He's a stoner, has no job, lives rent-free in his house, said that he'll be a stay-at-home dad and mooch off the government, he said Obama Care was the greatest thing ever, he also seems to be holding Haley back at times (?)
Stan does love his daughter and does wish Haley can do better and Jeff is that obstacle.

Nothing they do is criminal, sinful or illegal (with the exceptions of possibly going overboard with environmentalism and the weed issue)

@@SilverScribe85 Usually it's because conservatives find hippies to be hypocrites and entitled bums. A lot of hippies love going on long rants about how any kind of authority over them is "bullying", or that the Government is evil; yet expect that same authority to provide services to them for free because they technically live under the poverty line. For all the talk about loving the Earth, they do a lot of ecological damage through protests and concerts where they leave a massive amount of trash behind. On the same token of protests, a lot of the time hippies have absolutely no idea what they are talking about but since they feel like they have a moral high ground they are justified in acting like a bunch of spoiled children (see Just Stop Oil protestors if you need some clarification); and seem to think that the world can just pump the brakes on whatever they are using as an excuse to not get a job and contribute to their household.
While there are most definitely conservatives that hate hippies on a purely ideological basis, because ideology lines will always be here sadly. However I've found those to be few and far between personally, most conservatives I know don't like hippies for the reasons I stated above. Hope this helped make it a little clearer :).

In community college, the price on the box isn't what you actually pay. most times, especially for young folks, you can subsidize most of it. I paid all together... $400-$600 bucks in tuition over the course of 3 years

See the whole thing with Hailey being so incapable of looking after herself to such a degree she doesn't know how to cook baffles me, when they had a whole episode dedicated to a pie contest and it turned out she was secretly Carlotta Montaray (or however you spell it) a baking master or some shiz that even Francine idolised...or wanted to replace.
If it was a one off joke then fair enough, but it was the plot of an entire episode. So we know that she at least knows how to cook, so it always baffles me when the writers write her as this incompitent when we know she's not...yeah i know i definitely gave it way too much thought.
To be fair baking and cooking are different. I know a lot of people who are really talented at one but not the other
It's one of the drawbacks of having a series run as long as American Dad, as with Family Guy, and more infamously The Simpsons. Characters have to break established traits in order to suit the plot.

Her entire ideology is centered around helping others and progressing society to something better. Stan's ideology centers around conserving the current system no matter how flawed, and that is why Stan is fundamentally wrong in his beliefs.
Jeff is genuinely a pain in the butt. However in some episodes of the writers amp up his terrible behavior.

I have a personal theory:
While there are other extenuating factors (Like overprotective father issues) I believe the ethos of Stan's hatred of Jeff is that he's a completely free spirit. Whereas Stan himself has so many absurd levels of repression that he lashes out at Jeff so vehemently. This theory is only further shown when Stan lessens (but doesn't necessarily get rid of) his hate on Jeff, the more he lets go of his repression issues (refer to stuff like sexual repression in that one episode).
Most of those benefits you mentioned available to poor people are not accessible to poor people working full time..
For a single person without kids, the income limit for SNAP, Gov Health Insurance eligibility, etc. is insanely low, at least in my state.
in order to receive food stamps in the state of Ohio, I have to make next to nothing in terms of income. Making more than $1200 a month makes you ineligible for Medicaid :-(
Food banks are helpful though! I just wanted to clarify how and why so many of these programs meant to help people are crazily inaccessible to most poor people.

I feel like Jeff worked better when he was just a recurring character and not a main one. It's the same reason Leo from 'That 70's Show' worked. The writers realised a character who's constantly blitzed, directionless, and prone to non-sequitor outbursts works best when they're not in the story as much.

I see, Stan and Jeff’s relationship sort of like Squidward and SpongeBob’s relationship like Squidward Stan might not like Jeff for being annoying, but will have his back and like SpongeBob Jeff views Stan as a friend and help him, but call out Stan when enough is enough. Like Squidward there are sometimes where Stan does have a good reason to be annoyed at Jeff. Except Stan doesn’t hate Jeff with a burning passion, enjoys the company of others, is usually well intentioned, and does eventually change his mind about Jeff. Hayley and Jeff’s relationship is sort of like Sandy and SpongeBob’s relationship.
Some have compared Spongebob and Squidward to Dennis and Mr Wilson.

Stan sees in Jeff a way that he sees his younger self, when he wants to have some quality time with his father. Who wasn’t much of a good dad to him, there are some scenes where he tries to do better to Jeff.

I mean he’s kinda right about Jeff for the majority of the time he can’t even help haley at all as a partner I mean if at the time he could afford to smoke as much as he was doing he should have had some source of income to help his significant other to pay for her university. Hmmm it's def gotta be freight train cause say what you will about Francis but he cared enough about Peter to raise him as his own and while jack was a deadbeat criminal at least later in his life he realised how badly he took Stan for granted and made an attempt to be on better terms with him but freight train just belittles Cleveland at every chance he gets shows no love for his son and on several occasions cheated on his wife and Clevelands mother cookie

A friend of mine was living in his car and he ate pretty good. All he did was go to a Dunkin’ Donuts when they closed and he got all the donuts from that day or he went to any restaurant that had take out and see if they had abandoned orders.

Not at all the point of this video but I love Roger and Steve’s B Plot in this episode. The scene where they drive past Klaus in the Ferrari and Klaus’ reaction to it is one of my favorite moments in the series.

You mentioned there are programs for people in poverty to assist them in getting out of poverty, the two you mentioned were SNAP (food stamps) and Section 8. I happen to have a degree in public administration (urban development) so I thought I would provide a PSA both of these programs are what is called means-tested I.E. applicants must meet certain disability or income requirements in order to qualify. Speaking of SNAP those requirements vary from state to state county to county. Focusing on Section 8 housing vouchers this is a federal program so there is less variance however in 2022 the latest year I have data only a quarter of the applicants who qualify for the program received benefits. I'm going to repeat that only 1/4 of the people whom the federal government says deserve housing subsidies receive a said subsidy, it's that underfunded; that's before we get into issues of landlords even accepting housing vouchers. putting all that aside Hailey wouldn't qualify for either SNAP or Section 8 in any state as she is a full-time student this is classified as fully employed by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics and the Census Bureau she and she has no history of disability. Further Hailey is an extensive marijuana user which further disqualifies her from receiving federal resources as marijuana remains federally illegal.

Your job + college experience was lucky. My jobs took a ‘company first’ mentality. Barely had time to do the post school school stuff. So, I’m happy for you, and I know other people have gotten it done. Tho I think burning out is the more common experience

I haven’t gotten through the whole video but wanted to make a comment on a specific point you made. It’s about moving out whilst being in education full time. It really depends on the person. It is incredibly hard and you may have been able to do it but that doesn’t mean it should be the norm. I wish I had a family who said I could move back and who had the money to help me but I didn’t. I moved out and was alone in a different part of the country. I starved a lot of the time because due to my course I had no time to work. You said “it’s doable if you’re motivated enough” but I disagree. I think it really depends on the situation. For example my degree required a lot of work after hours whilst writing essays. This meant that all my time was taken up by my degree. I’m also neurodivergent which made it quite hard. I’m the end I ended up dropping out because I lost all passion for my course as I was starving most of the time, lonely, poor, and my mental health went down the drain. Currently I’m still struggling to make a living. Idk I just feel like that specific point wasn’t very thought through. Again it’s great you managed to do it but you don’t represent everyone

personally, I really hated that they brought jeff back (sorta), I feel it completely undid the emotional growth of his space arc.

jeff has a lot of bad qualities but so does the rest of the family stan left his family after he failed a negotiate with a car dealer causing his family to live on hard times doing "things" to earn money Francine coddles steve to the point of an Oedipus complex hailey doesn't bother to graduate college she stays there having a few credits missing from graduating so she doesn't have to move out.

On the bright side, at least Jeff seems to be a better man than Meathead, in the "All In The Family" spin-off; he leaves Gloria and their son for a flower child. Hopefully Gloria moves on with Lionel Jefferson. He divorced Jenny in the later "Jefferson" seasons...making that earlier Christmas episode so depressing...Rerun babies rise up!
