  • "Modern in the Making: Post-War Craft and Design in British Columbia" is the most comprehensive view of mid-century craft and design from this region assembled to date. Featuring over 300 works, the exhibition examines the furniture, ceramics, textiles, fashion and jewellery that defined West Coast modern living in the mid-twentieth century.
At the centre of the exhibition is a focused look at the collecting practices of public institutions and impassioned private individuals, whose work remains largely invisible to the public eye.
In this video interview, renowned Haida artist G̲uud San Glans Robert Davidson discusses the lasting effects of colonial collecting practices on Indigenous communities in British Columbia, as well his own artistic practice.
"Modern in the Making: Post-War Craft and Design in British Columbia" is on view at the Vancouver Art Gallery from July 18, 2020 to January 3, 2021. Find out more at bit.ly/34NVfTl. The exhibition catalogue is available at the Gallery Store.
Organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery and curated by Daina Augaitis, Chief Curator Emerita, Allan Collier, Guest Curator, and Stephanie Rebick, Associate Curator
