I was in this video as an extra... I was 23 at the time (I am 53 now)...we had a blast making this video. It was filmed at the Buttonville Airport. It is so fun to look back and laugh about the big hair and cheesy videos but I still love the 80's and especially this video. It's a little time capsule for me...lol
mkeess1 looked like Nash The Slash sat up in the coffin scene there. Burned a few with him, back when weed was illegal. lol well we got the cops to finally tell less lie$.
My dad is the baseball player in the orange. PRETTY HILARIOUS! I was driving home from work today and heard this song on the radio and almost drove my car of the road!
My stepdad at the time, Jim Parry played the pilot in this video (at the 0:57 mark he shows up). He was a wonderful man, died tragically in May 2000. He was friends with the band and a bunch of others in this video. Those guys knew how to have a good time. :)
My sister dated a good friend of your dad’s! He was a news guy in CFNY. He got tix to the big New Year’s Eve show in 1984 or 1985 and my sister didn’t want to go (not a fan) and I ended up going! So awesome!
I love this video, it's hilarious! The thing I like about videos (and life in general) in the 80s is that they didn't take everything so seriously. Instead of worrying about being "cool", they were silly, which is why it's so fun.
Quintessential Canadian 80’s music. Other bands I think of when I think of the Spoons are cheesier Canadian 80’s bands like the Parachute Club and Martha and the Muffins.
In 1984, this lady made a Caitlin from Degrassi Jr High- sized whole in my heart maple syrup covered heart. That kind of sticky creater doesn't go away! And That pretty much dates my age but MAN I loved new wave music.. She was emblamatic. Of for my Canadian... pride. What a great song! Still. This song is so fucking Canadian!
THIS is One Band that many #CDNs had the HIGHEST #Hopes For! They have Such #INCREDIBLE Songs... And "Cute #Videos" too!!! Thanks for sharing... #ABSOLUTELY!!!!
Then I guess that I just met your Uncle :) They just played in my city at a festival called Pop Goes the City. He was really nice and FULL of energy! He put on a great show, they all did. I was told that EVERYONE was going to dress up like they did in the 80's but my friend and I were two of the only people who did. When he asked me if I dressed like that all the time, I felt a little foolish :P
My dad is in this vid!! :D He's the guy at 1:28 beside the pinochio dude!! & he's at 3:03 again!! thats my daddy!! :D lol My uncle is the lead singer of the band!!
Produced in 1984 by legendary Nile Rodgers co-founder of CHIC and producer of Bowie, Madonna, Duran Duran, Grace Jones, Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, INXS...
@gbthecoach OMG, not like i've seen this video alot. but when it used to play alot on Muchmusic & Video Hits back in the day, i didn't even noticed that was Nash The Slash! Good Eye!
This version of the song is great, different from the album version, wish I could find it but if I'm correct this version is exclusive to the music video?
It sounds to me like a shortened version of the 12" (extended) version that had Romantic Traffic on the back. The single version and the 12" version are nothing like what you hear on "Listen To The City" - that's a completely different recording which is pretty good in its own right, but less polished sounding.
The netting over the face seems to indicate that! Whoa! Know what's even more freaky? I came upon this video right after watching one by FM. Total coincidence.
Good day, I liked The Spoons back in the 1980's too! Yes great sound..never saw this video until now..it's pretty funny eh! everyone is lying!! HMM..... Why did they not do the video in QUEENS PARK instead??? HMM.... LOL :P I saw Nash The Slash get up out of that Egyptian coffin! hehe
2:10- sandy does the same head bob as she does on the "Spoons on Casby Awards 1985" . that happenes to be at 0:34 of that video. yeah i got nothing better to do...
This is probably my least favorite Spoons video ,it's pretty painful to watch it due to the excessive cheesiness factor ,it should have been on fromage '84 .

What were they like as people?
***** Cool.
+mkeess1 Some big 80s hair was bad, but I've always thought Gordon's and Sandy's hair was awesome!
+mkeess1 Right mite..it was all was a terrific buzz..and then sum
mkeess1 looked like Nash The Slash sat up in the coffin scene there. Burned a few with him, back when weed was illegal. lol well we got the cops to finally tell less lie$.
The 80's were the best time to grow up!!!
too good
They performed at my high school! That's no lie!!

Just missed seeming them yesterday in Peterborough for Canada Day. So bummed.
One of the first videos I remember watching on Toronto Rocks.
Musically and visually, this epitomizes the glorious decade that was the 80s.
What a look Sandy gives at 0:44! I just melt when i see her, she is so cute!
what a fun plane ride that must've been. great music!
Wow forgot about this tune ..80s were kool times...
Quintessential Canadian 80’s music. Other bands I think of when I think of the Spoons are cheesier Canadian 80’s bands like the Parachute Club and Martha and the Muffins.
Echo Beach is a fricking BOP. That bass line...

Hey I was right these guys are from my home town of Toronto Canada they were a great band and this was a great song.
They're from Burlington...
What a flashback this is!!
This video perfectly encapsulates everything about the 80's.
Just heard this song in 8-bit Christmas. I had completely forgotten about. It wasn't as over played as Emotions.
1:41 Nash the Slash!!!!
I love it; it's so 80's.
1:00 I have no idea why, but this was always my favourite part of the video. Sandy was cute and fun to look at, but this part always had me chuckling.
The video's got so many great gags but I love this cut too!
my best friend, her mom is from the spoons,
Sandy Horne
Really
RIP Nash the Slash. :(
That had to be the Toronto airport cause if you look really closely at the licence plate on the Cadillac it's Ontario license plates.

My uncle is the lead singer of the band!!
Gordon Depp Is Yr Uncle
Lol that was a TORONTO SUN newspaper that passenger was reading.
I noticed it had a few more lies than the other paper. 😁
so amazing this song.
Awesome song & video!!!!!
So new wave it hurts
@jmavlcko Tony Carlucci is on trumpet. I get to play with him a lot; he's a world-class player.
Produced in 1984 by legendary Nile Rodgers co-founder of CHIC and producer of Bowie, Madonna, Duran Duran, Grace Jones, Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, INXS...
I love this song and I like the video.
Laurie Mitchell Jones

Sandy Horne talented and hot.
Hell Yeah
LISTEN TO THE CITY is out on DVD now!!!!!
Cool
I think the guy at 0:25 was on the Pukka Orchestra video "Might as well be on Mars".
Love the big hair. It kind of reminds me of peacocks!!!
Live Earl from CFNY at 1:02!!!
Can you please post the original Old Emotions video? Thanks!
I had such a crush on the girl member
Sandy
Me 2
We ALL did!
Wow! How did the band tell Derrick apart from his brothers?
@gbthecoach OMG, not like i've seen this video alot. but when it used to play alot on Muchmusic & Video Hits back in the day, i didn't even noticed that was Nash The Slash! Good Eye!
Everyone was happy back then!! What's happened to this world?!?
guy at 2:46 looks like Neil Hope!
AH THE GOOD OLE DAYS MMM
This version of the song is great, different from the album version, wish I could find it but if I'm correct this version is exclusive to the music video?
haha, awesome!! :) thats funny!! lol! Yeah, they are a great band!
TELL NO LIES
I wonder if that DC-3 is still in service.
It might be, Buffalo Airways still have some.
Am I Seeing Things? Nash the Slash....

3:42 Nash the slash
Everyone was happy? No they weren't. Alot of videos just made it seem that way. BTW Is it just me or did that plane look fake?
The netting over the face seems to indicate that! Whoa!
Know what's even more freaky?
I came upon this video right after watching one by FM. Total coincidence.
Nash the Slash at 1:43
Good day,
I liked The Spoons back in the 1980's too!
Yes great sound..never saw this video until now..it's pretty funny eh! everyone is lying!!
HMM.....
Why did they not do the video in
QUEENS PARK

Nash The Slash!
2:10- sandy does the same head bob as she does on the "Spoons on Casby Awards 1985" . that happenes to be at 0:34 of that video. yeah i got nothing better to do...
I remember MuchMusic played the $h&* out of this vid.
wasn't this song used for a commercial back in the 80's?
Yes it was. It was used in a Maxell VHS Beta video tapes commercial. :)
When there's high production and poor salesmanship, I see Destiny's work.
Would have been perfect for that border agent show
1:02 Live Earl Jive
Nash the Slash @ 1:43?
Yes, he's also in the cabin later on. RIP Nash...
Ok...But why is he trying to look like Limahl?
A little different than the studio version
It most likely is.
ya agreed. and its derrick, not derek =)
my god father is on the drums =)
Derrick
Is that a condom on Pinocchio's nose? 1:28
Hmm where did the stewardess go when the plane loses control?? She just bailed!!
blocking frequency . . . lies . . .
I wrote this song but it was stolen from me. I called it "Throw No Pies" originally.
LOL @ fotopraktica
*****
I'd prefer that the TSA did the lie test like in this movie, than viewing everyone's junk like they do now 28 years later.
hate it . . . nope i was lying . . . i had big hair . . . this video was strangely ahead of its time for "1984"
This is probably my least favorite Spoons video ,it's pretty painful to watch it due to the excessive cheesiness factor ,it should have been on fromage '84 .
People were generally more happy because the drugs of the 80's were tamer.
cheesy video
Bad video. Wonder if they still have the same hair? LOL
what a terrible video....great song though
So pretty much don't believe in man made fairy tales (religion).
