The Indochina notes are my favorite. I just got some modern notes of Vietnam. Loa has the kip. The older paper notes have little vignettes of basic life in those countries. I am with you on the all too similar designs on the modern notes. I have not found any yet but our local show is on in March. 1957 100 kip is my favorite note of all time.
I discovered that the 30,000 rifle of Cambodia celebrates the official end of the Cambodia Viet War and the peace settled in Paris. That is why the Eiffel Tower appears...then Hun Sen...and the King...very curious note...

Hi Aromatic Foods. I like to keep each banknote seperate as well...I get my banknote holders from my local coin shop. He gets them from a company in the US called Uline. I have heard that in Europe you can get them as well. But I have no idea the brand name. I also sometimes get them from Denly's of Boston. I will try and find some links.

I found it interesting Cambodian notes are basically very "open" to foreign elements on their notes: Japanese monument, Eiffel Tower, Chinese characters celebrating diplomatic relations, even to former Lao monarchy arms

Can you give me more details about how the Sangkha of the Kingdom of Cambodia is the royal arms of Lao? I see the royal crown which is still in use in Cambodia as well as Thailand, and is shown on King Sisowath on the back of the 200 riels...I also see the 5 tiered royal umbrellas on either side of the crown. I have found that this crown is very similar to all the kingdoms of this area....
Are we talking about the white elephant under the umbrella? Because I may be mistaken, but I thought that white elephants were a symbol of monarchy all over SE asia. And it stands to reason that if this is the case in Myanmar, Thailand, and Lao, that it might extend to Cambodia as well...Didnt this symbol have some use in Viet Nam as well? This is all very interesting! and on a banknote worth about 5 cents in the US!

I only grow my thumb nails for two reasons: my grandfather used to build string instruments. I grow my thumbnail to honor him and to strum the string instruments. I also am a master gardener. A thumbnail allows for a quicker harvest, pruning, and ending the life of wee beasties who compete with me for fruits and vegetables.
