Thanks for the fix. Just an added note for other Aussies. Even though my default was set to English (Australian) I still experienced the problem. Changing the default to English (USA) problem gone.

it didn't work for me, so I edited the srt with notepad, and replaced the problem characters (they look the same in the file but not in the movie, different set code I guess), with the same character of my keyboard (local set code), that did the job.
I use splash and in the subtitles there is something of gen_main, 0, 0,0,0 or something like that, I manage to solve it, the only thing I found is what you did, but it is very tedious to gradually eliminate the problematic characters
@@miguelgibi NOT SO TEDIOUS AT ALL, in notepad, you copy-paste in find-replace (EDIT TAB) the problematic character, set the correct character in replace by, then click "replace all". So you have to do this no more than 2 or 3 times depending in the number of wrong characters the file has.
@@ohernik I didnt know that there was that tool hahaha, but I also found a program to change the subtitles fast, it's "Subtitle Edit" the problem now is that the subtitles are seen with bad quality, using your method and mine, instead, if I put in the vlc, the subtitles are seen with good quality, now I am looking for how to capture the subtitles of vlc in the video. I mean there is no choice of subtitles, which are already included in the video. I advance slowly but effectively xD

А как да сменя скрипта на films and tv app.? Излизат ми българските субтитри с някакви символи. На bs player е лесно като смениш скрипта на кирилица но не мога да открия такава опция на film and tv app. Благодаря предварително

Ако е нищо пробвайте да си преименуваш файловете с еднакво име, ако и това не, да добавиш окончание на субтитрите .srt .sub, може би. Ако виждате непознати символи опитайте със системния език на телевизора и някакви настройки по кодирането..
Ако и езикът за субтитри в настройките на плеъра е сменен на желания от вас, субтитрите сте сигурни, че са изрядни (от ренумираните сайтове) и след тази операция все още изпитвате проблеми... Не е добре работата:(

Options -> Subtitles -> Default Style -> Font -> change ANSI/DEFAULT to your language.

It did not change anything for me. It was the same and Chinese characters are still there. Don't know if it's related to the subtitle though.
It didnt work for me neither,the subtitles changed from hieroglyphs to empty squares....

If you have srt subtitles just "open with" word. Word will automatically choose the language.
