I always thought that the press totally trolled prince years before it became a thing when they started calling him the artist formerly known as prince.
Actually that was his idea. He changed his artist name to a hand drawn symbol with no verbal equivalent. So people just called him "the artist FORMERLY known as Prince" instead of flashing the symbol on the screen every time they wanted to say his name.

I loved these interviews back in the old days when music television played music videos. I had always hoped they'd become a regular feature.
