  • In this episode we travel from Melbourne to Traralgon with Steamrail Victoria on the first of three trips with triple K class steam locomotives to celebrate 100 years of the K class Locomotive.
    The episode features me and some friends chasing the locomotives to Traralgon, including locomotive K153 (K100) throwing a rod, inside the Traralgon round house and the trip back.
    Don't forget to leave a comment with some feedback and of course subscribe if you haven't already and I'll be back next month with more railway journeys soon.

    i had the privilege of riding this train, and i must say, standing on the platform at flinders street at 10:30pm at night with a bag of sausage rolls in hand, waiting for my train home is a memory i doubt i'll ever forget.

    Rode the trip. Was sorry for the passengers in my compartment who'd never rode a Steamrail trip before! But I enjoyed it, listening to the climb up Haunted Hills and the radio chatter between drivers during a high-stress moment was eye-opening. Felt like a real journey rather than a day trip, slept on the train and woke up in the same location about 3 times but overall positive memories.

    Very cool. Great to see a triple header. In nsw while we have our preserved steam locos, each loco is often the only one in its class restored, so I doubt we would ever get to see something like this.

    • @WillJamesRailways
      @WillJamesRailways  Před rokem +1

      Absolutely! That's a good point I guess I never realised, but you do have some outstanding preserved locomotives! Hopefully I can see more of them in the future!

    Great video Will.
    It was not fun being delayed for so long with K100’s (K153) rod to fall off at the Haunted Hills and Herne’s Oak while on the way to Traralgon, but overall was all right and quite a bit of an adventure!
    I was the dude who said Mr James, wearing a blue jacket and a black cap.
    But in other words, good video!

    That would have been such an amazing event to watch.. still annoyed this all happens over in Victoria, and nothing happens here in WA... no Government support. and only 1 struggling heritage railway... not even allowed to operate mainline tours.. Amyway Great video mate! really made want to move to Vic now lol.

      @@WillJamesRailways Well, our rail heritage organization (Rail Heritage WA) has managed to restore 2 steam locomotives and is now restoring GM1. but the downside is the steam locomotives can only tun up and down the museum's yards. 2024 is our only heritages railway's 50th so fingers crossed something amazing happens there. but besides that, not much else.

    Fantastic post mortem of a chequered day out which I didn't do 'cos I wanted to watch the AFL Grand Final. I see "Milky" and Adrian featured a bit so I assume "Milky" was driving while you were filming the parallel footage, something you don't always get to appreciate on a chase as you have to watch out for the other *#@*!! motorcaders if you are chasing the train yourself. Watch those little wheels go! Thanks for posting! The wait for this was well worth it. Cheers from Michael.😉

    Great work in capturing the elements of a 'chase' and remaining positive in the face of adversity! Tours can and do go wrong, so you may as well enjoy it for what it is. We've all been there.

    Great footage once again Will, very nice and I love your commentary, you’re doing great 👍🏻. Also great job giving recognition to the SEC railway, it’s always very nice to see it get some spotlight every now and then. I’m currently building a working scale replica of one of them so the memory of them will not only live on as a static displays at Newport but also an active reminder of the history of the Valley. I run a Facebook page blogging the build of it as all the work building it is done at home. Update: motors and controllers will be bought soon 😁👍🏻

    I live in the States (California), but I enjoy seeing steam locomotives wherever they are in the world. It looks like the Australian locomotives share both British and American construction characteristics; they look very handsome. Nice to hear that these engines have American-sounding multi-chamber whistles instead of the tiny little British "peep-peep" whistles, which don't really befit the dignity of the British engines. . .
