  • This is Part 17 of our series, 10 (COMMA!) OUT OF TEN, where we rate 10 games on a 10 point scale from our two unique perspectives!
    We hope this helps you get a better sense for our game preferences, and remember.....
    1) ratings are subjective, based on our own individual enjoyment of the game, they're not a judgment on game quality or the likelihood you would feel the same,
    2) our game preferences are ever evolving and these may change,
    3) we respect and would love to hear your differences of ratings in the comments... that's what makes gaming so fascinating and full of joy. There is something for everyone! 💜
    Have a great week ahead,
    A&M xx

    Thanks for stopping by! We're Amy & Maggie aka ThinkerThemer. We're an Australian couple with two very different perspectives of what makes a great board game - Amy (Thinker) is all about the mechanics and enjoys tight, competitive games, and Maggie (Themer) is all about the storytelling and the theme of the game, and the 'world' that the designer is trying to create. Subscribe to our channel to hear us talk about these two elements of a game, and how well integrated we feel these are in delivering a cohesive and wonderful game experience.

    For me, with Le Havre - "I don't care if I'm winning, LOOK AT ALL THIS FISH I JUST GOT!" It's so weirdly satisfying.

    Thank you, Amy and Maggie, for your kind words! Most of all, thank you for your insight and thorough look at our game. It is such a warm feeling when people understand all aspects of the design and enjoy playing the game. Especially for us as first-time creators, it gives us extra motivation to design games that make people happy and put a smile on their faces.

    Just delighted this series is back! My game group has made a concerted effort this year to cut out new purchases and play through our backlog, as well as using things like the Gen Con games library to encounter time tested classics. So, I find myself really resonating with content like this, that considers more than just what’s the new hotness. Thanks so much!

    Le Havre is a master piece. For me it's one of the best and elegant games ever made. It's as simple as amazing. I love this game. The art is not the best but the iconography, colors, etc, are perfect and easy to understand.

    It would be great if this series never ends! I got into modern gaming in 2019 and its so nice to see coverage of older games. I'm looking into Le Havre now!

    So excited to see this series back!! Love it. I really love all your thoughts on these games. I love Le Havre but haven't played it in years! Maybe it needs to hit the table at DTW! :) I also love For Northwood! Such a great solo trick taker. Who knew that could ever be done! I also Absolutely love GWT! I have New Zealand but haven't played it yet. I might add that to the DWT list! 🤠🤠 Thank you for another great video! Always the best part of my Mondays!

    Le Havre is a powerhouse. Simple to learn but crunchy as hell if you want to do well. If it was released now it would be awesome, let alone 16 years ago. Recently reprinted too.

    I was so excited to see the Imperium box on the thumbnail for this video, I saw this on your shelves ages ago, and when you started the 10, out of 10 series I was very excited to see what you two thought of Classics and Legends (I love watching your videos as you often see things in games that I don't, so they give me an alternate way of looking at the games). It looks like I might need to add this to my collection too, and not hold my breath waiting for the review of the first two games 😀. Love this series and all the reviews. I don't always feel the same about the games you talk about as you do, but you always give me a new way to think about each game, and love the way you both approach games from opposite angles.

    I only played Le Havre: The Inland Port, against AI on android, and I loved it, but from what I understand it's very simplified and not much like original Le Havre.
    I really want to try and play the original Le Havre game, I think I might love it because I do love that sort of "spin off", it is just a too basic of a puzzle for me, which ended up being most effectively solved in the same way by me in every playthrough. I need something more complex with better, more involving and brainy "thinkier" puzzle, which I suspect Le Havre would provide for me.
    I want to try Heat, I think I will love it, due to the card hand management and game play, and I do like the idea of races to some objective(whether they are point based goals or reaching some finish line).
    It's just that I don't play many games due to my lifestyle and personality and lack of interest in board gaming around my immediate vicinity. And I already bought Quest For El Dorado for my family(my young niece) which is a card based deck building racing game, which I love, and it's not getting played due to lack of interest from others (and due to big table hog and inconvenient difficult reach to game components for all players, compared to games my family is used to playing).
    I personally don't think "the goal" of this "10, OUT OF 10" series should be trying to quickly get through your whole collection of games and don't think it should "ever" end. Unless when you really get bored of it, of the format(type of video you do).
    It's natural and understanding that your collection keeps growing, and even very exciting.
    And it's even a huge plus for me when you say by the rate of your game playing and acquiring trends, that you probably might not ever "finish" going through all the games, because that probably means there will be never-ending this type of video content from you, for me to enjoy every once in a while.
    No matter how much time it takes you to film another part of the series between other types of content you make, it is great exiting when the new part of this series does come, at least for me it is!
    I absolutely love this series and have re-watched and re-listened (usually while I work) every part multiple(many) times over and over again. I just love hearing your opinions and discussions of all various games and your likes and dislikes, your explanations/teaches of the games and your experiences playing them (as well as any other personal info from your lives you share along while generally discussing board games).
    This episode of the series was especially exciting for me due to the games you were rating this time. Lots of games I heard about and wanted to hear your opinion on, and am to bigger extent interested in playing too. Thank you for choosing all these particular games in this set. It made for even bigger excitement while watching it than what it feels on average(which is still always high).
    I love your passion and excitement for board gaming, and I commend you for the great work you have been doing on this channel. Well done! And just keep up doing this kind of work, talking about board games.

      I wasn't captured by the theme, so it got a bit repetitive after some plays due to high luck factor and low decision space IMO, even with custom gear cards. YMMV, I think it was too hyped for me.

    Love the Imperium series. My copy of Horizons took a bit to arrive and then I took a bit more to make an insert to house all 3 games in the Horizons box.
    So i only just played it for the first time last night! I lost miserably to the Taino bot.

    For racing games, have you tried Steampunk Rally?

    • @terhuneb
      @terhuneb Před 4 měsíci

      I couldn't get into Steampunk Rally. The action bits where you "run your engine" is simultaneous and heads-down, which kind of sucks all the excitement out of the race. You finish that phase and you don't really know why another player got so far ahead without analyzing their machine. Sure, you could play it turn based, but then it takes too long and it's not very exciting to watch someone manipulate the dice on their own engine. Although I have not played them yet, it seems like Camel Up and Downforce are the sweet spot of quick and fun, but not so serious that it's a chore to teach and play.

    • @WorldwideSkillshareInc
      @WorldwideSkillshareInc Před 4 měsíci

      Downforce was fun for me too as I played a Mario Kart version. It did play quicker with the bidding rather than the drafting of SR but SR was a better game overall for me as it was fun to see the funky cars everyone made and manipulating dice gives my brain more to chew on then getting lucky with card draw. @@terhuneb
