My dad was a collector and encouraged all of us to collect because of the general knowlege you can pick up even it was just learing that Switzerland is called Helvetia
Definitely the right approach! Too much emphasis is placed on value, when 99.99% of stamps are worth nothing.
Good and informative guide for beginners. I am also use software to manage stamp inventory (multi collector) and lignup stamp search (to speed up identification process)
How do you start collecting ? Just start peeling off every good stamp you see on an envelope and put them in the album, its that easy !

I collect around the word money and stamps and I never think about making money off of them. I just enjoy it.

It seems postage stamps and postal services around the world will become things of recent past. I would not be surprised if both dissappear in the next few years...

i have a full sheet of GB 1883/84 victoria 10/- ultramarine UM MINT full gum, what do you think i'd get for it ?i might sell as its just sitting in my old shoe box, it has I.R.OFFICIAL stamped over each stamp so i'm guessing they've been ruined :( but might be worth something to someone , when i hold them up to the light there is an anchor watermark on each stamp !!! is this good or bad i dont know much about stamps and things

i do collect stamps and first day covers but most of my collections are produce locally hehehe...my only problem here is where to find a good album and big enough to accommodate my collections of stamps, miniature sheets and FDCs hehehe..wish i could start at a young age
