  • In this adventure we have the tipper dump moved by the famous outback opal hunter Justin Lang and his mining partner Jared. We fix the wobbly tipper pulley we’ve had for nigh on 30 years, and I head off to Dead Horse to see if I can improve our companies lagging fortunes with some pillarbashing. Its neck and neck between slow and steady earth moving (opal mining) and opportunistic scouting for bits and pieces in old claims (pillarbashing).. Watch to see how this round pans out! #australianopal #cooberpedy #adventure #opal #gemstonejewelry #opalmining

    You gotta love the feeling of pulling out some nice opal, thanks for sharing, next time we go up to Coober, I need to go out to dead horse gully, the stuff I have seen you guys pull out is insane, it’s good to see someone can find opal.😂😂

      Awesome, thanks for watching mate.
      Hey seriously, the hills heading from the old open cuts in the original ‘Gully’ up to the deep fields have hardly been touched. You guys might do well to have a scratch around there!

    That was some beautiful material you was finding!!! What did the old timers just not care for it when it was thin like what your were finding?? Since you seemed to be finding it a lot in that claim
    I enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up

      Glad you enjoyed it! It’s a game of numbers I suppose. The original miners are operating large machines that can cost up to a couple of thousand a week just in fuel. This means they often just chomp past small traces looking for larger areas that pay better. As a pillarbasher I can capitalise on this by more thoroughly investigating these small traces that sometimes make a bit of opal that is good value for us but hardly worth stopping to gather for the bigger mining companies.

    Do you put pegs in the ground only for the sake of investigation? Without registering them (unless you found something worthwhile)?

    • @Opaldigger
      @Opaldigger  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yes ir,
      We are allowed to peg a claim and have 48 hours to investigate with just the date of pegging displayed.
      After this time we must notify with a geolocation survey and we then have 14 days to decide to register or pull pegs.

    I like the opal surrounded by ironstone, boulder opal, much more ironstone than opal, a pound or more, rough. Not koroit. I think the ironstone and sand add to the beauty of the opal. To me, the cut and polished gems are not as interesting.

      We always say it never looks as good as when it's in the ground, being seen for the very first time.

      @@Opaldigger --- True, it is being seen for the first time.
