A number of airlines put economy on the upper deck. Air France, China Airlines, British Airways, South African, Swiss Air, Ansett, JAL... Didn't want First Class to have to climb stairs, and it's a smaller cabin, and you get disturbed by the flight deck traffic. First class gets the section forward of the front doors insteaed.

Oh yeah, one more issue, in the days before IFE with in-seat screens, the movie sucked on the upper deck. The aisle went down the center to the flight deck, so there wasn't a good place for a projector screen. You usually got a tiny narrowbody-style CRT above the aisle instead.

Yes that's what I thought, too. Why should the upper deck duty leave it unmonitored, she really made a point there! Sadly, in aviation, a lot of the so-called righteousness voiced by lesson-givers is nothing more than virtue signaling by inflated egos and a festival of manipulative personalities trying to serve themselves the best they can.

@@Bellasie1 I get the team work aspect while the service is running. But Upper Deck working alone, or with three on the 744, was tough enough, in particular with the Royalty on the flight deck 😉 And she did check with her colleagues. I suppose back then the PU was not integrated on a service position, and the really good ones rolled their sleeves up and dived behind that curtain to help. On one of my flights one PU locked himself up in the first class loo with a newspaper with the words: Call me when boarding is over! 🤣 Then sat in his ‘office’ doing Sudoku for hours on end. When I was promoted to PU, I made it clear that no job is below me, and my crews where happy to do any task I asked them politely to do. The LAVs near my station I kept tidy and stocked up myself. Or doing juice trays in Economy, and helping clearing meal trays in. Otherwise I would have been bored to death. And sitting on the flight deck and listen to the pilots talking endlessly about which roof tiles are the best or how the lawn mover was repaired or which how awesome the last golf round went - YAWN! Of course, not all were like that lol I am getting off the track here. So, safety was always paramount, and there had to be a crew member on the upper deck at all times. Seniority always had its perks.

It sounds childish because adults are usually not that candid. I'd say it's counterproductive, rather. It won't help her to expose she didn't agree but complied anyway, because in corporations, neither honesty nor reflection are truly valued, and obedience is as necessary as it is better applied as discreetly as possible, for fear to be deemed as lacking leadership.

What's missed here is above serving the 47 passengers their five courses in the First Class sleeperettes, which admin thinks must be sleep-ing, Marsha has to go serve booze to the 100 Clipper Seats now, and then a second round of coffee to the main cabin? I think it would be the equivalent of, having to run inventory at a department store, while the store is open. Unfinishable and thankless. Lessons from history, that austerity gets us nowhere. Meanwhile those two, stack dishes in the galley and gossip while the Purser forgets to eat again amidst paperwork checks. What ever happened to, if you don't look good, we don't look good, or vice-versa?

Trivia Byte: The guy who played the Gay traffic controller in "Airplane" was NOT acting (Gasps.) And, he Died of The Plague in 1985-even before Rock Hudson.
One of the first recognized non-Celebrity Deaths from AIDS in America was a 39 yo Gay NYC Schoolteacher who liked to party on Fire Island. He presented in 1979, with weird infections, and Died on Christmas Eve, 1980. The first major case Cluster, on Both coasts, wasn't until June, 1981. There WERE a few scattered deaths way before that, including a St. Louis teenage boy, back in 1969! His tissues were frozen, and tested positive for HIV in 1987.
Older patients, on average, got sick much faster than younger ones. That's why Rock Hudson, Roy Cohn, Liberace, and the head of Ultra-Conservative NCPAC (The Irony) Died in the mid-1980s, while the peak of AIDS Deaths was in 1995, just before the Drug Cocktails came out. They didn't get infected in the Early Seventies, because there were VERY few US cases back then.
If you're interested, I can tell you the most plausible theory of how that epidemic began in this Country. HINT: it wasn't Gay Swingers, or Heroin addicts (although they are certainly to blame for worsening it.)
