The Sultanate of the Invincible Iron Wall is so awesome, definitely the faction I'd roll with. I'd also love to see factions in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. I wonder if the whole demon invasion thing meant that the Americas never got colonized. Aztecs fighting demons sounds like it would be so damn cool.

The devs have states that colonization never happened. We can assume that the New World was still eventually discovered, if nothing else because in the 19th century the Catholic Church starts a space program so presumably there are satellites in orbit by 1914.
I’m personally a huge fan of the Islamic factions like the Sultanate, and the alchemical stuff they get up to.
Also the Hell faction, the Black Grail.
Man after my own taste lol. Like I said I'm also going Iron Sultanate but also same, Black Grail is prob my second. Though depends on if Heretic Legion gets cooler nee units in the actual release. I prefer more elite unit lists than mass conscripts or tiny dude spam.
Yeah, the Black Grail is like any Nurgle faction but somehow even more metal.
So far, I'm getting a vibe from trench crusade that I haven't gotten since Clive Barker's jericho back in 2007.

I'm so fucking glad this is blowing up now. I remember stumbling across this back in the day just stumbling through monster art on pinterest, and falling in love immediately. Now everyone is starting to learn about it, and I'm very excited for the day fan animations start coming out, assuming they haven't already and I just missed it.

I think it’s very understandable why people join hell. The world is fucked and hope is hard to come by. Many would want to lash out against the world that hurt them, so when they receive and offer, even from the enemy, that whatever issues they have can be solved or their misery at least be shared with people who get it, it’s an easy choice. You don’t need to be evil to join hell, just lose faith in Gods help. As you said too, suicide is a sin, so anyone who does that ends up with hell, even if they did it to escape hell.
plus the two biggest reasons people join is there bornin hell conquerd lands or there captured and torutured beyond insanity.
If you like demon summoning you should get the tabletop RPG Sorcerer by Ron Edwards. The players are demon summoners who can summon demons to get pretty much any power including making it easier to summon more demons. But each demon has a need that you need to satisfy or it will rebel.
...Every single part of that intrested me. I'm gonna look into this.

Without his Forge forum for talking about game design we wouldn't have Burning Wheel, Apocalypse World and all it's off shoots like Dungeon World, Blades in the Dark and all it's offshoots, and all the hundreds of games inspired by them.

I adore Antioch. Man and woman from all around the world fighting hand in hand against forces of Hell who unlike other two factions are still at touch with their humanity and will preservere against the forces of Hell until their last breath. I love it.
Also apparently they will get Hussars too. I heard Tuomas and Mike are working on rules for Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. I cannot wait.
For some reason I had thought the Kickstarter for this was already out. Continues to look really fascinating, although I also hope that after the initial launch they introduce more internal factions in the big armies or expand the world. For example, it would be fascinating to learn how Protestantism looks like in this world and India is geographically pretty close, so how did that region react to such a massive shift.
Also Assassin's Creed Revelations is a pretty wild game to start that series with, especially considering it doesn't really answer that many questions raised in the first two games of the Assassin's Creed 2 Trilogy.
...I feel every time I write a sentence about this particular game series, I have to take a moment to ponder how wild everything about it is.
Assassins Creed Revelations being my first is only because it was finally around the time I was allowed to play rated M games lol. Raised religious so it was a bit of a struggle, and I saw youtubers play that specific one.
The coolest part of Trench Crusade's setting is going to be answering that question of the other factions. Cause yeah what did happen to other christian denominations? One question my friend asked me that isnt shown in the book at all, is Franz Ferdinand still gonna get assassinated? What are the Austrians, French, Germans, ect up to right now? Its just so cool to think about.
There was an initial kickstarter to just get the project (lore, rule creation, miniature design, etc) started. That was pretty much gauging interest for the game and seeing how far they could go. Now a second kickstarter will launch later this year for the production of actual miniatures and official lore and rules resources

With the sheer amount of casualties a war of this kind would incur, I wonder what reproduction policies are like in this universe? Like what if they mandate each family have like 5 kids minimum to replenish the forces of man.

Instead of the actual reasons. Like Bethesda having a mentality of pumping out mediocracy for others to fix later. Or the fact their games have embarrassingly little internal planning. Or the fact they chase mass market appeal to the point of dumbing down their own story and mechanics. The fact Bethesda seems to be stuck years behind the rest of the games industry, but is able to coast by on name recognition. Or the fact they haven't been able to make a decent plot since Morrowind.
A lot of points that are very notably here, real things you can point to.

There is something just so raw and visceral about countless individuals from all over the world just... packing up and meeting together in the trenches to fuck shit up. Not in the safety of New Antioch or the behind the walls of the Iron Sultanate. Just neck deep in the trenches, constantly in the face of sin and corruption and just going "Nah, I'd win".

The hype behind this game is actually making me extremely hesitant to buy into it. This screams of Kickstarter scam. Definitely going to keep my eyes on how well the campaign goes and if I see the final products in person I may buy in but there’s no why I’m loaning money for a chance that the game gets done. Too expensive for that kinda of risk. Game sounds neat tho.
Be skeptical 100% but just to dissuade the worry, there are way more green flags here release wise. Theres been an early Kickstarter that did very well that was for that inital production phase most other Kickstarters would do. (Or every scam one does lol) The actual "product" being rules and models are out right now. Rules are free and in playtest, though being updated periodically with player feedback. Models are just in smaller supply. Just too much effort to be any form of rugpull. Especially since the game has been in production for what looks like 5 years or so? At least the art and lore side.
So the Kickstarter is for main production and product launch from the look of things. Which means its in the same boat as every other Kickstarter game. Buyers beware they will fulfill *every* promise and shipping obligation. An outright scam? Nah. Having followed too many indie tabletop releases this just screams successful launch. My main concern is carrying the momentum from that launch. Thats where they can easily fuck up the landing, as many other games have before them.

A really interesting variant i found in the playtest is the trench ghosts. Basically they are what happens when a heretic dies on sacred ground or near a holy relic. This causes them to be torn between heaven and hell, leaving them as hateful spectres that attack all parties. I really want to see more lore for them, and maybe some unique units.

okay i had this whole long paragraph explain this faction i randomly came up with based on a doom guy like figure in this new grimdark world but i hit a button and lost everything so TLDR. guy from religous faction dives into hell to save something, he comes back a lunatic and either dies becoming a martyr and inspiring this Pseudo-loyalist cult the dives into hell willing to learn more about the enemy. on the flip he can survive become a living saint, denounce the people who save him because their brand of worship isn't the same as the time he comes from because time is all wonky in hell, he leave and creates the same cult but its more structured, organized and for some reason diving into hell either gave the guy blessing or tainted him cuz he doesn't die from old age at least not at the age anyone else does. last thing low ranking soldiers rise through the ranks by presenting their captain with the head of a high ranking demon and challenging them to a dual to further prove their strength. hope you like this, sorry for the grammar

Nah, the game is honestly still going really strong. Not even in some cope defense over this game. But from the lens of someone who looks at the tabletop industry a lot, *especially* the indie scene. Trench Crusade is on track to become a successful launch. The only thing holding it back rn is official models not fully being a thing yet. I would safely bet on them easily making their Kickstarter target and a couple stretch goals when it drops.
Bro. Revelations is a veeery nice start into AC. It is the concentration of Ezios Story. AC 2 is maybe the most awesome "Ezio"-Game, but you get his full personality in Revelation. Plus the Flashback into his former life trou Romance-Memory. Then there is all the memory Shard thing with Altair, which is even more cool. I played AC 1 first and i can say the memories are very well chosen.

The playtest rules are fully out and on their site. Having read through it the game itself is incredibly promising. Good dice system, great build potential for lists even with its limited selection atm, and in a good mix of rule crunch without going over the edge. I'd put it more complicated than current 40k/AoS, and way less complicated than something like Bolt Action (Which isn't hard tbh lol).
So nah, not empty hype. Theres a lot of real promise and skill behind this. As someone who looks through a *lot* of new tabletop games. Theres a reason people are so hyped.

I embark on this debate in good faith and with no personal attack on your enthusiasm in fact i commend it. That said we have all seen many a 'next great X' be it book, film, video game franchise look great on paper and smash it's kickstarter goals only to collapse once it meets the initial beta test release. There is a big difference between writing a set of rules in a book with some nice illustrations (which can take a few months) to then constantly gathering data, interpreting statistics and changing and tweaking game rules in an ongoing evolution of balance and meta-tactics as player skill advances. Assuming this game even gets that far. I'm no fan of warhammer but I must commend them for ensuring future proofing with ongoing revisions... for all the fury it evokes in the fanbase (and I have my own opinions as to how this benefits profits). We are glimpsing someone's initial concept here in the form of Trench Crusade... this is a long road which I feel will be disappointing and I caution those from spending too much money too early with the cost of living being what it is.
Skepticism in projects like this are important. I'm in no way saying to ever shed that. In my own personal opinion, this game is shaping to be a successful launch. They have an active growing fanbase and more names laching on. Apparently John Blanche is gonna do some stuff with them. As well. The rules themselves have been playtested and reviewed. Having only the chance to read it at the moment, I was happy to see the reviews I found matched my take aways. Also added some better insight on how to enjoy my game when I do get the chance to play it myself.
Having dealt with new indie tabletop projects a lot, this is a storm of a successful launch. Will it fully compete with the current top dogs of wargaming? Highly doubtful. Will it make a big indie splash? I think its a safe bet. A safe enough bet I'm gonna drop a reasonable amount on the Kickstarter lol. Trust me, I wish I had the cash to drop hundreds or thousands on something lol.

I certainly hope it does too! I want those models lol. And that would be very very unlikely. My video philosophy is to make stuff I personally would be intrested in watching. I just happen to find actual play content of ttrpg or wargames incredibly boring. So not my vibe. I'd update in a future Trench Crusade video when the core book actually drops.

Yes and no. Yes in the fact both parties aren't serving the forces of Hell. So common ground and common enemy. No in the fact its still a wargame. So every faction also has lore baked in so they can fight each other, including faction ditto matches. The only wargame with that exception is the Lord of the Rings one fun facts.
