I was brought up in "church" confirmed baptised, a member for 17 yrs after I got married, then at the age of 40 I heard the gospel from one of my customers for the first time, most churches dont preach the gospel, the just hold religious meetings weekly, no one ever told me I had to be born again, but that day I was born again, what a glorious day that was, church can't save you only Jesus can.

@Austin Brown who knows, I was a child, but I was baptised again when I was born again, in the name of Jesus when I was born again, that was also 30 yrs ago, point is we come into the family by birth, not church membership.

@D Richardson Doug here is corrupting the image of God because of his own imaginings. I am not Catholic. I don't believe we all deserve hell because it's something a man told me. I believe it because it is what God's word tells us. I'm not sure why you are going off on some tangent about justified murder. The Catholic religion is demonic, no question about it. Believing your own opinion about how people are saved instead of believing God's word is not scripturally sound.

I read in a book about the life of Colombus, that one day, when he did one of his many landings in the southern coast of Cuba, there he found an Indian tribe, and its chieftain, an old and respectable man, told him he believed that after death, there were 2 places people would go to, the one a paradise where the ones who behaved righteously go to, and the other a dark place where the ones who bahaved in an unrighteous manner go to. That "we must do good in order to go to Paradise". Colombus was amazed at how much this old chieftain's belief resembled his own Christian belief. These Indians, like the GREAT MAJORITY of the inhabitants of the ancient World, did not have a Bible, and yet many people behaved righteously, because the Holy Spirit would move the hearts that were receptive to Him!! No one will have excuse in the day of the Great Trial, says Paul in Romans chapter 1, God will judge us according to the Light we have received. We must NEVER underestimate the Work the Holy Spirit can do in the hearts of people. To those who know more, more stripes will be given, said our Lord and Saviour in the book of Luke. I have read a lot of ancient history, and I am always amazed at how many good people there were in Ancient Greece and Rome, people who never heard about the True God, mainly because the Jews did not accomplish the work of spreading the Gospel to all the World, but kept it for themselves instead!! No my brethren, you did not have to live in Palestine to be saved, God has no bounderies!! Blessed be our God and Saviour!! AMEN!!

I think its a great way to participate in a biblical tradition to show commitment to faith. I also believe it can strengthen the relationship between us and Jesus. Been a real beleiver for only a couple weeks now. Still need to find a church! But I want to! I've been baptized by the Holy Spirit. Traditional baptism is more questionable, but I beleive Jesus meant baptism with the Holy Spirit. I still disagree that traditional water baptism by man is necessary. Not all saved people speak in tongues man! We can never live a holy, pure, and rightcheous life. Impossible. We should strive for it, we have to fight the flesh. We should feel guilty for all sin. Are you saying you need the points you mentioned for salvation?

@Austin Brown with all due respect man, I will never do that! I don't believe in denominational churches. I am a follower of Jesus Christ, not a derivative church. Denominations and organized religion is what turned me away from Jesus in the first place. My salvation is found in my repentance and faith in Him. Period. I will seek a baptism in the name of Jesus. Because it is a beautiful thing nonetheless. But I've already been saved man. I don't need to be dipped in water to know that. Thank you for your concern brother.

In Matthew 25:31-46 "works" in these texts reveal what kind of faith they had--either genuine (saving) faith or useless, empty, dead faith (James --2:18---20). The reason I take this position is clearly found in the text itself. Verses 32 and 33 in Matthew 25 clearly state that when Christ has gathered all nations for judgment, he "shall separate them one from another , as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats (verse 32), he (Christ) shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left" (see verse 32,33). . This clearly shows that the judgment has already taken place as to the eternal destiny or spiritual separation of the sheep and the goats--according to whether or not they believed by grace through faith in Christ (His perfect righteousness and finished work of redemption--death and resurrection (see Romans 10:9-10) or, like many today, trusted in their own filthy rags of unrighteousness (Isaiah 64:6). . Does scripture (scripture interprets scripture) confirm that. Absolutely! Read John --10:26-- (Jesus speaking to unbelieving Jews): "But you believe not, because you are not of my sheep". "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish...." (John --10:27---28). Clearly the sheep are the redeemed and their eternal destiny has already been determined, as Christ's words in John --10:28--: "And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish...emphatically state. Again, verse 46 in the same context of Matthew 25 confirms the same truth: "And these (referring to the goats on the left (compare verse 33) shall go away into everlasting punishment". Clearly these verses show emphatically and unequivocally that the judgment in Matthew 25 involving the eternal separation of the sheep and the goats--the redeemed or sheep on the right and the spiritually lost or goats on the left---has already been determined in verses 32 and 33, and in verses 34 to 46 that follow Jesus is merely establishing how that eternal separation was determined--- the basis of separation of the sheep on the right from the goats on the left was "works" as a indicator of genuine or saving faith. The rest of scripture, which cannot contradict itself, especially the Pauline Epistles, confirms same. As the apostle Paul makes perfectly clear in Romans regarding the way of salvation--the way of faith or righteousness--through the promise God made to Abraham (the father of believers): "Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness" (Romans 4:3). "Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace" (Romans 4:16) and again, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). And again, "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1). That verse, by the way, was illuminated to my heart (and understanding) by the Holy Spirit, who convicted me of sin and of judgment to come over 35 years ago in a small coastal settlement in Labrador (John 16:8), gave me spiritual life in regeneration or new birth (not water baptism, which can only wash away the dirt on your skin, but cannot wash away the dirt (sin) from your heart ) and drew me to Christ in genuine repentance and faith for salvation (Romans 10: 9-10; John 1:12-13; Acts 16:31). God bless.

@N P They believed in the promise to come .. Jesus .
Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness” (Romans 4:3). Again, Paul quotes the Old Testament to prove his point-Genesis 15:6, this time. Abraham could not have been saved by keeping the Law, because he lived over 400 years before the Law was given!
Paul then shows that David was also saved by faith (Romans 4:6-8, quoting Psalm 32:1-2). Paul continues to establish that the Old Testament way of salvation was through faith alone. In Romans 4:23-24 he writes, “The words ‘it was credited to him’ were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness-for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.” In other words, righteousness is “credited” or given to those who have faith in God-Abraham, David, and we all share the same way of salvation.
In the Old Testament, it was faith in the promise that God would send a Savior someday. Those who lived in the time of the Old Testament looked forward to the Messiah and believed God’s promise of the coming Servant of the Lord (Isaiah 53). Those who exercised such faith were saved. Today we look back on the life, death, and resurrection of the Savior and are saved by faith in Jesus Christ’s atonement for our sins (Romans 10:9-10).
The gospel is not an exclusively New Testament message. The Old Testament contained it as well: “The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: ‘All nations will be blessed through you.’ So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith” (Galatians 3:8-9, quoting Genesis 12:3).
As early as Genesis 3:15, we see the promise of a coming Savior, and throughout the Old Testament there are hundreds of promises that the Messiah would “save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21; cf. Isaiah 53:5-6). Job’sfaith was in the fact that he knew that his “Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth” (Job 19:25). Clearly, Old Testament saints were aware of the promised Redeemer, and they were saved by faith in that Savior, the same way people are saved today. There is no other way. Jesus is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:11-12, quoting Psalm 118:22).

I'm a little troubled by the question. Can a non-Christian be saved? The term Christian was first mentioned in the book of Acts however, the same New Testament said the gospel was also preached to the world of old but, because they did not believe they persished. If we confess Christ in the Old Testament, why should we assume that Christ was never preached? David in Psalm 22 spoke of the prohetic character of Christ through Inspiration. We can agree he was a follower of Christ. When he wrote Psalm 5, he was seeking forgiveness for his sins from Christ, yet Christ had not yet been manifested in the flesh. What was David if he had not yet known the term "Christian"? It is true that all will be judged based on the light they received. According to John 1:9, that light is the light that came to this world and lighted all men. The light was always there but, it was confirmed by the manifestation of Christ according to the flesh. If God created light in the beginning then, he was always that Light that reached the hearts and land of the heathen. Where men do not tread, God always sends his angels to do the work. When he doesn't see a reason to use his angels in a particular task, he does the work of preaching and teaching Himself. King Nebuchadnezzar recognized the form of one who looked like the Son of God in the fiery furnace. What was he? The term Christian again does not exist at that time as yet either. He was a heathen king yet, he recognized Christ. Therefore, all who believed and knew the light that came from the Spirit of Christ, and those who have come to the knowledge of his saving grace will be saved. The term is misleading because Revelation doesn't say all Chistians will be saved. It says, those who follow the Lamb wherever He goes will be saved. The term "Christian" is is what is causing the problem because it is relegated to Western thought patterns. It must be seen in the context of True Light in the Old Testament as well as the New Testament. Men and women in the old world who came to light, and those in this Generation received and receives light only in Christ therefore, if that light is rejected they have rejected and are rejecting Christ; in this case they are lost eternally. In Acts 17 the "Unknown God" referred to by Paul to the Ephesians was universally understood to be referring to the Creator of Heaven and Earth; thus is why Paul used the opportunity to teach greater light. In addition, who was Cornelius serving before meeting Peter and understanding the truth with still yet greater light? How about before he first hearing the term Christian? He was worshipping Christ. How about Moses and Job, what were they? How about the Moabitess Ruth? How was she able to recognize that the God of Naomi was the true God? She came from a nation of serious idol worshippers. Her joining Naomi's family only matured that Light, which was Christ, that began in her as a child. Where did her Light come from? How was she able to separate light from darkness.

In the doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the terms “saved” and “salvation” have various meanings. As used in Romans 10:9-10, the words “saved” and “salvation” signify a covenant relationship with Jesus Christ. Through this covenant relationship, followers of Christ are assured salvation from the eternal consequences of sin if they are obedient. “Salvation” and “saved” are also used in the scriptures in other contexts with several different meanings.
If someone were to ask if another person had been saved, the answer would depend on the sense in which the word is used. The answer might be “Yes” or perhaps it might be “Yes, but with conditions.” The following explanations outline six different meanings of the word salvation.
Salvation from Physical Death. All people eventually die. But through the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, all people will be resurrected-saved from physical death. Paul testified, “As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:22). In this sense, everyone is saved, regardless of choices made during this life. This is a free gift from the Savior to all human beings.
Salvation from Sin. To be cleansed from sin through the Savior’s Atonement, an individual must exercise faith in Jesus Christ, repent, be baptized, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (see Acts 2:37-38). Those who have been baptized and have received the Holy Ghost through the proper priesthood authority have been conditionally saved from sin. In this sense, salvation is conditional, depending on an individual’s continuing in faithfulness, or enduring to the end in keeping the commandments of God (see 2 Peter 2:20-22).
Individuals cannot be saved in their sins; they cannot receive unconditional salvation simply by declaring a belief in Christ with the understanding that they will inevitably commit sins throughout the rest of their lives (see Alma 11:36-37). However, through the grace of God, all can be saved from their sins (see 2 Nephi 25:23; Helaman 5:10-11) as they repent and follow Jesus Christ.
Being Born Again. The principle of spiritual rebirth appears frequently in the scriptures. The New Testament contains Jesus’s teaching that everyone must be “born again” and that those who are not “born of water and of the Spirit … cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). This teaching is affirmed in the Book of Mormon: “All mankind, yea, men and women, all nations, kindreds, tongues and people, must be born again; yea, born of God, changed from their carnal and fallen state, to a state of righteousness, being redeemed of God, becoming his sons and daughters; and thus they become new creatures; and unless they do this, they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God” (Mosiah 27:25-26).
This rebirth occurs as individuals are baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. It comes as a result of a willingness “to enter into a covenant with our God to do his will, and to be obedient to his commandments in all things that he shall command us, all the remainder of our days” (Mosiah 5:5). Through this process, their “hearts are changed through faith on his name; therefore, [they] are born of him” (Mosiah 5:7). All who have truly repented, been baptized, have received the gift of the Holy Ghost, have made the covenant to take upon themselves the name of Jesus Christ, and have felt His influence in their lives, can say that they have been born again. That rebirth can be renewed each Sabbath when they partake of the sacrament.
Salvation from Ignorance. Many people live in a state of darkness, not knowing the light of the restored gospel. They are “only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it” (Doctrine and Covenants 123:12). Those who have a knowledge of God the Father, Jesus Christ, the purpose of life, the plan of salvation, and their eternal potential are saved from this condition. They follow the Savior, who declared, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12).
Salvation from the Second Death. The scriptures sometimes speak of salvation from the second death. The second death is the final spiritual death-being cut off from righteousness and denied a place in any kingdom of glory (see Alma 12:32; Doctrine and Covenants 88:24). This second death will not come until the Final Judgment, and it will come to only a few (see Doctrine and Covenants 76:31-37). Almost every person who has ever lived on the earth is assured salvation from the second death (see Doctrine and Covenants 76:40-45).
Eternal Life, or Exaltation. In the scriptures, the words saved and salvation often refer to eternal life, or exaltation (see Abraham 2:11). Eternal life is to know Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and dwell with Them forever-to inherit a place in the highest degree of the celestial kingdom (see John 17:3; Doctrine and Covenants 131:1-4; 132:21-24). This exaltation requires that men receive the Melchizedek Priesthood, and that all Church members make and keep sacred covenants in the temple, including the covenant of eternal marriage. If the word salvation is used in this sense, no one is saved in mortality. That glorious gift comes only after the Final Judgment.

So using this logic it doesn't pay to preach the gospel because if it's heard it may be rejected.
