Very similar to your boat on a crane in Thunder Park, there is another boat on a crane just past the start/finish line at Hydro Speedway that hides a 9 second boost. There's also a hidden 4 second boost when entering the giant cargo boat in Arctic Circle.
I remember stumbling across a four-seater in Jillians back in the day and one day there was 25 credits on one of the players and a guy in player 4 was racing with Banshee and doing quite well. I challenged him with my favorite boat (Armed Response) and managed to beat him on Thunder Park (I think my boat does better on tight turns than his). He proceeded to say he was the city champ on that game and that I was the 1st player to ever beat him. I played 10 more matches against him and won three. I'll take it! :D
I've never had the opportunity to play this game before, either in the Arcade or home console versions. If I ever do, I'm glad to have these tips. Great video!
Ohh man it’s so good! Check it out for sure. I’d recommend the Dreamcast version if possible.
It's a really fun game! If you get the chance you should try it! I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to it, but I've been in the Hydro Thunder speedrunning community for a while and I ended up making a basic website with a bunch of different links and resources, one of which is a list of publicly playable Hydro Thunder (and H2Overdrive) arcade machines. The list isn't very large right now, but anyone can submit to it to help expand it! I try and make sure it's as up to date as possible, but I have to do everything manually due to how it's being hosted right now so it can occasionally fall behind a little bit

Love this video. There's a barcade that has a couple of these machines and I never knew the secrets on them for the arcade cabinets!
Try them out, I don’t personally love any of the secret boats for trying to beat my best times but they’re still interesting to see.

Interesting question…so it’s not the arcade version on MAT3, it’s actually the Dreamcast version. It may not work but I assume Dreamcast cheats would work.
Awesome overview! I didn't know about the invisible boosts. Your boost button isn't blinking! I picked up a new one on ebay that has the light in it.
Mine isn’t blinking because of a wire that got damaged. It causes a fuse to blow. I’ve got to get a new harness unfortunately.

other useful invisible boosts:
the far east - final stretch, just before the last tunnel where the small piece of land is in the middle of the path, a +4 is above it
ship graveyard - the building up above where the sandford and son audio plays from, has a +9 inside. you can jump around the side of it to avoid wiping out and still grab it
hydro speedway - same as thunder park, the suspended banshee right in front of the start line houses a +9
nile adventure - there are two hidden +9s in the wide area before entering the snake. one on each side, in between a pillar and the wall. the launch shortcut makes these not necessary, but if you miss it, or don't take it, they could help
something i think should be noted, even if this doesn't matter as much on arcade: the hydro jump requires letting go of the boost button as the first step of the input sequence, but as long as you let it go before the throttle leaves forwards range, it'll work

I was so addicted to the Xbox 360 version.
That one wasn’t made by the same people but still was a good game. Check out H2Overdrive, it’s the true sequel to Hydro Thunder. It’s only available as an arcade and they couldn’t use the name since Microsoft bought the IP.

Fyi, if you use neutral instead of reverse for the super start you can get the starting boost without jumping out of the water which is slightly faster

Sanford and son ran a salvage yard (from what I remember when my dad would watch it lol). The track is Ship Graveyard and the building where it’s playing says (someone name I can’t recall right now) and Son. I assume it’s a ship salvage yard reference lol
instead of disabling the other racers with low and pilot at the boat selection screen that does the (R/I), you can also do high and low for no ketchup.................... no catch up?, which should keep you from catching up to the other boats however it never works for me, for example just play a regular race with other boats racing against you, come to a stop, and so do they, allowing you to catch up to them but when ever the ketchup bottle is enabled, it still lets you catch up to them, so if anyone knows what it truly means, please tell me.
I really wish you could emulate the arcade version of this game. My absolute favorite arcade game. How different would you say the pc version is?
The PC version isn't bad, it seems to have lower quality textures and lighting effects. The sound is lower quality as well. The loading screen doesn't have the sound of them "preparing" to race, which sucks. It also lacks force feedback if you play with a wheel. I'm truly stunned no one has emulated this game. I know there are multiple supplemental boards inside and a full sized PC but the hardware is pretty old and should be able to be emulated. The issue might be there were only 2 games made for this hardware and maybe they can't figure out how to emulate the Diego board. Nothing beats the arcade experience, the wheel feedback is great, the subwoofer in the seat rumbling and the throttle is awesome. You can find these machines fairly cheap, even in good condition you'll probably pay less than $1000. I greatly prefer the CRT monitor but if you ever have a cabinet that has a bad monitor, I believe you can just plug in the VGA cable and be up and running without converting the arcade video signal. The game looks decent on an LCD since it was a "medium resolution" game.

Tech Tangents shows his image of the game booting on a virtual machine but because there were so many console ports there won't be any traction to get the arcade version working on modern PC hardware. I was trying to find a good playthrough of the arcade port that would show any difference in track detail/geometry with the PC/Dreamcast version but I can't find any that are filmed with video capture. Would you say the track and boat details are identical other than the texture detail you mentioned earlier? Eventually I will probably break down and purchase the full cabinet. Hopefully the CRT isn't too rough, but I bet this game would look pretty well on a 32" LCD through a RetroTink 4K with a phosphor mask!

It’s a really great racing game. People still seem to love it today. I’m surprised it’s never come back as a console or mobile game. My assumption is the source code is gone so it can’t be ported.

I always see speedrunners using Blowfish. I personally prefer Tidal Blade and will use Rad Hazard for some easy tracks.
