To be fair and honest, anime didn't develop into its distinct style as everyone would know it as until the 90s. It began sooner, but Anime studios were still drawing heavy inspiration from Western studios due to how Osamu Tezuka, the Grandfather of Anime, based his style on older Western Animation. Japanese anime started with clear Western influences and developed its own style over the decades. And now, the roles are more reversed, with anime's design being a clear influencer of Western animation.

Arwen and Elrond are half-elves and shouldn't have pointy ears. When Aragorn first met Arwen as portrayed in the appendices he does not realize she's an elf.
It's impressive how different this is from the movies. Impressive in a good way, don't get me wrong. I especially liked the pieces for Mordor and the Nazgul.
Mindblowing stuff! I like all of the random scenery shots. A lot of pages in the books are dedicated to just describing how the natural world of The Lord of the Rings looks, and while New Zealand has some great locations; it doesn't quite match Tolkien's vision, imo. But here, the AI effortlessly generates wonderfully magical looking sceneries. I think I can see some of the source materials' styles and aesthetics, like Vampire Hunter D. Always loved those animes. I need this technology to evolve, so that actual moving images can be produced, using it. But again: amazing images, and I also like your choice of music; really creates a kind of eerie, epic atmosphere.
Very well done. And while it isn't fully like an 80s anime, it shouldn't be an exact copy of the methodology either. This gives it its own air, which any animation studio would want. Yes, design inspirations tend to be somewhat standard, which is how you can tell anime these days, or at least what was inspired by anime. But anime didn't fully come into its own current design standard until the 90s. Anime studios actually did a lot of work for Western Studios, which is how anime designs up until the 90s actually looked a lot more similar to Western designs. Oh, they had their own factors that only appeared in Anime for Japanese audiences, but the work for Western Studios kept a number of anime studios afloat while they built their own names. And anime was originally inspired by Western animation to begin with. Granted, we're talking about Western animation from before the 1950s, which has its own style. And anyone who has seen things done by Osamu Tezuka, who basically founded the anime industry, can tell where he originally drew his influences for his style.
Y'all...A Japanese animation studio called Topcraft did the 1977 Hobbit film.. before it reformed into Studio Ghibli. The only reason it doesn't look like "anime" is the designs were done by Rankin/Bass
@@rustmonster1e You have to remember that it was not uncommon for Western animated films and shows to be done in Japan back then if they were done by studios not named Warner and Disney, who basically had a lock on the Animation Studio landscape back then. Sauron was known to be super handsome in the ancient times but lost his good looks (Fall of Numenor) and then his body altogether (War of the Last Alliance) and has since been the embodiment of seething. This is definitely a big step up from Rankin Bass' animation and it makes Uruk-hai distinguishable from Orcs. This is the first look we get at Sauron's face, without an iron mask. Gollum looks almost Warner Bros. impression of Dobby the house elf. So many lush and beautiful backgrounds as well morbid and dark ones.
Some of these are close. As someone who grew up watching manga in the 80's I can tell you these aren't nearly dark, gritty, offensive, dirty and graphic enough to be 80's anime 😂
If I'm not mistaken and I know I'm not because I own them. The LoTR and the Hobbit were originally animated way before Peter Jackson did live action versions of the books.

The Tolkien purist in me can't help but pick apart each and every single lore inaccuracy in these pictures, which is what's kept me from ever properly enjoying the Jackson films. Still, can't deny, some of these pictures are very cool.
I always have said only the people who do the genuine,raw,hard-edged Anime could ever really capture what Tolkien actually wrote in The Silmarillion.Everyone else will be too timid and prissy.I like the Sauron designs here.I can see him appearing as a mockery of an Elf when he was still in his prime, working with Morgoth.
Overall Excellent. 2 bones to pick Rivendell should be more outdoorsy The shire homes are (mostly) holes in the side of hills, not homes on top of the ground. Otherwise I'd love to see this as a full series, made more like Tolkien's works than Jackson's. Three seasons of 1 hr episodes.

Just Imagine that in future with a computer and AI powerful enough to simulate whole movie/anime precisely by the story, with simulated imagery, sounds, voices. I feel it like not far too long to wait, just look at whole deep fake thing, It is fascinating
King of the Dead is pretty good.
Ultra-profane LOTR dub when?
Arwen: "Where are my pointy ears??"
Answer: That fiend Saruman took them for himself.
If I'm not mistaken and I know I'm not because I own them. The LoTR and the Hobbit were originally animated way before Peter Jackson did live action versions of the books.
There already exists an animated version of LOTR. It's Ralph Bakshi LOTR and Rakin/Bass Hobbit and Return of the King.
A different level from Bakshi with no rototscoping in sight lol.
OMG Yes. This looks amazing. My dream is someone will come to their senses and make a legit adaption to all then books in animation. None of this Amazon crap they got out their now. GReat job.
i really want this now!
You earned my sub for this...
Thank you :)
I imagined everybody's voice from the Peter Jackson films until it got to Aragorn... and it was John Hurt.
Soon enough we will see animation
Looks amazing! Especially the Isengard images are insanely cool. Did you use any particular sources? I'd very much like to watch something with the same vibe and the only thing that comes to mind is Vampire Hunter D.
There already was a Lord of the Rings anime made in the 1980s.
The Baksh one isn't an anime. It's very distinctly Western style artwork.
He’s not talking about Bakshi though, but The Return of the King by R-B and Topcraft Japan..@@derek96720
Love the look of this. Could almost see a Fire Emblem crossover working.
So nostalgic and accurate to the period!
It looks fantastic. The only rendering I didn’t like was Sauron. He should be exactly as in the movies.
Arwen should have pointy ears. Apart from that, quite nice and atmospheric.
This is definitely a series I'd watch! (it must be a series, it's to long to be a movie)
Oh dude, major Bakshi vibes! I’d definitely watch it
I see they cast Orlando Bloom as Legolas here too.
Overall Excellent.
2 bones to pick
Rivendell should be more outdoorsy
The shire homes are (mostly) holes in the side of hills, not homes on top of the ground.
Otherwise I'd love to see this as a full series, made more like Tolkien's works than Jackson's. Three seasons of 1 hr episodes.
Damn, that actually looks like Elijah Wood
I would go and watch this if it was actually made lol
That was unreal.
