Stolen Jeep Drives Out of Multiple PITs Attempts from GSP | Trooper Gets Some Help From His Friends

- On August 1, 2021, I, Cpl. R. Youngblood was patrolling Moreland Avenue near I-20. While patrolling, I
received a License Plate Reader alert (LPR) in reference to a vehicle that passed my location. The
vehicle was traveling in the opposite direction (south). The alert was in reference to a vehicle with a
suspended registration. The tag that was read was GA tag RLK 1803. The alert also informed me
tag RLK 1803 should be affixed to a 2010 Hyundai Sonata. The image of the vehicle that was taken
when the tag was read showed the tag affixed to a black Jeep SUV.
After receiving this alert, I completed a U-turn and got behind the black Jeep SUV and it began to travel
eastbound on I-20. I had communication complete a check of GA tag RLK 1803. Communications
advised me the tag in question was indeed registered to a Hyundai Sonata. At this time, I attempted to
initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle began to exit I-20 East at Glenwood Avenue. As the
vehicle came up to the top of the exit ramp, the driver failed to bring the vehicle to a stop. The driver,
who was later identified as Mr. Derrick Alexander initiated a vehicle pursuit. He made an improper left
turn onto Glenwood Avenue and began to accelerate the vehicle at an excessive speed. Alexander
began to drive on the wrong side of the roadway in the direction of oncoming traffic narrowly avoiding a
head-on crash with another motorist.
Alexander made a left turn onto Wilkinson Drive and continued to flee. Alexander showed no regard
for the general public as he continued to flee. This area has also has a lot of pedestrians and can be
heavily populated because there is a park. Alexander continued fleeing in a very reckless manner at
excessive speeds. He was traveling at such speeds that as he struck the speeds humps in the area,
the vehicle would go airborne after striking them. The pursuit continued north on Wilkinson Drive and as Alexander approached the intersection of
Wilkinson Drive and Memorial Drive, he failed to stop at the red light and began to flee east Memorial
Drive. Alexander then made and left turn onto Dearborn Street and then a right turn onto Bixby Street.
As Alexander made a left turn from Bixby Street on Warren Street, he failed to stop at a posted stop
sign. Alexander continued to flee and made a left turn onto Hosea L Williams drive from Warren Street.
While doing so, he failed to stop at a red light. Alexander continued to flee at excessive speeds while
he fled west on Hosea L Williams Drive. While on Hosea L Williams Drive, he was driving on the wrong
side of the roadway in the direction of oncoming motorists.
Alexander continued for several miles to drive in a very reckless manner. The pursuit continued for
several miles through several residential and city streets with Alexander driving with a total disregard to
the safety of the general and the motoring public. As the pursuit continued and Alexander became
more reckless. At the intersection of Hosea L Williams Drive and Warren Street, I had an opportunity
to end the pursuit by performing a Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T. Maneuver). This
technique was successful, but Alexander was able to recover, and he continued to flee. Alexander
continued to flee through several more residential and city streets and eventually, he made his way
back to the interstate. Alexander entered on I-20 west and continued to flee at excessive speeds while
weaving in and out of other motorists. Alexander attempted to exit I-20 west at Moreland Avenue. As
he came to the top of the exit ramp, traffic was extremely heavy. Tpr George 11 was at the top of the
ramp on Moreland Avenue waiting on us to assist. Tpr George utilized his patrol car and made contact
with the vehicle Alexander was fleeing in preventing it from further fleeing.
At this time, I exited my patrol and drew my service weapon, and pointed it in the direction of
Alexander. I began to give him verbal commands. Tpr. George also had Alexander at gunpoint. As he
held him at gunpoint, I assisted Alexander out of the vehicle. Once out of the vehicle, and on the
ground, I placed him in handcuffs. His person was searched, and he was then allowed to sit in the rear
seat of my patrol car.
It was discovered while on the scene that the vehicle Alexander had been previously reported stolen. It
was reported stolen with the City of Atlanta Police Department. The case number for the vehicle theft
was OCA/211840899 and the date of theft was 07/02/2021. It was also discovered the Alexander had
an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The date of the warrant was 07/19/2018 and the warrant number
was 12CR2443. The warrants were through the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
I completed some necessary paperwork while on the scene, prior to transporting Alexander to the
DeKalb County Jail. Once at the jail, he was turned over to the jail staff without incident.
Amazed at the minimal amount of collateral damage
I’m thinking about the heart attack the person in the silver car next to him probably had when he was finally stopped. You can see them inch forward a couple feet and nope out of that situation right away. And I don’t know how long the light was, but they sat and collected themselves a good minute too.
Saw at least 3 pedestrians that were at risk. Countless of drivers and passengers.
The cops should be allowed to “tenderize” people who run and endanger innocent lives!
I drove a Jeep Compass once. I'm surprised that pile held up after going over the bumps. Kudos to the LEOs for graciously helping him out of the vehicle in the gentle manner they did.

It’s all in the training they get in school. My best friend is a police officer 👮♂️ and is now also training the new guys. There trained to drive one handed when needed and the 10 and 2 o’clock position on the steering wheel.
IMO. Mandatory jail plus 5 years loss of license for this driving. It’s beyond driving recklessly. Thanks to the Officers for their efforts.
What liscense?
you really think no license will stop these hoodrats from driving?
See how many friends will be willing to ride you around for 5 years. Better hope he can get a job within bicycle riding range
With how fucked out system is, he will get probation or a year with revoked license. It just blows my mind that these type of cases will have nothing but a small case of having weed on you or something smaller could cause worst issues for someone else who otherwise is a great person in society
So when u run from the police and get caught that isn’t mandatory jail time already? Bruh are u dumb ???

Well, since I've never been to Georgia, and am not likely to go, that was an interesting way to see some absolutely beautiful old neighborhoods in Atlanta. Glad no one was hurt, there were way too many opportunities for lots of damage.
Obviously not this perp’s first time. Clearly he was well aware of how the officer needed to set up for a pit, and tried his best to avoid presenting a good target.
However, the officer’s driving was super tight and he got the job done, and relatively quickly too.
Of course it can be his first time. Going by your logic you would have needed to do this already as well. But why even think its that deep. After all you can learn all of this by watching CZcams videos. Hence you too know how an officer sets up for a pit. Doesn't mean he has done this before ...

Felony reckless driving for every intersection that he passes. Max penalty for each one served consecutively. That should help. Not wanted in society. Can't function in society. Remove from society.
Exactly 👍 👍
I want my PHONE though!
I wonder if the felon thought streets lined with speed bumps was a great tactic! The penalty for fleeing should be severe, and additional time for using residential streets! Incredible driving officer Youngblood and thank you to all the vehicles stopped at the lights!
EVERY State should adopt a law that if you flee from the police….Mandatory Minimum 5 year prison sentence…and with injury/death it becomes LIFE!! So tired of the stolen/carjacked vehicles and then they put innocent civilians lives at risk because of THEIR LACK OF REGARD FOR ANYONE ELSE!! "I fucked up man, I'm sorry!" No you aren't. You are just sorry that you got caught. These idiots never learn that a simple traffic ticket turns into a felony when they decide to run. I once ran down a kid half my age years ago after he made the mistake of turning into my apartment complex that had only one way in and one way out. That 20-something felt 200 pounds of me crashing him into the wall of the other building after I ran him down in slippers and being out of shape. He would have just gotten a ticket for no insurance, but instead went to jail to sit until Monday night (this happened on a Sunday afternoon) when he could first see a judge.

Very intense chase and kudos to Youngblood for his superb pursuit skill. There were two missed opportunities to put the chase to an end, especially when the Cherokee about hit the tree in a residential area, and Youngblood could have rammed him there and then.

The cop who had the camera on following this guy was an ace driver. Absolutely was on this guy perfectly. On the first pit maneuver, he may be could’ve stayed with a little bit longer. But that’s easy for me to say.

The idiot was going in circles...literally
First time I saw people walking down the street during a chase.
It happens more often than most people realize.
This is a good reminder to pay close attention always. Even when just taking a stroll in your “nice quiet neighborhood”.
One moment you can be just appreciating how gorgeous a day it is… and the next moment, someone can come sliding around a corner, completely out of control.
Most times the criminal doesn't go through neighborhoods.
Actually if it was ASP he would have got away they can't afford suspension work.😂😂
@bobinthewest8559 Right on! Too many folks stroll around in "condition white", zero awareness of what's going on around them. Head down staring at their phones or earbuds in and completely focused on their tunes.
Developing and maintaining even half-decent situational awareness keeps you out of a lot of problems. You'll spot potential problems before you walk up onto them, and you can act while you still have time to plan. That action could be as simple as making eye contact, telling a crew "This ain't no vic, we'll wait for the next one".
As a bonus, you pick up on a lot of amusing little by-plays that you'd miss otherwise.
