I like that canoe because it’s high enough to protect you from alligators or crocs somewhat and also bull shark infestation now even into waters that you wouldn’t think a bull shark would get into skinny water
I have the old style Royalex Old Town Pack canoe which is around 20 lbs lighter than this model although otherwise essentially the same boat. I've never attempted to load a dead deer into it but I'm going to suggest that you make sure your life insurance is paid up before you do. This boat was never designed to carry that much weight up forward and a decent sized buck plus your weight located just abit behind dead center is going to result in a pretty unwieldy canoe.
I have the same boat. Love it. Paddle with a kayak paddle. Recently added a nice motor mount and a 30lb MinnKota. Added an anchor trolley, rod holder and depth finder. Nice.
Great video! I found done of these used a few years ago for $700. I own a few canoes. This one instantly became my favourite and the one I use the most. It's so quick and easy to toss on the roof of my vehicle. I use it a ton for fishing locally, I've used it on camping trips. Great canoe!
Yes I'm excited you're excited let's go. I just got one too!
Well done!
What will you use yours for?
I've decided to go ahead and get me my dream canoe the Sportsman Discovery solo 119 and I can add the bracket/mount and add 30 lb. thrust troll motor for getting back up river after my 2 or 3 hour on ground adventure !! It's boat full of already built in features that I like right from the start but it's also a pricey investment that will last me a lifetime at 62 wanting to get on water for river and lake near my home within 5 min to 15 min. drive is all !!!
I have install an electric motor installed on mine I have an aluminium canoe mounted along the gunnels I bought it from us USA as I’am in Australia
I like to do a lot of research before I purchase a new piece of outdoor equipment. I've been torn between the nova craft trapper 12, and the old town discovery 119 for most of the summer. I have gone through all the specs on both, but there are not many reviews on the nova craft 12 (if any). But watching your in depth review on the old town, makes me comfortable going with the old town. I'm sure the nova craft 12 is a fine canoe but there isn't very much content, info, or user reviews on them, so lack of information steers me away. Thank for the good/in depth review, I look forward to my old town purchase this spring 😊.
I don't want to tell you what to do. I just know that the Old Town was correct for me and my budget. Nova Craft makes REALLY good canoes. They are probably superior to the modern Old Towns. If I was willing to pay more, I would have purchased a Nova Craft - I think it really depends on how much you plan on using it. Just my opinion.
"If I shoot a deer in a kayak" cracked me up. Sorry, but I had a Far Side type mind picture of that.
Ha, yep!
Hopefully I’m in a tree instead.
Thank you for your video! So, are you keeping the seat low like that or did you raise it up? I just got mine and was having a hard time getting knees comfortable but it was still tippy with the low setting. Have you paddled it with the seat higher? Thanks for any info!
Good review. Is this boat big enough for dog and enough gear for multiple day camping / fishing trip?
I purchased one 3+ years ago gave my kayak to my son and am really satisfied with the decision. I use it for fishing and camping and it is far superior to a kayak for these uses.
I have wanted one of these for years, just never get around to it. I have a sot kayak right now but I want this canoe for small streams.
They’re neat.
It handles just like my fishing kayak did with even better tracking.
The extra space is nice too.
Get it, you won't regret it.
Swift Canoes Prospector 14 - 27lbs.
Yuh, but you left out the part about price...bring an oxygen bottle when you go to their catalog just in case you pass out!
@@boatman222345 Agreed. We can only dream.
What if you got a trailer for the aluminum canoe?
I would probably have to raise the seat. That looks too low to get your feet and legs under.
I'm really interested in this model.
How do you like it so far?
I like it a lot. I'm comparing it to my kayak and it's much better (for my use) because of all the extra room and the high sides. It's nice knowing things won't fall out of the canoe. It glides almost too well across the water. I'll paddle a bit to change locations and I find myself moving too far and have to backtrack.
It may not be for everyone thought - this is my experience. It's hard to move around alone I think. Meaning, to carry it off the ground is hard, but dragging it works if needed.
I can’t believe the payload rating is so different from the sportsman
The side walls are an inch or two taller. Means it can sink into the water further without risk of water splashing over the top. Sportsman has shorter sides so can only displace so much water before a slight tilt starts letting water in.
How easy is this canoe to handle solo? With as putting up on a roof rack? Can you put a trolling motor on this short of a canoe?
I have this same boat it’s about 45-50 lbs and not too tough to get around by yourself on your shoulder. I throw it on top of a little sedan with foam blocks and tie it down. Have gone over 70 mph for hundreds of miles no problem 🤙
