Pelvic Floor Prolapse Surgery Recovery 1 Week After Cystocele, Entrocele & Rectocele Surgical Repair

  • If you've recently undergone surgical repair for a pelvic floor prolapse, you may be wondering what to expect in the weeks following your procedure. While every patient is different, here's a look at what you might experience one week after a cystocele, entrocele, and rectocele surgical repair.
First and foremost, it's important to follow your surgeon's instructions for post-surgery care. This may include taking prescribed medications, avoiding certain activities, and making follow-up appointments as needed.
In the first week after surgery, you may experience some discomfort, pain, and swelling. These symptoms are normal and should gradually subside over time. Your surgeon will likely prescribe pain medication to help manage any discomfort.
It's also common to experience some difficulty with bowel movements after a pelvic floor prolapse surgery. Your surgeon may recommend a specific diet or medication to help with this.
During this time, it's important to take it easy and give your body time to heal. You should avoid heavy lifting, straining, and any activities that put pressure on your pelvic floor. Gradually increasing your activity level as you feel able is typically recommended.
Overall, recovery from a pelvic floor prolapse surgery will vary from person to person. By following your surgeon's instructions and taking it easy, you can help ensure a smooth and successful recovery.

Constipation: a bowel movement can be stimulated locally also. Such as:
    1. Glycerin Suppository. Not only does it stimulate the rectal sphincter, also lubricates with no medicine. Use finger to push it high into rectum, can wrap finger with plastic wrap from the kitchen. Glycerin suppository does easily slip out if you don't like it.
    2. Enema: Single dose disposable Oil enema bought at the store, makes the stool And rectum slippery so stool slips out much easier with little or no pushing. Also, the water in the oil enema does add bulk and pressure, but you're controlling it since it's a small hand-size collapsable soft plastic. This disposable enema also comes in a Saline Solution that has no oil but Does Stimulate the Bowel so it's more aggressive in that the bowl doesn't tolerate the saline and empties out. Warm disposable enemas in warm water before use. Two disposable enemas can be used but must be of the same type.
    3. Soap Enema: you make this one yourself. Buy Enema bag and a Bar of Neutrogena Soap. Enema bag comes with long hose to hang it from the towel rack. Make about a quart of solution in a separate pitcher, warm water. Taking the Neutrogena bar soap in hand, get the water soapy enough that you can feel it soapy with your clean dry other hand. Neutrogena Bar soap is nice. It's the only one to use that I know of ! Having the bag hung high enough that the hose can deliver, get down on the bathroom floor on a towel. You'll have the clip in your hand and you control the flow. With each small delivery, wait a minute. You may repeat. You don't need to feel the urge. Sit on the toilet, don't push if you can help. it. Repeat if you want to. Methods are fast acting. Sit there. Common to see books or magazines in the bathroom in some homes. Make time for this.
The oral laxatives are unpredictable and a person could become dependent. Milk of Magnesia is nice, also come in pills.
Eat Fiber r - Spinach, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Cabbage, Prunes, Cabbage, Kale and beans of any kind, etc.
Walking can stimulate a bm. Move.
Sit on the toilet every day At The Same Time, maybe even twice a day, even if there's no urge. Sit there, maybe after a caffeine drink like coffee or tea in the morning.
Epsom salts bath soaks does relax because of the magnesium and just the warm/hot water relieves tension for many people and can possibly allow for BM.
If the body doesn't get enough water, It Will Draw Water From the Bowel, making constipation more likely.
Bowel Impaction responds well to enemas. Impaction is more rare, usually takes about a week or more to form. Impaction more seen in nursing homes when folks are in bed, wheelchair, etc. Bowel movement needs to happen For Everyone, at least every 3 days, Max !

Your left side is more helpful for bowl movement. My gastro told me that. Breathing is easier on tourbleft. Your body is designed as all bodies are to react better to bowel movements when you sleep or lay on your left side.

@@TheWickfrees Thank you! I'm one week post-op and finally feeling more like myself. Like you, I decided not to take any pain meds because I didn't like how they make me feel and they also interact with some of my regular meds, so there is definitely some pain and pressure in my pelvic area! When my bladder is full, it feels like there is a sharp pain in my pelvic area. Constipation is definitely still an issue and I'm trying to find the right balance between not going at all and going too much, because going too much brings about a LOT of pain in my tailbone area where they sewed my rectum to and also doesn't let me sleep much which I really need. Still napping a lot, not fully got my appetite back yet, and my belly is pretty swollen, but super happy with how much the surgery has helped my urinary issues even just in one week! :)

@@revawoods4205 I’ve just had a posterior anterior repair and hysterectomy- not as painful as I thought.
Swelling down there are big issues atm for me (I’m still in hospital) and the nurses have given me mini ice packs to put inside my undies. I used Ural after the catheter came out so no stinging.
No issues with bowel movement. Whilst in hospital, I have used coloxyl daily and also osmolax (tastes better than movicol for me personally) so bowel has moved - no straining .. yay
Pain wise I have had only Panadol and ibuprofen on off - especially beforehand when they take the packing out (gauze) of you down there. It wasn’t painful - nurse went slow and another sat with me talked me through it. I’m not sure if you have vag packing for posterior anterior repair or if it was for the hysterectomy.
The thing that I would tell anyone to do and, I’m so glad I did, was to *go and see a physiotherapist before the surgery.* really just go do it - the hospital won’t give you all the necessary info like a 1:1 consult with a physio.

Vickie Copeland it could be caused from that or a entrocele..you need to have it repaired as the problem only gets worse with time

Ask if you have Enterocele. It causes those Symptoms.

I am having this surgery tomorrow. Have have a question how long did you have to take pain medication? My doctor gave me pain meds for 2 days am I going to be in pain?

    • @TheWickfrees
      @TheWickfrees  Před 2 lety +1

i was on pain meds a few weeks i think only on morphine a day hahha...but honestly you dont want much pain meds as adds to the constipation! and if you having rectocel repair pooping needs to be non solid!

I’m glad I searched for your follow up. I had Rectocele surgery a week ago. I worked myself into a panic attack over this. I’m 60 yrs old. I’m pretty progressive and up on several issues. But my question is, Why don’t women talk about this? Why did I have a hysterectomy? Did that really cause this problem? Too many questions. No answers. I’ve Googled and found A link to the surgical part. Don’t go watch it. It’s gruesome. But Doctors! NP’s! DO’s. Someone explain this to your patients so they’re not frantic. Explain post op. Pain management. And patient’s, Ask questions. Don’t be shy. This has been done millions of times. Tip with opioid medication, which causes constipation. Ask for Movantix. It allows the pain med to work without severe constipation. Good luck and thank you for your story.

Thanks for sharing your tips you are right doctors tell us very very little and often play god. I was told to avoid hysterectomy if possible as any gap in body causes more prolapsed later in life xx I do pilates to keep everything that's left stronger xx
