    Also, it may not be the comprehension or the amount of material. It could be those NCLEX style priority questions. I notice on most of my exams, there were questions my professor didn’t talk about in lecture or didn’t talk about in the book that it’s like you have to really really read the question carefully and pull out what you know. So these questions are not necessarily priority questions but you have to draw out and solve the problem base on what you know. I guess that make sense since nurses do that in real life as well. So the questions are a lot of what Sara said scenario based on you really have to know how to answer nclex questions and how to basically think like a nurse and like draw out and. Circle key words on the questions and apply concepts from patho and foundations into the exams in foundations

    I'm currently taking Fundementals I understand every answer could be correct but not the right fit for my particular patient, what are things I should look for to be sure I have the correct response? I know all the ranges for the v/s and characteristics of certain diseases but with so much information it's hard to know what to focus on.

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  Pƙed 7 lety +25

      Nursing fundamentals is where you are getting exposed to those tricky NCLEX style questions....which is what you are describing about all the options sounding good but what is the best for my patient? One thing is to look at the "ABCs"...airway, breathing, circulation and what is "most important" when thinking about what is going on with this patient's disease process. For instances, a patient with burns on the upper torso...you would prioritize airway over fluid status because although they can both happen to this patient, they are most at risk for airway problems from the swelling of the tissues due to the upper body burn. So, you would select the answer that has to deal with airway.
      I have a video where I discuss some of this and how to answer NCLEX questions: czcams.com/video/1nqTFYo4BGY/video.html
      It may help you with this.

    Hi! I just started an accelerated BSN program. I passed my first exam, but barely. I'd like to switch up my studying technique to be more effective and save time.
    I have the Mary Hogan book, the NCLEX review book and the giant Fundamentals book with the online code. Do you suggest skipping reading the giant book and focus more on the other resources? Reading the giant book is VERY time consuming and I don't know that it's helping me with the exams. I'm nervous to go without reading the giant book...it's what I've been used to doing in other undergrad course, but I know nursing school is very different.
    Any advice is helpful. Thanks in advance!! And thank you for the videos!!

      @RegisteredNurseRN  Pƙed 8 lety +17

      Hello Haley :) Thank you for watching my videos, and this is an excellent question because when I was a nursing student it was something I struggled with as well.
      You're right nursing school is a lot different that undergrad pre-req courses. I found that you are very limited on study time while in nursing school, and you have to be strategic in how you study.
      So, this is what I done: I would take really good notes in class and print PowerPoints (if your professors uses them). Then I would using the Hogan book or Saunders NCLEX review guide and review what each of the books said about a particular disease or nursing process that was covered in class and in my teacher's lecture.
      I would pay attention to patient teaching, nursing priorities for that particular issue, important signs and symptoms, etc. Then I would compare the two resources to my notes I took in class, my teacher's PowerPoints, and then my GIANT textbook. If there were certain concepts being repeated over and over I knew that this was important information that would be on a test...hence the NCLEX. So, no I didn't read my textbook word for word but used it as a resource to skim over certain areas. However, if I had trouble grasping a certain concept I would read my textbook on that particular concept because it helped give me an in-depth understanding about the disease...which is something Hogan and Saunder doesn't do (they just break down the material to help you remember the highlights).
      I hope that advice helps, and I wish you the best!

    Hi Sara, In your web page, under "NCLEX Review"; in Fundamentals; there are 2 quizzes that do not have a lecture review, these are: "NCLEX practice test positioning patients", and " NCLEX practice questions quiz for nursing fundamentals Perioperative". Where can we find these lectures review??

    I recently changed my major to nursing . I'm very excited about it. I want to be an RN and now taking the prerequisites at a community school But, a lot of people are telling me that nursing is very hard and how it'll be better to start with the LPN first ( since I've completed all my prerequisites for the LPN ) then do the RN and I'm confused . Any tips?

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  Pƙed 8 lety +3

      +Natural Goddess Great question! I think either option is great. After you get your LPN you can go for your RN later. It depends on what you want to do and where you are in life right now, but going for your LPN first is a great idea. I don't know if you know this but there are RN programs where you can go for two years and obtain an ADN degree (instead of the 4 years of schooling which is the BSN....both lead to being a registered nurse). It is something to consider since you would already have to dedicate 1 year of schooling for the LPN and just another year would make you a RN. I would ask myself what your plans on for the future and go from there. I wish you the best :) -Sarah
