🥪 The "AI Sandwich" metaphor is useful for understanding when it is appropriate (and ethical) to use AI for research writing.
Steps to writing a lit review with AI:
1️⃣ Use AI to brainstorm lit review structures and develop an outline
- In this video, I use our Literature Review Outline Assistant tool to generate a preliminary outline after providing the research topic and problem statement.
2️⃣ Explore literature using an AI research tool like Elicit
- You can also use Scite (www.scite.ai) and Consensus (consensus.app) to identify literature
3️⃣ Locate a “seed” paper (e.g., systematic review or seminal article)
- Do this by filtering papers according to article type and starting with the highest level of evidence.
4️⃣ Explore citations and related articles using multiple search engines
5️⃣ Save and organize articles using your favorite reference management software
6️⃣ Extract and analyze literature data using an AI tool like Elicit
7️⃣ Write a draft (without AI!)
8️⃣ Obtain feedback using an AI tool like our very own Literature Synthesis Mentor
9️⃣ Revise
