Hey Mark, I heard you say that the potatoes are resilient. I’m in zone 8B and mine got totally zapped by a heavy frost. They totally died back and totally recovered. It will be my best potato crop ever. Thanks for what you do to teach us how to be better gardeners.

Appreciate the reference to planting late. I’m in upstate NY and have had the same insane weather you had. Doing my boxes this Memorial Day weekend and now I know to go ahead and fill them up. Thanks!

The cardboard box peaked my interest also. I planted one box of potatoes but I didn't open the bottom I did poke holes. I'm anxious to see how all this cardboard box planting comes out

The boxes are a good idea especially since my raised beds got broken. I remember you do this before, now I need it. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mark. Saw your video on potatoes in cardboard but hilled with hay. Im trying that method and Green tops are growing well! Should I add any nutrients since I only have 4 " of soil with hay on top?

Can I put boxes on gravel? Live in AZ and no dirt

I put boxes on gravel last year, I didn’t have bottom closed, but it disintegrated anyway. Worked well no issues except cleaning the dirt afterwards 😊

Is it better to water potatoes once a week like you do or can I just water every day normal amount ?
    Thanks 🙏🏻😌

Wait, aren't store bought potatoes sprayed with non sprouting compounds?? I've always heard that even if they produce eyes, they won't grow the actual tubers well, is that false?

All material are expensive. I need to figure out how to improve soil in a natural way. Probably the long run, planting shrubs for organic material. Nothing last ad long as rough wood chips.

    Where is the leaf mold

    • @iamorganicgardening
      @iamorganicgardening  Před rokem

This video is he first step at planting time. You add the leaves above the 4 inch if soil when the green growth is 8 inch taller. Then you can add the 4 inch of leaf mold. Thanks

I'm interested in this method, but you plant your potatoes on top of already prepared yard soil, it seems to me, if one is doing this on poor soils, of any kind, we'd need to do some sort of existing yard prep: loosening existing clay and/or placing the seed potatoes on at least 2"-4" of loosened ground, at least or prepared, bagged soil for the potatoes to grow into.
Am I missing something? I appreciate your tips of watching the box strength, and referencing numbers you want to see, as well as selecting only brown cardboard boxes.
If you have planted potatoes in the fall with this method, would you refer to that video? AND? If you DO use this as an overwinter growing method, could we add a few garlic bulbs in the fall and grow both in the same box?🤔

I dd nothing to the soil under the box.
I never tried it over winter, Thanks

If they sprout in their bags then they probably aren’t irradiated or treated with anti sprout chems...👍🏼
