Be nice to know, officially if all the historic efforts of flood prevention are working! If not, why not and what is the next step towards a solution by those responsible.
we're on the tail end of a storm, too, don't forget. Lots of places have been flooded this week. (We sure dodged that bullet with the Dave Myers rideout on Sunday, although I was fighting hard headwinds heading back over the Humber bridge and all the way back to Nottingham!)
You always tend to get a few ass holes that will drive as fast as they can through puddles, I have seen a few come unstuck with that one😎 Gaz Yorkshire.
Wow. I saw the tide was pretty high from my flat on Windsor Terrace, but didn't realise it was THAT high! Almost makes me wish I'd braved the rain and wind for a splodge into town. Almost...!
Not good but have seen it worse when I was in my teens many years ago. Remember the Miss Waters’s actually sweeping water out of their house in a yard off Baxtergate.
@@thewhitbyphotographer i remember very well drinking in the old rooms pub in weymouth watching the the tide coming up then the tide came up through the drains we were wearing our wellies but we kept drinking with the tide around our feet and later helped the landlord mop out and carried on drinking 🤣🤣🤣
Partially correct. But missing some info. The tide in the Whitby tide book was a high of 5.9M. A rough estimation would suggest there is a good 0.5m more water than that. Low pressure and a westerly wind play a huge part in the extra water.
Extra high spring tides ,linked to the previous days sun /moon eclipse. Combined with the tail end of storm Kathleen and storm surge!! As above ,as below....😊
That’s not a flood! When houses are submerged, livestock have to swim to high ground, & you must use a dinghy to get down the main road, then it’s a flood. 🇦🇺
The tides have nothing to do with climate change. With the sun and the moon pretty much in the same space in the sky (there was an eclipse, remember), their combined gravity will create higher tides. The high tides don’t help with river flooding from all the wet weather we’ve been having as the water has no where to go until the tide goes out again
You're correct to point out it was a spring tide. We get these every month. Yesterdays tide in The Whitby area was a predicted high of 5.9 which is nothing out of the ordinary, in fact we had significantly higher tides in Feb and March that didnt cause any flooding at all. So why was yesterday different ?? What came was closer to 6.5 m - 7.0m, so How are you accounting for the half meter or more of extra water if your saying its just a normal spring tide ?? The short answer is it was a small but not insignificant Tidal Surge. If you look into Tidal surges they are very much caused by weather systems, and specifically low pressure areas over the water.
@@thewhitbyphotographer wasn’t aware of the tidal surge, not surprising with the current influx of Atlantic storms this month. Some will coincide with spring tides, some not. At least not as devastating as the surge of 1953 in Essex.

Climate change is a normal cycle, there is no climate crisis. Most of the rain we’ve had all winter and spring is due to the relentless weather geoengineering that’s been going on for decades
There's many stories circulating. One prominent one is the purchase of the boat by Whitby Lobster Hatchery with an aim to sink it at sea making new habitat for Lobsters and marine life.

Not exactly flooded is it? It's just a high spring tide linked to the full moon and it's distance from earth
