  • After a week in the Lake District I decided to stop off in the Yorkshire Dales at Bolton Abbey Caravan and Motorhome Club on my way home. Bolton Abbey is a 12th century priory ruin with walks and cafe all nearby situated on the River Wharf. It’s a popular spot for day trippers but the campsite is situated far enough away to avoid any hustle and bustle, but close enough for a scenic walk to see the Abbey and stop off at the cafe.
The ‘Valley of Desolation’ sounds dark and dramatic but in actual fact, it’s a pretty waterfall which is easily found not too far from the main Bolton Abbey car park by the river. Worth the walk to see this magical little place.
On the way, you’ll pass ‘The Strid’ which is another seemingly small waterfall where the River Wharf narrows to just a couple of meters in width. The waterfall looks small on the surface but the water below is deep and dangerous…. Be careful…. The rocks surrounding the Strid are a bit slippy!! 🤣

I was there a couple of months back. Great quiet site and walks from the van. 👍

Great video, thanks for sharing. Can I ask what is the make of your camera bag/rucksack and would you recommend it?

Hi.... thanks for watching. The camera backpack is a PGYTECH OneMo 2 (35L) and yes, I would definitely recommend. It's huge and loads of space for camera, lenses, drone, mics, filters and much much more. If anything, maybe a little too big for day-to-day walks.... great for packing all your kit to take on holiday/weekend away... but I could do with something a little less bulky for the day trips.

The Strid, one of the most dangerous rivers in the world, fall in chance of survival 0%

It is a weirdly unassuming 'little' waterfall and very pretty to look at but... an entire river being forced through a 2 meter gap into a 10 meter hole is going to take out even the strongest of swimmers! Approach with caution and try not to fall over like I did! 😂
