    CASE DETAILS
Samantha came home from work in Russelville, Arkansas and told her mother that she, her 22-month-old daughter Courtney Holt, and a friend (Selena) were going to a concert in Little Rock, Arkansas, and would be back on September 12.
Turns out, there was no concert, and Selena was not going for the real story is that Samantha had a boyfriend in West Memphis that mom (Debbie) did not approve of.
Samantha dropped Dezarae off an hour earlier at her mother's home, leaving in a blue 1989 Ford Tempo with 22-month-old Courtney Holt, never been heard from again.
We had few other details until meeting up with Selena, Debbie, and Dezarae on the morning of October 26th, 2021.
AWP then breaks down a search area looking at the most likely access points into the water near the last known routes and locations.
Jared and Doug begin their search off of Mill Creek Road, and send Jacob Grubbs and his team over to Pleasant View Road to search under 2 bridges.
In less than 60-minutes on the water using sonar, Jacob identified a vehicle underwater under the West Bridge on Pleasant View Road
Upon diving on the vehicle, it was confirmed to be a blue Ford Tempo.
The Pope Country Sheriff, Dive Team, Elmo's Crane Service, and all others involved deserving recognition for their delicate handling and recovery of Courtney, Samantha, and her unborn baby.
We are humbled by the opportunity all of you have given us to help in the search for answers as to what happened to Samantha and her babies.

Not to give the police a out, but guys the personal sonar devices have made huge leaps in technology in the last 12 to 10 years. They were basically just fish finders with no detail of the bottom surfaces. For a small town like this, they would have to rely on larger cities or state agencies for the proper equipment to sonar, and the people to be able to read it properly. The personal sonar equipment that is available now to everyone is leaps better than when Samantha and her babies went missing 23 years ago. Realising that a case grows cold, resources limited, Sheriffs come and go, sadly this is why these volunteer groups are so successful, they have the updated personal equipment and use it everyday to better hone their skill to locate their targets. Take care guys.

We had someone go through the guardrail into a river that swelled during winter but was barely deep enough to justify calling it a river during summer.
The construction workers just replaced the rail no questions asked.
Of course when summer came and the car was revealed the authorities did their poke poke into what might have happened. The person had been alive, underwater waiting for rescue, days after they crashed. They were for whatever reason unable to get out and the car wasnt leaking in significant amounts to cause drowning. They eventually succumbed due to lack of air as they used up all the oxygen or thats what the papers said.
Given the timeline, construction crews would have been out there while she was still alive. If just one person had thought to question then a tragedy might have been adverted.
One of the workers who had worked on the new guardrail took their own life after the story came out in the papers.

"The authorities" would never hear about broken guardrails. Your local public works probably is responsible for fixing them, and I wouldn't hold my breath on most of them stringing 3 brain cells together. Additionally, it doesn't take much for a car to skip the rails, or for another accident to hit them, and you assume that's the cause. Law Enforcement is not what you see on TV. Most counties don't have dive units, let alone the large budgets, or even the hours allowed to investigate something that had no leads, and was not a crime.

@@Youre-Welcome , I'm sad to read this comment made by you. I am "an authority" with a municipal government. In fact I'm a City Manager. You are right about the budget constraints but dead wrong on your assessment of the public works departments and "their duties & functions". Those employees are hard working individuals with many brain cells and the majority of them care and assess damage to roads and guardrails if reported. This case was obviously not reported. In rural areas, it is very common for things to be ignored, but not for 20 years. The authorities know. My guess is that it was reported by the PW's department and ignored by the city council during budget workshops. For you to make a statement that they only have "3 brain cells" was not called for. They are civil servant's that work very hard and are very underpaid but they are caring individuals. They should be appreciated more but this is the common feeling among residents that just take for granted what you precieve as actual. You, and all people like you need to go out there and see exactly what the PW's department does and what is going on or being ignored in your city, and then sit in budget workshops or council meetings. The problem is not staff. It's the council. They have the same mentality you do sadly about staff because they are clueless to the overwhelming amounts of problems their departments have with no money budgeted to fix things. I think the PW's department is the hardest working group of people there are working for a government entity, whether it be, city, county, state or federal. And they have brains, braun and a huge heart. God bless them!

Even if the Police DID have the equipment, they do not have the most important thing: The DIVING SKILL! Deep underwater diving is NOT EASY.
Another point is that you must understand that these equipments are expensive. The way government works on these expenses is through PROCUREMENT. Not DIRECT PURCHASE. Big difference. Procurement goes through a BIDDING process. Which takes time. Or if you must purchase right away, then OTHER FUNDS must be REALLOCATED and taken away from other projects that were already deemed as important. And you're gonna have to defend the necessity of that reallocation on SONAR. Either through congress or your local government which is CLOSE to impossible.
If you were the government office that approves the different office's budgets, which SOUNDS more important to you: SONAR equipment, Tow trucks and diving gear OR Funding agriculture to sustain food supply? Because both saves lives so you cannot really say "The SONAR will bring closure". FOOD saves lives too.
THIS is what these Police Departments go through. Should they do nothing then and use this as an excuse? Absolutely not of course and that is why they are trying to help with the little budget for this "allocation" as they have.
AWP is a private organization. They can get all the donations they want. In government, you're PROHIBITED to take money just by asking. It's called a BRIBE not a donation. They can get the funding since they do not go to a procurement process to get what they need.
I am happy with the victims who found answers with AWP's help and also sad that the police cannot do it instead but please let's stop pointing fingers and blame and start being grateful.

My 27 year old son went missing about 3 years ago. He moved to Oregon and I have not heard or seen him since. I could not imagine 23 years of not knowing. You guys are true hero's. Hero's don't wear capes or fancy suits, they drive motor homes and wear scuba gear. I cried during this recover, both tears of joy and tears of sadness. It is wonderful that this family no longer has to spend one more day of "not knowing" because even though it has only been 3 years for me, it was a lifetime for them. I will find my son one day, I know it in my heart. Please keep doing what you do, you are Hero's to me, and so many others.

What a wonderful job your team does, and it makes it better seeing that your team is not in it for receiving recognition but for your compassion you have to help others that are desperate for someone to help them. The police department and sheriff were all very respectful and did a great job working with you. And kudos to the crane operator. As someone who works for the government… there would be both positives and negatives to making them government funded. However, having to adhere to miles of red tape would likely make searches less effective and time consuming. The other problem would be the people that constantly whine about taxpayer dollars. In the context of tax dollars, there would be many that look at this work as having no tangible value because they don’t see a family’s closure/emotions as being beneficial to society as a whole (I don’t fully agree with that, there’s just a lot of bottom line/unsympathetic folks these days). Also, as different political leaders change, agencies/orgs often find themselves fearing that their funding may get cut/slashed.
Maybe grant consideration would be more appropriate. I’d just hate to see them having to play by the rules that gov-funded orgs often must.

A lot of people, for one reason or another, believe that using their mind makes them a "conspiracy theorist", etc. It results in people being afraid to think through scenarios (things like the first part of the video where they logically broke down the victim's prefered route, driving style, and so on) This fear of logic leads to ineffective search efforts, in my opinion. Put more simply, the cops seem to go through traditional channels, check off boxes and use little imagination, potentially because they are afraid of being unconventional and being wrong. Maybe morbid but in these situations you don’t have time to consider your mortality. You don’t have time to think much past shock and your survival reflexes. I think it’s not the worst way to pass away, as sad as it is, because you aren’t processing your forthcoming death or having that last minute trauma. I’ve been in a situation where I had time to realise that I was going to die… I’d rather have it end quickly with not enough time to really think much about it.
I don’t know if it helps but it makes me feel more at ease with the idea of how many people die. The sad part is the fact it happened and the people they left behind, the many years they had left 🙏

Unfortunately, too many officers come off as "cocky" because they have little or no wisdom when it comes to processing simple bits of information that could be vital to them during a situation. They get stuck in the control freak mode, and they come off as disrespectful, arrogant because they have a few guns, but you also need to consider the crap that cops deal with each and everyday. They work impossibly hard to clear their minds so they can get things right, so when they come to a situation they cannot handle or make a few mistakes, results can prove irreversible with negative results. As more and more of this information gets out, you'll find more officers trying to understand, and support guys at AwP. A perfect cop, you will never find, just stay safe to keep in mind. Condolences to all who seek closure, and may the good guys continue to progress ever forward in strength, skill and know how to assist us all at such times.

I think your deductive reasoning and use of all available information puts most homicide detectives to shame, and is probably why you guys are so successful when it seems like the "professionals" often are not.
