Onetime, a decade or so ago. A village in Africa was hit with a co2 cloud that killed everyone except 2 men. They woke up to find every person, animals, etc all dead on the ground. Thinking they were under attack by a spirit they ran to the next village to find that the same thing had happened. Turns out the lake a few miles away from them released an enormous co2 bubble that clouded up and floated over the villages during the night, killing almost everything that it touched. So this is not far from reality tbh.
Pray it doesn’t happen near enough to you or get high enough that the air is safe. CO2 is heavier than normal air (O2, N2, H2 so on) so as long as you are higher, you have a higher chance of surviving something like this. If you are surrounded by mountains, it is possible that the CO2 will be trapped in the area if there is no slope down and out. The farther spread it is, the more likely it will dissipate. But this is a rare occurrence so it is highly unlikely to occur.
I feel like I just uncovered the perfect psychology of 60 second endless scroll content. This is a real phenomenon that a few lakes deal with, called a limnic eruption and the point of something like this is to try and prevent buildup. Lake Nyos erupted in 1986 releasing an estimated 100,000-300,000 tons of CO2 all at once killing off most of the residence.
Definitely, yes. They created a geyser which prevents the lake from exploding but the way that happens is by bringing all the CO2 rich water right up next to them. Easy way to suffocate.
@@Delta_19 A friendly reminder that during the height of season 3 there was a massive writer strike back then and a lot of shows were cancelled so season 4 writing isn't the best but Yea try to enjoy it till the end
For those who dont know they are trying to prevent what is known as a limnic eruption. A limnic eruption is what happens when co2 is trapped at the bottom of a lake and it all rises at one time. Since co2 is heavier than oxygen it will push away all of the oxygen causing anyone and everyone in the area to suffocate and die. Thankfully due to the very rare and specific conditions needed, this isn't a very real concern.
Most of it was good, started to get worse at the end (don't mean to spoil but it gets to the point where the group of GENIUSES get a dog out of storm drain 💀)
If you don’t understand, the water at the bottom got carbonated from CO2 leaking into the lake bottom, and if you’ve opened soda before, you know that it’s not all released at the same time. The explosion would occur if the bottom got disturbed, like if you shake the soda before opening it
@@Sarge92 temperature and pressure, the top is weighing down on the bottom which is also quite a bit colder, and that makes them not want to mix very much
From what I've seen in another clip, NONE of the local people BELIEVE that they're in danger, so the Team is working to save people who won't leave their traditional festival thing...
The lake exploding will release a giant death cloud of CO2. Google the Lake Nyos disaster, this very thing happened in the 80s and killed over 1700 people and 3500 livestock.
It aint that type of boom, its an explosion of gas that bubbles ul and travels slowly like a creeping fog, pure co2 that kills any breathing creatures who get trapped in it
Methane buildup does happen in bodies of water, but you usually vent the floor of the lake/pond by drilling into it... Dropping a pipe on top does nothing.
So can Co2 like giant soda can. This happens in warm climates when deep lakes don't water cycle. What can happen is called a limnic eruption and it's deadly.
