USA and most of Europe opted for right side driving due to horse driven carts of the past.
they used to have big carts pulled by 4 or 6 horses where cart driver sat in the front seat. mostly on top of the carriage and handle the reins in one hand and the whip in the other hand.
so since most men back then are right-handed (or forced to be), they sat on the left side corner of the front seat, holding reins in left hand and whip in right hand. easier to manage the whip while sitting in the left side.
now when passing other carts in opposite direction, the cart driver had to notice the safe distance between the two passing carts.
so it was found to be easier if they passed from the right because the left side sitting cart driver could easily bend outwards and observe the passing distance and adjust if needed.
it would not be easy to do this if he was sitting on the left side of the cart and driving on the left side of the road.
this is how right-side driving came into being and most countries followed the same even when horse carts gave way to Cars.

I think when vehicle is out of control coz of brake fail, it runs at maximum speed, that is why they keep it on left side. you are doing great job, zbar10,
When brakes fail shift immediately to lower gear and lower gear switch on warn signals and slowly pull to the safe side of the road till truck comes to low speed use hand brake and stop. Of course you are trained truck driver and will know how to handle emergency situations.

I think the run ramp on the left side is bcoz of the right turn on the highway and the left side is very steep. at this place, if someone has a break fail he has as only chance to go left. I am from Punjab Pakistan

In some places construction of a ramp on the left side is more feasible based on the topography of the terrain. If it is super cheap to make one on the left side, why not make one.
Yes great majority of the runaway ramps are on the right side. Some times, If there are already slow moving trucks occupying the right lane, and your truck is running away, left side ramp will help. my 2 cents...
