In this video I'm going to give my take on whether Amazon Games Studios should or shouldn't be charging for New World's first ever expansion 'Rise of The Angry Earth'.

Happy to buy the expansion based on the content it is showing. The price seems fair to me.

@@billlam7756 Yes it's purely cosmetic, but I feel like it takes away from the experience when everything cosmetic is on the cash shop. Also with instances where there's an inconvenience like the gearing system so they introduce gear sets but monetize the quality of life improvment is sleezy.

What's wrong with just making it paid with gold which is standard. Doesn't matter if most of the gear looks like ass, making it a token system is completely unfair.
Locking what is essentially a seasonal update, with core mechanics and less overall content than brimstone (which was free) behind a paywall that's nearly the price of the base game, is a surefire way to split the community and drive away returning players. Nobody is going to pay another $30 to get back a revamped zone they lost, access to mutations they lost, a basic weapon and a core game feature that has been requested since launch. They'll just play something else, likely for free.

You think the people making updates and adding new content shouldn’t get paid? Games thrive off of skins etc but with a lot of people buying the skins like csgo and rust. They have really good player numbers. New world get about 20-30k total players everyday. Peak 15k, but not everyone that actively plays new world is on at that time. We bought new world for what it’s worth. Got brimstone and other dungeons mutations for just buying the game. Anyone complaining about 30$ like asmongold said needs a reality check. Like just be happy it’s not a subscription every month game. Spectrum internet bill is literally 85$ a month like we sit here and pay companies ridiculous money and people cry about 30$…

New World I've played for 1658.6hrs and paid $69.95AU...that's a rate of just over 4 cents an hour of enjoyment I am receiving. $30 given the rebuild and content it's a barging given it's zero subscription.
One reservation, knowing that existing players will lose access to mutations unless they upgrade, so some content will be removed for people who don't buy. That doesn't seem right to me.
if it was at least $15 then i would consider, it doesnt have enough content to have a $30 price tag

And actually there are some leaks that confirm we will have much more than people expect.
30€ for an expansion is fine but its not nearly enough content to warrant the title "epxansion". no new zones,no actual raids, no PvP content (new OPR map)

It's not about not being able to pay 30 dollars. There are just a lot of people that are just against pay to win and if it goes pay to win they will just say F this game out I'm out. it's not about the price. It's not about them charging for the expansion even. It's about the principle. Why should I play this game when there are other games out there that aren't pay to win? And don't tell me access to 100 attribute points and 9 extra perks on your gear too via artifacts is not pay to win. It is such a high amount of pay to win that you can't ever be more than trash in the game and have any fun at the game whatsoever if you don't pay the $30. It's like the mafia thugs showing up at your door saying, "Hey, nice fun you got there playing that New World there. Be a shame if something happen to it."

It is reasonable at 30, given no contributions from us have been made in 2 years and development and ongoing costs do in the real world exist. Though, to get the playerbase back up I would like to see the overall game cost go, by that the original cost should be free to play to get more people back into the game and then say every 12 to 18 months a new expansion - paid for should be released.......

All of the stupid decisions they've made and continue to make just shows how people shouldn't pay for this shit. It's not even an "expansion" compared to other mmorpgs just a glorified patch.
The problem with the argument is that in WoW, even though it has box and subs - their game during launch was much better. NW has so many disappointing stuff, from bugs to unbalanced stuff and quality of life missing that should have already been there in the first place. Sure, you can argue all you want about NW being more cost saving and such but the bottom line is - Having the things that people wanted to be in the game and expected to be there in the first place - which led MAJORITY of the people to leave the game in the first place, then all of sudden, introduced those said things as a paid expansion and oh yes needing a higher spec requirement just to add salt to injury, really sounds like a rip-off at this point.
No one is arguing that NW can have an expansion that needs to be paid. People like me who pays game in either subs or box understand that a company needs to earn. What people are pissed off is that the way AGS/NW went with it. They should just have made this expansion free since it has CORE SYSTEMS on it which should have been in the game in the first place. Then after that we can can talk about paid expansion. What AGS did right now is they alienated those who where just waiting to see the sincerity of AGS to first fix the game properly and providing the quality of life that should have been there in the first place. But they failed. Hard.
Seriously, why not actually expanded the map, create a new zone where only 65 level players can come in where the artifact feature and 700 gear score gears can be dropped and unlocked. Put in the new zone new monsters and quests and the new dungeon then boom lock it in a DLC zone. Just let people level to 65 and have them get the mounts. It's a reward for those who played this game for 2 years.
This is not my sentiments that I will say, but a couple of my friends who actually bought season pass and costumes just to support the game are quitting and most I know in IRL and in game after they found out that the expansion with the quality of life and the flail will be lock on a paid wall. I understand their reason and yeah they can buy the expansion no problem, but they also know in the long run it won't attract new players anymore.
There's a reason why GW2 is popular, BDO has a resurgence and PoE as well. AGS has just shown that the last 2 years, they've just used people to test their game. Yes for 2 years we all become game testers.
Anyway, I will still buy the expansion. I love the game so I will still continue to support it until the bitter end. I might not be able to play it as often now that majority of people I know are quitting after the announcement, already has quit or will not go back anymore because of the expansion announcement, but, at least I will try and support the devs - or rather the employees working on AGS. Hopefully their management wakes-up before it's too late.
Paying for the expansion is good it's a lot cheaper than paying for microtransactions wich can run into the hundreds or even thousands

Paying for this expansion will only encourage AGS to work harder than the past which is exactly what we need. I'll support a company that tries to accommodate the opinions/suggestions of their playerbase all day. Looking forward to this Fall!

@@blackshadown garentee pvp is going to give out end game gear along with the max mutation and season events. Plenty of ways to get max gear outside the expansion..
You are comparing subscription games that are worth their subscription price to new world which isn't even worth the 1 time purchase cost to most players that bought the game. They are not playing even without a subscription price tag they just don't find the game worth logging into even though they already own it. So adding another price tag just stops these players from wanting to log in even more.
Im sad, the expansion doesn't add any new endgame activities, just fixing what is broken and adding 1 dungeon and a mount I dont care about. I will pass on New World now after 4000 hours. Devs don't respect our time, playtesting and feedback if they are going to make us, the loyal remaining few pay for an expansion to continue the same content we have now but just with another gear grind. It's not about the $30 to me, I've paid for all the season passes, bought all the gear sets done all the content 1000 times but I was just hoping for something new to play or experience. I was hoping the expansion would consist of at least some of the following; First Light and 1 other new land to explore, company housing, hairdresser npc, name change option, another pvp mode or 2, a level 60-70 level increase with story/cutscenes, mutated arenas, mini games to play at inn or in home with friends, new instruments, new soundtrack or company vs company practice war mode but we got no new end game except 1 dungeon and a new gear grind. I'm all for the game being great but I will pass the torch off to others and come back in a year when there might actually be something new to do instead of the same dungeons and the 1 "massive" pvp mode (i dont care for 3v3).
The game is 40 bucks, plus there is no monthly fee to play. So why not, paying for an expansion for 30 bucks is reasonable

They could of added 4 new zones, 5 weapons, mounts, artifact, 3 new pvp outpost rush maps, territory rework along with 40000 shop coins and 5 free gear slot tokens for $30. People would still whine about having to pay.

Easy answer : YES , cause its their job to do so! Its not 1 game on arcade mode! Its an MMO with constant updatable content! Why is this so hard for new wannabe gamers/streamers to understand that? We have been paid NCSoft and Blizzard for 20 years straight 12$/month. So pay for the fvckin game!
I don't have a problem with paid expansion or the price (although I am not sure it's wise to monetize that way). What I have a problem with is that it's extremely Pay to Win having a bunch of character power locked behind a $30 pay wall. Also, I will NEVER play any game that has a mandatory subscription. I am strongly against that model. Also I think WoW is trash. It's why I play New World and not WoW, I am never going so don't ever give me WoW comparisons.
It is more than ok to support a game you like. People will always want stuff for free and people will always complain no matter what. They will grow up at some point and realize that a company needs to make money and that is the reason the game exists.
Amazon makes plenty of money. They put out a broke game and expect you to pay for them to fix it even though it was their fault from the start. Don’t be a sucker

I have already spent over 1.5k hours on the game and invested money into it. $30 is not bad, the people complaining don't seem dedicated to the games life span. Fair enough they have made us pay for transmog, skins, loadouts, etc. But devs need paying as it's their job, hopefully more money invested into the game can help them improve new world.
It's not a subscription model so I'm happy to pay for the expansion.

Having the expansions and DLCs being paid is a normal practice. I know that for the mommy's basement dwellers the fact that the game studios are businesses that need to pay salaries and bring profit will come as a huge surprise, but this is the reality in the world outside.
Anyone complaining about 30 dollar's is insane.. if you cant cough up 30 bucks you need to rethink your life. Anyone that played dragonflight for 2 months you wasted 100 dollars

Ive been buying the destiny 2 expansions, the deluxe version with the season passes, every year. This is a discount for the content 😂
I think the price of the expansion is fine but other parts of New World are bit too expensive. This includes the season pass, the transmog tokens and the base price of the game going forward. 20 Euros is on the pricey side when it comes to season passes and at the same time, it is a system that is a bit grindy and, honestly, boring. Then the transmog tokens: I guess that AGS looked at their skin prices and adjusted the token prices accordingly (slightly cheaper). However, I think that there would be a large section of the player base that would really enjoy collecting and unlocking large quantities of skins. With the current price (2 - 2.50 Euro per item), one has to be quite selective or spend a lot of money. Don't even get me started on their "free" option to get the tokens, might as well not exist. Finally, the base game price should be lowered so that there's a continuous flow of new players.

They could make more money off it, if it was free because they game would attract more players and they already have good stuff to buy in the store like transmog tokens and gear slots, and season passes, and they could add level boost which returning players would buy. But they are too dumb and want to try follow the WoW model which only WoW with its immense popularity can get away with and New World is a barely alive mmo. They are making the same mistake ESO did, when they tried to force a mandatory subscription on buyers and no one bought it. It was miserable failure.
If $30 for an MMORPG expansion is too much for you, you probably should stop playing computer games and try to change something in your life.
If they had advertised it all pre-launch then it should be free. As of now I think it’s fair.

First light is most underated area. Litterally nobody will stay there only few. So they not wrong to rework it. And expansion is not just about first light but alot the game system will changes.
I think you are lazy, or at least according to your answer. It can hardly be called a reskin of an old zone. It is a new zone, no one went to first light other than the fort for pvp. The new zone looks completely different from ANYWHERE else in the game. Completely new biome, new mobs and new story. Hardly a reskin. Not to mention the tons of other things coming with expac that you did not mention, such as mounts along with a new taming life skill, level increase, GS increase and rework, new weapon, crafting lvl increase and rework, massive perk changes, artifacts with quests to increase item power, world pvp rework, complete loot rework, mutation changes and more, some stuff that i am sure we don't even know about yet. They should charge for it, whether you think it should have been in the game at release or not. It wasn't, but now its coming, people worked hard on it and the game will be much better for it. One can argue that anything that makes a game better "should have been in the core game". New World was not an MMO under development, and was rushed from a survival multiplayer game to the MMO we play now. Was it released prematurely? Definitely, but we still played it despite the flaws. I for one, am just happy to see the devs taking the game in a good direction, improving the core systems of the game. As much as i want more pvp content personally, i think this expansion is necessary to turn the core of the game into a solid core from which they can then expand the game with lots of new content.

This is true and after thinking about how cheap the game is compared to others im a bit softer but this is pretty much a compulsory purchase for any lvl 60 due to how much existing content it also locks this is my main gripe @@nuvynavy999
