    Mr. Grayson is amazing he helped me complete my X Bar / R Bar Assignment and it looks professional and organized. He also showed me how to make models for both of them using line graphs. This made my assignment 100% easier and more precise because I did not manually complete my calculations, excel did them for me.

    If something is greyed out it typically means there is an editing process happening with a cell. Make sure no cells are being edited. Then, highlight a range of cells for the chart and insert | chart | line and it should work.

    To make a cell a fixed reference you can highlight the cell in a formula and then use the F4 key to put the $ sign in front of both the row and column reference, for example $C$4, and this would make the cell C4 a fixed reference.

    Sir first I would like to thank you for such a clear and easily understandable video. My question is the constant values of A2, D3, D4 are taken from a table. I have gone through the Internet in that table based on the Sample size the constant value varies. In this video the sample size is 10 but in the table the values for sample size 10 is different whereas the sample size for 5 the values are matching with the video. Please clear this doubt.

      so many more knowledge to learn, the course i am studying is called operation management, I discovered that the instructor give us many formulas and told us to apply in questions, and never told us how are the formulas derived. Our instructor may be right, deriving those formulas may need advance knowledge of probability, which belongs to Mathematics field. However, learning is fun. It is just too much to learn. One could never know everything in his whole life. I feel so sad for that.

    It is the number of observations (horizontal) for each row .. that will tell us the average of xbar and R (vertical)

  • @statguy53
    @statguy53  Před 11 lety

    The plotted statistic is the mean (x -bar). The control limits, typically called 3 sigma control limits, are +/- 3 standard deviations of the statistic, or +/- 3 standard errors in this case from the center line. The limits can be set at any multiple of the "standard deviation" from the center line with the decision trade off of time to detect a shift versus the likelihood of a false alarm.

    Mr. Crayson:
    Observations 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are, individually, "Rational Subgroups". It is, therefore, necessary to calculate X-bar of each subgroups, i.e., X-bar for Obs 01, X-bar for Obs 02, ..., X-bar for Obs 05, not the way you did it moving horizontally, but vertically, because there might quite likely be a change in the 5M and 1P in each observation. For example, are there the same (1) People, (2) Machine, (3) Mother Nature, (4) Method, (5) Material, (6) Measurement in each observations.
    If a Special Cause variation is observed, how will you be able to tell which observation it came from, if you calculate your X-bar horizontally across all observations? Not possible, is it?
    Within each observation, each X-bar and R are individual Bell-Curves with the X-bar being the center of the process for that observation and the R being the dispersion or spread of the Bell-Curve for that observation. However, what you did was essentially conflate the data points for these observations.
    UPDATE: I READ BELOW THAT THE SAMPLES ARE HOMOGENEOUS which answers why you calculated the X-bar the way you did. However, it doesn't seem to be good practice to do it that way.

    When you have a large amount of data and it is not reasonable to obtain every data point you might want to take a sample of 5 to 10. If you can physically and affordably look at every data point then that is fine. And there are charts for individuals data. Of course, if looking at every point you might run into other issues of correlation between points (more of a time series). Traditional SPC assumes independence between samples.
