  • The modern legal system is far from being perfect but is it broken? So, let's compare it with the old-fashioned justice system to get a surface-level understanding of where the modern system fails and what are the good qualities of the old-fashioned justice system.
Understanding the good and bads of both of these criminal justice systems will give you a clear perspective on both.

Good explanation. We can see what are the advantages and disadvantages of two systems

Thanks Tony. The idea of this episode isn't to make you agree with it; the idea is to make you think. We just assume that conceptually our justice system is perfect and the only problems are because of imperfect implementation. However, the intention is to point out that there are other ways of thinking about it and that even conceptually, it is possible that someone wants/needs something that our current justice system is not set up to provide.

Running for justice in a modern legal system for years is because of lack of infrastructure and employees of various levels in judiciary.
You should have also brought an academic of legal expertise who had teached was well read and worked with these things.

We're unlikely to do that, but here is some reading material for you:
Here's a review of a full book of Legal Systems Very Different From Our Own:

And here's a list of "fictional" legal systems which is intended to stretch your brain:

Some of these traditional systems of justice are well covered in the book Debt. There used to be a set amount of compensation for someone’s life depending on their stature in society. Some of the stuff in there was mind blowing.

Thanks @yannnk. Debt has so many interesting things to talk about; hopefully they'll all find their way in to future episodes.
