Hi JetPens Team! My question - what's the point of making videos of finding differences? It seems pointless to me. Can you instead suggest school supplies for students class 6-8?

It is really interesting to see how Martin works with the pencils. He feels them up, listens to them, rolls them in his palms, and touches them...he does a little writing, but not a lot. Martin seems to have fairly little contact with the paper he is writing on. His way of assessing a pencil is very different from Stephanie's. You can see Stephanie writing on the paper, feeling the paper, writing some more, feeling the paper some more. Her approach seems more like an assessment of how each pencil writes. Martin remembers his high school days, when he couldn't afford quality writing instruments. So he feels comfortable identifying a pencil he thinks is cheap. Stephanie works hard trying to identify the pencils in this test. I think both Martin and Stephanie bring up very interesting characteristics of each pencil. I thank both of them, with much gratitude. I'm on the older side and have little experience with mechanical pencils. In fact, I'm nearing retirement. Perhaps I should buy a few different mechanical pencils and require myself to use them for a year and really work with them.

Tough test! Stephanie should definitely NOT go into hiding, she has way too much camera presence and fun. Howdy Martin, I'd say you did quite well *esp* for a Newbie. My only complaint is that neither Merriam or Josh were in front of the camera today! Bravo and Cheers, folks!:D

I love my Kura Toga Advance and use it a ton, but I think the standard Kura Toga would have been enough to throw me off. Pencils have got to be one of the most difficult to do this with, with pens at least you can try to figure out something from the ink differences.

The DelGuard and Kuru Toga are two of my fave mechanical pencils (and used Bics all through high school lol). I could probably tell them apart but they feel pretty similar…

First when she guess the Uni ball One when her first thought was the Sarasa Mark On and ended up being the First thought. Now, thought of the Kuru Togs over her first thought of the DelGuard and ended up being the first thought. Wow… maybe it’s better to stick with the first option

  • @garys221

Did all the pencils have the same lead in them? It’s my experience that once you move beyond the Bic garbage that the pencil lead has more to do with the writing feel than the pencil.

  • @jslipchi
    @jslipchi Před 3 měsíci +2

It's pretty easy to tell the tactile differences between a Zebra Delguard and an Uni Kuru Toga if one owns both.
The tip shape is the easiest. Uni Kuru Togas have retractable lead guide while the Delguard's is stationary.
The Kuru Toga also feels more springy.

Curious if all the leads were the same, or if they were tested with the different leads that come with the pencils? I find that I immediately change the lead when I get a new mecha.
Really interesting how each user dealt with the experience differently. I think the biggest difference is in vocabulary & language. Stephanie obviously has a greater vocabulary & experience with stationery, but that doesn't necessarily make anyone's experience "better" or "right", just more.

    • @JetPens

I would have gotten the Bic immediately. but ... I come from a land of RPGs and Cons and "cheap bulk pencil that makes lines"
That said, I could not have told you which of the other two was which, I recognize the brands, but wouldn't be able to recall them without prompting.
I probably would have identified that one of them rotated the lead, and MAYBE that they had protections built into the needle point. but I struggle to tell the difference between grips as it is (and I shouldn't! I get hand cramps, there's probably a simple solution out there I just don't understand!)
Was I surprised by the "Expert"'s results? not... really? the expertise is not in "blindfolded writing implement identification" and frankly I'm not sure that would be a particularly useful expertise outside of this one specific context.
I do, however, like this format. I think you get some interesting insight into the actual FEEL of the tool, rather than a read through, or occassional explanation, of bullet points on the package.
In the future, I would love to see a line up of 5 pencils, from cheapest/simplest to priciest/most "advanced" and see 3 reviewers instead of 2. then, and this is where it's labor intensive, you edit for the experience each has with the pencil "Oh this writes so smoothly... this... this must be a rotating tip right? it feels sharp on ever stroke, and I didn't think the tip would be so sturdy but even if I vary pressure the lead doesn't feel in danger of breaking", "okay... I have no idea what this grip is... I don't think I'm going to like it, but I guess I should write for a few minutes to give it a proper try *2 minutes later* Okay, you know, I think I was wrong. I felt like the ribbing was going to make it uncomfortable, but it does actually make my grip on the pencil feel more stable without me having to use much pressure. it's not how I usually write but maybe I should be giving this a shot". Stuff like that.
Anyway, Comment is too long, sorry! BYE!

Did they have the same lead in each pencil? The way each pencil functions plays a part in the experience, but then so does the quality and softness or hardness of the lead.

Stephanie, don't feel bad, Covid culture effects have put many of us relearning to trust our instincts as we re-emerge into it. It's far more impressive you knew right off than it is unimpressive you doubted yourself. It's IMPORTANT to second guess SOME, don't get discouraged by this, instead take heart and note that you DID know. Mind you, that'll improve your instincts, which can be uncomfortable to have in this society. More videos, less shame/hiding! 💜

I haven't tried those fancy pencils because they aren't available in my country but I have tried some others around the same quality. I can tell you guys that every single time I came back to my trusty bic with a 0.7 mm B lead. It's the best for my handwriting, it's lightweight, doesn't clog or jam and it comes in a lot of different fun colors 😊

you are a noob if you cannot tell the difference between the del guard and a kurutoga as kurutoga has rubberized ring near the grip and del guard has a very distinct tip which cannot be mistaken with a kurutoga.
