How the hell does he impersonate Julia Gillard perfectly while still looking and sounding exactly like John Clarke? Is it just the acting and speech rhythm? (Those camera glances are genius too).
I missed this one at the time it was current. But after 10+ years, I can still hear former PM Gillard's voice - clear and unmistakable, except that this time it's John Clarke speaking it. Executed to perfection.
John Clarke, even when not speaking, just has that unique, mischevious facial expression that almost takes me to the brink of cracking up. He's a freak!
I know Bryan Dawe had said that it was very difficult to keep a straight face when in a bit with John - very difficult indeed, I would say likely impossible.
He was just so good John Clarke. That take of Gillard was spot on. She was as obnoxious, hypocritical and deceitful as any blatant opportunist that ever sat in parliament. The Slater and Gordon slush fund affair didn't come from the bottom of a cornflakes packet. John Clarke was able to bring all that personality out in this skit. He was brilliant. RIP mate.

@sivssy There were failed assassination attempts on Hitler. BUT, the social resistance was so isolated and unorganised, so it really posed minimal threat to Nazism in Germany. But other parts of Europe under Nazi controlled had more organised and intricate groups that were resisting the Nazis, like the French Resistance, Italian Resistance and Polish underground State and yea.... :P

But opposition was not exactly eliminated. It is very hard to eliminate resistance. There were social groups who opposed Nazis in Germany. Like the catholic church and communist groups.
The Nazi party was able to manipulate the education systems, the economy, the military and the political system and to control the culture that the German people were exposed to. This level of control suggests that the Nazis were able to implement a completely Fascist regime in Germany, with minimal, or at least very weak, opposition.
