I'm so glad you guys are checking this out. It's one of the best things Marvel has made, period. Calvin needs to see the original show after this. Also, so glad they finally put some respect on Cyclops' name. He was a total badass in this. And Ray Chase does the former VA so much justice. RIP Norm Spencer.

So, not sure if they're aware but it's called X-Men 97 because the original came out in 92 and this was made as the 6th season as if it came out in 1997. Therefore X-Men 97

My first concern with this was "oh with Marvel's recent track record, it won't be good." then that concern turned into "oh well they'll never keep this momentum going." and now it's become "it's so good I don't want this to end and nothing will come close to this."
Right? Just take the 200 million that they are gonna pump into the live action X-Men film and put it towards 3 more seasons of this, all with the same creative team.
God give me more of swashbuckling Kurt. I'll do ANYTHING. "No, my friend. Nine!" God, they knew to give the best lines to the elf. Haven't fangirled this hard over him since high school 😅
@@TheRibottoStudios Honestly, as a guy who was first exposed to the X-Men fully by watching the movies, I did not know Nightcrawler was THIS cool. And Cyclops? This series made me understand why people hated X-Men 3 and were disappointed with the X-Men movies.
@crimsonghoul8983 oh yeah nah Kurt is just dope asf. The movies were how I was introduced to X Men too. And seeing Kurt in the 2nd film made me super intrigued so I did some digging. I love the cartoons he's in; wolverine and the x men. X Men Evolution he's great in those. Some comics are ehhhh but in most he's just like this; an all around great guy. And GOD I love the bamf sound here. And the angles they give him during that fight scene with Logan?

When they were falling, Morph turned into Archangel I think. He was in the og in the apocalypse arc. Yeah he had regular wings that got turned into metal

I'm a 46 year old woman who grew up on the original series. My heart gets so full when I hear the theme song. I am ABSOLUTELY LOVING the new '97 series. It's the best thing that's happened. I will drop everything to watch the new episode when it's out. I'm so happy I cry. 😂😂😂
jean grey herself is an omega lvl threat, phoenix just heightens her abilities, making her even more powerful lol.
The Phoenix just makes her a cosmic level threat.
Cyclops using his optic blasts to propel himself around is such a Monty Oum move, I'm here for it.

They incorporated moves from the fighting games into this. The traverse move is from there.
@@bodycount9501 its actually also from comics, there is a comic panel where Cyclops is thinking he has to carefully calculate the power of his optic blast or else he will immediately receive a upthrust
What I love about this series beyond the writing, characters, action, etc. is that it respectfully fits comic stories together without feeling rushed. That respect for the source material of the original series and the comics makes this show work.
eh, some storylines are definitely feel rushed. love the show, but it’s certainly moves too quickly

I absolutely love this serious but if I had to make a complaint, it would be that it feels a bit too fast paced. It would be nice to have a little more breathing room between some story lines, but idk if it would work or feel the same way. For example, if they made these episodes 40ish minutes instead, I feel like it would benefit some of the stories to flesh things out more. Of course that adds on to the budget and time to make these, so maybe it's for the best they don't

For me it made sense that Storm showed up by the end of the battle against the zombi sentinels. In the original show she was usually flying low and in the frontlines so she very often got taken out of fights with a blast. They even reused the animation of her falling down so many times it was frustrating. It happened every time except when it was a Storm centric episode. The 2 most powerful and only omegas of the team, Storm and Jean, were always taken out the same way. Jean would faint and Storm would get grounded with a blast and then the third more powerful, Rogue, would have to catch Storm. Actually now I hope they do that just one time for the nostalgia.
Angel was mutilated by Harpoon during the Mutant Massacre. His wings were destroyed. Apocalypse turned him into Archangel and made him one of his Horsemen. As shown in the Fox movies. His new wings were "feathered" with regenerating metal blades he could shoot out as weapons.
Morph became Archangel to fly down from the X-Jet.
Mutilated by Blockbuster/ nailed to the wall by Harpoon and saved by Thor. One of my favorite story arcs
This is ture in the comics, but it's a little different in the show. In the original 90s show, Angel wanted his mutation cured and funded Dr. Adler's mutant cure. However, Adler had been killed and replaced by Mystique, who worked for Apocalypse, so the "cure" actually brainwashed Angel and turned him into Archangel
Morph was in the first episode of X Men 92, presumed killed by the sentinels, then later used by Sinister
There will be plenty of questions and mysteries in this show, but for me, the biggest one is Why the hell do they bother with the ''skip intro'' button.. Who in their right mind will press that????? You'd miss the most EPIC theme tune, and miss the various changes and hints to future episodes. Hold on gang, you are in for one hell of a ride.
That “shooting balls from his body” thing was a reference of a mutant name Goldballs who is capable of shooting gold balls from his body. Later on he discovered that those balls were actually infertile eggs, changing his name to Eggs.
Easily one of the best projects Marvel has ever made. So glad you guys are checking it out

He was added to the show to die but was so popular they made a whole season arc of Wolverine looking for him and bringing him back. The popularity in the show also brought him back in the comics.
Scott waited until he know the others have a save landing and then he's landing in the coolest possible way.

This is the best-written marvel property since Endgame. And the voice cast is, for me, on a par with Invincible. Every single one of them absolutely kills it, can't wait for you to experience it all!

Yeah I think many people say Endgame because it was the end of that whole arc but they really mean Infinity War which was better written ofc.

X-Men 97 is Peak Marvel, and the latest episodes have been absolutely phenomenal! Actually, the whole show has been absolutely amazing!
i graduated highschool in 92 just when this started airing , used to come home from work just to watch this series, bowl of cereal and sit with my 2 sisters ...watched every episode for years , till it finished so glad they continued things.. i remember in 98 i bought a complete series copyed directly to vhs from tv off ebay because it wasnt on vhs complete fun memories crazy to think i turn 50 in a few days dont feel a day over 25
the fact that they made Magneto infinitely hotter is reason enough to love this series almost immediately.
all jokes aside, this series is legitimately the best X-Men content that has ever existed in any form of media, and I don't use those words lightly. I'm so excited to see this reaction from someone like Calvin, who has never seen the original animated series. it's times like these that I'm so glad that I'm a patron! 🤩

Somebody has probably Said this already, but Just in case:
Morph was created for the original show. He apears in the first episodes, but is "killed" by the sentinels.
In a later Season he returns as a villain working for Mr Sinister, who saves him from the sentinels. He eventually redeem himself.
Angel became Archangel when he was trasnformed by Apocalypse to become one of the Four Horseman. Thats when he got the metal wings.
Morph has been around since the 60s. Their name was originally Changeling but it was changed to Morph for the show because DC also had a Changeling aka Beast Boy.
No, he is based on a comic character called Changeling.

this is very much a continuation of the old series, if you havent seen that go back and watch it cause this wont have the desired effect, a lot of stuff is directly referenced and built upon

Morph was a recurring character in the original show. They were "killed" off early on but returned for a few arcs later on.
Bishop appeared later on in a major arc involving the future and what happened when the Sentinals won.
Morph turned into archangel during the falling scene.

FINALLY you guys are watching Xmen, and Im glad im in the same boat as Calvin in not having watched Xmen '92. Also, to those caught up to recent episodes, it was only on this reaction that I recognized the drawing and music in Jean's vision.....
So much good foreshadowing in this, it's worth a rewatch for sure.

Just in case you all see this and so you know, Emma Frost doesn't actually have any cold related abilities like her name suggests. Her mutation makes her a telepath, like Jean and Charles.
also, Jean is an omega level telepath (making her have more potential than Charles, but he's way better at using his) though she is not an omega level telekinetic.
@@paratil2566they supposedly have changed that back again. She is both an Omega telepath and Omega telekinetic. I believe only Hickman tried to say she was only an Omega telepath. Now that he is gone she is back to omega for both.
JUST finished binge-watching the original cartoon for the first time to prepare for this. Already, the first episode is a _huge_ step up from the original, but it was cool bringing back the old pieces. It truly feels like there was hardly any time gap.
Cyclops redefined the superhero landing.
Cyclops optic blasts are force blasts. Concussive force (kinda like the mother of all fire hoses without the wet). It has the ability to punch through a mountain.
I am already anxious for them to see episode 5

I checked this out after episode 9 dropped and I’m an OG fan from the original show. I’m 33 and I never skip the intro. This show is why I love the X-Men, I remember seeing reruns on the TV. I will forever say that this show is why I love Marvel and the X-Men. Rogue and Gambit will alway be my favourites because of this!
24:19 Gambit’s power is kinetic energy, so when Wolverine made contact with the sentinel it was transferred, which was sort of like micro explosions along the path of his claws, aided by Wolverine’s own momentum.

Both of you are right! Cyclops originally had portals in front of his eyes that lead to the punch dimension, a dimension of pure kinetic energy. This is why it was always dumb when he would, say, light a cigarette with his eye beams. Recently though, they retconned it to be that he absorbs solar energy. Which is dumb, because he's used them in space, throughout the night, etc.
The cigarette thing would make sense if he has enough control of the beam (friction) and I think the idea was he constantly absorbs cosmic energy (like his brother Havok) whether his eyes are portals or not.
