On behalf of Richard and me, we really appreciate this information. Thank you! I used about half a tube of Seal All on my new (old) $12 Hy-Lo. I made the lantern do the Hula for a short while and then it stopped moving. Now, I'm letting it cure. I think it will do great. I also stripped all of the goofy red and white paint. Thank you again for this really helpful information. Roger
After watching this, I used seal-all for a leaking crimp leaving a circular stain where it sat. This was a USA Dietz little wizard bought for $14. I haven't found the date just a bunch of numbers on the tube or I'd give the date. It is not a stepped fount. Looks good and dry after sitting on paper now. I'll light it tonight to celebrate. Thanks much for the tips.
Thank you, Robert - I had a new lantern that after a few weeks developed a leak around the crimp that goes around the bottom of the fount- I cleaned it up, added that SEAL ALL, And did the macarana 😂😂 let it set a couple days and voila !! No more leak! That is some good stuff. I always have doubts about sealing a kerosene leak as it is so hard to stop- But this stuff did it !! Thanks again for the info on this! It works !!
Nice tidbit on working with a baffle. I had never thought about that. Then again, I have never had to seal a fount with a baffle in it. But you never no when that may come along. Thanks Rob!
I use roofing tacks in the fount to loosen up the 'crud' on the bottom of the tank. I've not tried the 'Seal All' yet. I do swear by POR 15, though it can take a long time to cure.
Robert! Had to come back and say THANK YOU! My Dietz #100 "Little Wizard" is running like a top and no longer leaves a puddle on the countertop! Awesome channel my friend! 👍
I just used KBS 5300 gold standard tank sealer on a brand new Kirkman Champ No.2, mostly for a protective layer in the tank against corrosion, and to ensure the seam for the bottom crimp doesn't weep/leak like my 2 brand new Dietz Air Pilots do. Having those air pilots is like dating a supermodel,.. beautiful, but nothing but trouble. I'm giving the KBS an extra week or so to cure, because its been cold here in NJ. Its like a thick paint with elastomers in it, and needs to cure 96 hours at 77 degrees F. Patience Grasshopper.....................
Worked like a charm on an old leaky MEVA 863 HURRICANE OIL LAMP CZECHOSLOVAKIA. Thank you, this lantern has great sentimental value and it was great to get it working leak free!!✋🏼🇨🇦
That lantern going the background looked so grungy, I immediately fell in love with it! It reminded me of the prop lanterns in old western movies -- you know, the kind that accidentally gets knocked over and bursts into a ball of flame burning down the barn in a minute and a half instead of going out like they actually do. May you never clean it. BTW, the sealing information was pretty good too.

Used seal all to fix a leak in a no 2 blizzard that leaked bad. Worked great and kept this lantern from the dump. Works great and looks good. Thank you for the info, hot seal all at auto parts store.

As a tip, if the seal all doesn’t spread and cover all the area you wish, ad some acetone, let it sit and soften the seal all, roll it around some and then let it sit for a few days. Acetone is a solvent for that stuff, it worked for me. Sometimes it comes out a little thick. Good luck! 🙏
How long do you usually allow the seal all to cure for? It's been 6 hours and I can definitely smell MEK emitting from the font (spelling?). Just picked up my first lantern! An old Dietz #100 "Little Wizard"! Thanks for the vid!

Hi Roger, Great information. I have an old rusty Dietz #2 D-Lite , it's weeping kerosene from the wick area and the wick is turned down low (1/8" visible) above the wick adjustment gear. Have any suggestions? Thanks
Are you addressing Roger or, me? I'm Rob. :) Leaking fuel from the burner? Sometimes if the burner isn't sitting right, you'll get some slosh, make sure the burner is locked into place on your D-lite! Hope that helps.
Hi Robert. My Dietz lantern seeps all around the seam. Is SEAL ALL thin enough to coat the entire inside of the tank or do I have to mix it with a thinner. Thanks
Oh, seam leaks! You know what I’d do? Empty the lantern, make sure it’s dry completely and, buy some clear nail polish! Apply to the seam all around and then let it dry. Should fix that. 🙏
@@philipsabasino6051 you can brush it along the outside, which I’d say would be the most effective in this case. If its ugly, use acetone and remove it and pour it inside, roll it around. Keep me posted! 🙏
My experience is that it actually can be resealed. I've had a can in my shed that I've opened and used a few times. Just make sure that the can is resealed well and there is no product on the top of the can. But it has worked perfectly fine for me.
Not a problem with Red-Kote. It stays flexible and doesn't get super hard like POR-15. I've had a can and been using it for almost 10 years. If it gets too thick I just stir in a little acetone.
I might have missed it but i didnt catch the name of the product you are using. i dontcseeca link to it. i scaned ocervthe transcript but didnt see it there either. you were moving it around too much for my old eyes to read the label. What is it? I bought a cheap little oil lantern from hobby lobby. it leaks from the arms. I'd hoped to find a fix. Thanks! Yoyr lamps are awesome!!
That’s too bad, they seem to do that, sadly the Chinese stuff is prone failing. You can try clearing out the fount and adding in some Seall-All and see if that fixes it.

I have an actual issue with this too. If you tip the lantern just a little bit the kerosene leaks out the air tubes. This was a super cheap lantern I got off Temu, so didn’t have high expectations for it. Actually does work well just leaks when tilted a little bit.

Years ago the old timers used a length of window sash chain as a tank scrubber, I tried it and it works great... =)

Great advice I just did exactly as you said To fix the holes on my rayo 92 and it is drying in my garage right now.
That lantern going the background looked so grungy, I immediately fell in love with it! So it can take days for it to harden? Package says 4-6 hours cured it’s been 14 and it’s still wet and smells

Bob the Lantern Guy turned me on to por15 . It's a great product but once you open the can it can't be resealed .

Oh, don’t use the lantern from Hobby Lobby, those are purely decorative, not functional.

I have a little chinese hurricane lantern that has a leak around the seam at the base of the lantern.
