna, or wiring. Your best bet would be to check/test each of those independently to narrow down the issue.
How do you attach the screen back on? (The glass screen that makes up the display) Mine is peeling off and im using tape to keep it attached.
Your best bet is to check with the manufacturer regarding repair. What brand is your TV?
@@crutchfield it's a Samsung tv a series 8

Hi, thank you for the well elaborated teardown of the TV world. I have a question relating to smart tvs, do these like say LG 43 Inches TVs share the same screen with another LG 43 Inches TV but a different model?
Sometimes, the same panel is used in a few different model TV's and its the processors that are different. But sometimes, the panels are also different. The only way to know if the same panel is used in both models is to check them. Which LG models are you referring to?
@@crutchfield My model is LG 43UJ634V and the one I intend to take the screen is an LG 43 Inches UHD4K resolution the same as mine.
We don't have access to the LG 43UJ634V model to research it and gather information on it. We were able to see on LG's website that it is also a UHD4K TV so there is a good chance it uses the same panel as the other model you described. That being said, we recommend contacting LG's support to check this and if the other panel will work
@@crutchfield I contacted the LG support team several times but they don't want to disclose such information or advise to me. From LG "Hi Ray, this is not a service we offer nor is it one we can advise. Apologies. We can offer you a repair however."

It's hard to say! We don't carry the Roku TV's but it's likely very similar!
What’s the yellow bits on the power board
Hi Cammy. I checked with a couple of people internally and it seems the yellow is likely a Mylar tape wrapped around various transformers. Often this is used to hold them together during production.

@@crutchfield the TV is dead completely. Don't know what to do😔
Now I know why I see bright orbs all over my screen, the problem seems to be way in the back of the chassis. I don't know why that happens but by what you demonstrated, looks like it might be an expensive repair. Would it be better to just buy another TV than try to repair the LED light arrays?
This is always a tough question as there is no cut and dry answer to it. We recommend that you first check with the TV manufacturer about the likelihood that a repair can be done and possible repair costs on your current TV. If the TV still has warranty, the we recommend getting it repaired. If not and the cost is close to the price of a new TV, then it may not be worth getting repaired.
i know this is a year late, but should this ever happen in the future, it's something to think about. Way at the end where you saw the LEDs on the back chassis, the glue that holds the lets say plastic cap on the LEDs is often pretty poor and will fail over time. This causes bright orbs in the screen because the light isn't diffused properly anymore. An easy way to check if this is the case is to turn the TV on it's side, or upside down. If you hear what seems to be legos rolling around inside the TV, theres your problem. This can be fixed by simply adding new glue, but obviously needs to be done by someone who knows how to take a TV apart. I've had a couple of the Samsung curved tv's where this was the case, people almost threw out a 1500-2000 dollar TV because of a (....add price of a good, clear transparent contact glue lol...) dollar problem.

Someone is offering me a free non-working big flat screen TV and I’m wondering if I could salvage these kinds of parts from it either on my own or through a local tv repair shop
There is not a separate polarizing film. Anything like that would be built into the glass sandwich layer (the first big sheet to come off the TV) and cannot be separated. However, you might enjoy getting your hands on the diffuser layers from a TV panel

Hi, this may be a silly question, but how do TVs actually produce their graphics and render an image? Do they have GPUs or video processors inside them, or is the graphics handled by the CPU on the motherboard? Thank you.
There is a main processing chip that handles most functions for the TV - including the image creation. For example with Sony it is their X1 chip, which you can find out more about here: electronics.sony.com/bravia-x1-processor
@@crutchfield Thank you. Does the scaler chip/board do any image processing at all?
That should be the chip used if the TV is not getting an image that is the same resolution as its native display. It would only provide processing when the incoming video's resolution is lower than the TV's.
