I don't want to be someone's sun; I want to be someone's moon, the small bit of light that remains with them when it's dark, comforts them, and lights their way. I want to be the song of their caged bird, and if I'm lucky, they will be the same for me.
That's deep... and beautiful.
+CDG Whoa...........
+CDG wooooow you are so insightful that was gorgeous!
+Rmusic 15 Thank you. It's the truth, really...
+CDG my roomie aka the grandson and I always "put a piece of my love in the moon for you" when we are apart...
This song brought me such hope back when I felt trapped but was still too young to fly away. Ten years later, that cage is gone. Thanks Lindsey.
My most recent cage just flew open this week and I find myself listening to this song again. 💜
This video is entirely symbolic. The “cage” (the room) and its walls is actually the journey of life. As you can tell, she doesn’t escape from it just like we cannot escape from life’s constraints and problems. The violin lights the bulbs and candles, bringing with it warmth, light, and happiness into the dark and cold room. She never escapes but she finds joy within her cage and is content.
Whoever you are, I hope you find your violin in your cage.
I have believed that the candles and bulbs are us, her fans. Notice how her playing the violin gives us light to shine around us. Notice how we are still shining after the song ends. Even her violin shines. Yes...the Power of Lindsey!
I needed this comment, thank you soooooooo much 🥲💝
oh man, i wanted to cry when i heard this song and read your comment.
I don't know about you, but the Lord is my violin I the cage, he gives me all of the light and happiness I will ever need in my life this song really expresses that. whatever our "violins" may be.
Wonderfully told, Ka. :) Yeh I realized I've found my violine (work, I really enjoy doing) like 2 years ago and my candle (representation for my husband) like... 10 years ago. I am trapped in a cage but at least I am no more alone.
This song inspired me to write a poem, hope everyone likes it 😊
Doors that will not open
Lights that will not light
I will play my song
Watch me shine so bright
The dark is just a canvas
A cage is just a room
Block the sun, turn on the night
And I'll dance by the light of the moon
Nice bro.
That's beautiful, I love it.
🥰💖💖💖
That’s awesome 🤩
Sending love ❤️
Unless you are Lindsey Stirling who can light up candles with the beautiful sound of a violin, I do not recommend lighting candles if you are stuck in an air-tight room with no escape...
"You can't take darkness out of a dark room, but you can fill it with light." ~ Lindsey Stirling
When the world plunges into darkness, Guardians come to Earth, people whose aura is indigo. They carry the overwhelming power of light, kindness and warmth to this world. Her smile kindles hearts, her music changes people for the better.
Each person has a guardian angel that protects him, and we do not know what form he can take. Today is an old man, tomorrow is a young girl. But do not let its appearance confuse you: an angel is fiercer than any dragon. But not in battle, but in attempts to reach out to us and remind who we really are. For only we ourselves have complete control over the world that we create around us.
The indigo children are all a bunch of 40-year-olds now
I've always loved this song, but it's taken on a whole new dimension this year. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talents with the world, Lindsey!
Am I the only one on a Lindsey marathon right now? Basically marveling at how far she's come...makes a little waitress like me feel inspired
It's so beautiful when, at the end, she's playing a violin in the middle of a circle of glowing light. Lindsey Stirling, you are incredible.
I'm that one! The one with the overflowing flame that's about to burn down the building!
...
Wait, what?
I luv your user pic it's bootiful

Something about that stuttering synth in the background is really nostalgic. Love it!
this song takes me places =)))
To me, this song is of overcoming fear and depression in a very long battle. When I hear it, I feel kind of sad but stronger at the same time.
If I were a bird
I would glide to the sky
I would brush the wispy clouds as I fly by
And then I would dive through wind and breeze
And I would feel the earth as it lives and breathes
I’d slice through the air with fiery wings
And against the white sun I would begin to sing
And through the hush of the air my story would go
Whispering secrets it would blow
Then the the rivers would gurgle and the trees would hiss
Of the dark swirling depths of my soul’s abyss
Gold eyes ablaze and bronze talons alight
To the sun I would soar as it sinks into night
And as my soul burns from it’s scorching heat
My freedom as a bird would be complete
To the Heavens I’d go to finish my song
Melodies drifting all nightlong
And after I died everyone would know
Of the bird whose eyes would always glow
Who’s secrets were kept locked within
Her flamed wings never to be seen again
Thank you!
I love it...
I tried to sing it on the song's melody. and it fits really well. wow beautiful lyrics
I love it :3
but it's "whose" not "who's eyes/secrets"
Haha "who is eyes"
Thanks :)
This made me cry. What a powerful wordless tale. WHEW! I can relate to this. Trapped in a cage & the only source of 'light' is what you create. You keep making music because it's the one little joy you can nurture into all of your happiness. It's kind of hard not to feel this way when the world can be such a dark place. Keep creating beauty, & the world will never run out! It's up to each of us to create our own light.
Bill Cowart deep!!
Может, стоит посоветовать. Жить!!!
Right, why does the caged bird sing? Because in it’s heart it remembers flying free. The song it sings keeps that memory and hope alive.
She's definitely very pretty and adorable, very creative, and a musical legend of this time. Will go down in history along side beethoven and Mozart.
Qqqq
I see the candles as other people's souls and she's just delighted to lighten them through her music.
This song literally shows the flame that music lights in the soul
I remember listening to this awesome song such a long time ago. Apparently Lindsey's dress caught on fire on one of the takes XD
***** How???!
+Lindsey Stirling The Girl on Fire
THIS GIRL IS ON FIREEE. THIS GIRL IS ON FIREEEE. HER DRESS CAUGHT ON FIREEEEE. THIS GIRL IS ON FIRREEE
lol
I'm not surprised, every time I see this video I have visions of that tutu catching one of those candles and....
3:03 she's like okay that was fun but how am I gonna get outta here
Her music is transformative. I love listening to her music to be uplifted.
Listening to this song at 5:30 in the morning when the morning birds are freshly singing alongside her violin is such a soothing atmosphere.❤️✨
Youre music doesn't need words
Yes, no words, no noises, no language, just music, picture and feeling... like Dead Island and Payday 2 launch trailers
*your
+Rookie251 thank you I know it's not right but I live in Germany and my phone corrects every English word
obsessed with Pentatonix I love your name. ❤
Where words fail, music speaks. Halleluia! Haaaaaleluia!
This song says different things to each of us; to me, it is the theme song of a soul breaking free (from self, addiction, bad habits, a toxic relationship, et al).
Nice :D
She is and always will be an angel in face of stringed music. I adore and worship you Lindsey ❤️
i love Lindsey.... she give her music so much passion and love and you can really hear it.
Amazing..shes trapped but she finds a way to light her darkness with her music.
i feel like its not only music, but every person have this thing which lights their darkness. Music, drawing, writing.
thats the power of art guys.
Music will bring you light, music will make you free...
💙
This is my favorite song by her, I listen to it every time everything feels hopeless and somehow it makes it melt away.
The sounds that woman makes can sooth a hurt soul. Hope she knows she's Savin lives with that tune xoxo appreciate it
I feel like I can relate to this song. Everywhere I go, I feel trapped by the thoughts of myself and others. I feel isolated from people who exclude me without any reason to. This song helps me to relax and just remember to put myself infront of those who don't matter to me.
Keep up the good work Lindsey. You've been an inspiration.
I can't help my heart in tears. its so very emotional song.
+Jeric Narito The most heartbreaking sound is when you can hear the violin cry. The chorus is happy but the verses are sad at some parts.
I remember seeing her perform this live back in 2013, was an amazing "change of pace" moment. Great track.
Boy, does she know how to write a song! Every time I hear this, I can't help but get up and dance with tears flowing down my cheeks!
Thank you so much Lindsey, for giving us this song! I hope you can see that your music is changing peoples lives, I can see it in their comments! You deserve so much more than what you've got! I will never forget your music!
I have heard your music in other youtube videos and even in live shows! People recognize your talent and they want to dance to it! You are a light to the world that will never go out.
I love you! Thank you for all you do!
The Caged Bird has Taken Flight and it now has become The Phoenix ;)
I get it
I don't
Ally di Angelo 👍👌👏 good one
I didn't even think of putting those two together with this song! Makes more sense to me than when I played Zizi's Journey followed by Take Flight and the Phoenix.
The Caged Bird has Taken Flight and has Transcended its shadow into the Phoenix of Elements. ;)
When I listen to this song, I can't help but think of someone trying to protect someone else that is hurt or in danger. When the music gets faster, that when the protected begins fighting, and when it slows back down, he/she goes and helps/tends to the victim.
Idk, it's just a weird thought of mine. XD
+Lindsey Stirling thanks! It really makes me happy to hear that coming from you!!
+Lindsey Stirling When ever I listen to this song I just have to hear it again and again because it's the most beautiful masterpiece I ever heard!
+jeff lindahl
That was incredibly well said.
+Gabe Williams why thank you~ XD
I LOVE IT!!! Very creative!!
2024 anyone?
Me
Yes yes yes
Yes
Never left...Never will. 😂
Me
Lindsey, your violin is truly magical, powered by your kind heart and spirit.
507 people are locked in a dungeon without a violin.
510 now...
***** 512...
Stop counting them! It's depressing!
not just sure how someone can dislike this.
Of course to it's depressing to see to someone disliked this!
570*
I can understand the history you wanna tell with this song. Applauses for you.
I'm still hearing that in 2019 and i really love it. Thanks a lot Lindsey.
I know a lot of her songs stand on her own but does anyone else think this song, Shatter Me, Lost Girls and Firefly could be listened to like one big story, with Firefly being the beautiful epilogue?
Does the music just speak to you because it does to me it makes me feel like I can do anything
:)
Same
yeah me too it helps me concentrate on my goals
same. it makes me feel free and it courage's me to go and fight through things
Same here! I listen to this while I put work into my new home business. It motivates me.
to me, this song conveys how music is her release. when she feels trapped... caged.... music frees her for the moment. It is her light during dark times.
I only wish that this song was longer. If I am stressed or just feeling down I can put this song on listen to and things are looking up already! I've only recently found Lindsey but I've already bought all 3 of her albums and some single cuts also.
P.S. This is from an old southern rocker.
💜
The music she plays is enchanting but there's always that one other thing that makes her music shine, her smile.
Lindsey, I have been having a very hard time lately. My marriage of 15 years has ended, I have 2 teenagers, one of which is adopted. Sometimes when I am at my wits end I will pull up your videos, and your musical style and the sound of your violin always brings me back. The way you seem to absolutely love to play. the fact of your cute little smile. Those things are what make you truly a treasure to this Earth. I just wanted you to know how you inspire some of your fans... and I am truly a fan.
How does someone get to collaborate with you? My daughter has an amazing talent with her vocals. She is the adopted one and is a very troubled youth with nothing but her aspiration to be an artist keeping her grounded to this world.
Oh I just realized I wasn't signed in under my page, but it's cool.
this song for me is one of the human's greatest achievements
This is so true
Absolutely. Without question.
This one and crystallize. Best songs of the all univers. Lol
This song is why I picked up violin again back when it came out. Been a great 8 years :D
This song has saved my life so many times. Thank you Lindsey Stirling for being there for me in my darkest times.
To me, this said darkness of the mind at the beginning. Trapped and alone in the darkness in your head (maybe mental illness). But then discovering something that brings you light and joy and suchlike. Beautiful.
This song is my favourite
What I find the most amazing about the song is the inspiration. We are limited only by what we BELIEVE we cannot do. Therefore, we can do anything if we simply believe we can.
Gracias Lindsey ❤
I see this video as the reflection of someone inner emotional state , the wall representing the barriers you set upon yourself but instead of searching to break them you have to find that "light" within yourself and once you find it you will forget about those walls and find your inner peace. Music is such an amazing thing , even more so in Miss Stirling hand.
I would really love to see Lindsey start making these type of music videos like the other ones she made in 2011-2012 and i'm pretty sure a lot of other people would like to see them to!
I totally agree🙋
like Transcendence too... and We Found Love... love them... :)
out of all the instruments out there in the world, it's always the violin that touches my heart and soul the most. i dont even know why
This is the perfect music for homework. It’s relaxing and makes me think hard. The only side effect I can think of is dancing so hard you can’t breath
I love the way she dances while she plays
this song is so beautiful. it is so touching..
***** Porfa sabes hablar español ¿????
D; al final del video este no entendi nada xD
Si no sabes hablar me jodi D;
La verdad creo que no habla español, pero espero lo mismo :v
Lindsey Stirling: The most beautiful, talented, and wonderful woman who has ever existed. There will be no one like her for the rest of eternity.
This is so beautiful! I'm going to play this on my violin!
Olivia Blair and did you learn it!!! :)
H-Rown Scrub
it's crazy.. I have listened to this song for years and just now watched the video.. this is the song that would lift me out of depression. the video matches perfectly. I would feel alone and in a dark place. this song would always lift me up and brighten my mood. this video reflects those exact feelings and captures them perfectly.
This is one of those music videos that needs you to watch the video to get or understand the beauty of the music.
Timothy Allen te lo diré en español . por mi representa los límites humanos dentro de una habitación sin salida y una luz interna a través de la melodía, que encuentra en su misma desesperación y serenidad
Same here. This song always seems to lift my spirits up a bit whenever my depression kicks in really hard and im feeling lonely and worthless.
I agree!!
My favorite song. Beautifully done
I wish all of your music sounded like this. Just a bass line a snare some back ground music and sounds and that beautiful violin making it all come together. So good. Love it.
This artist offers a wonderful touch to a classic discipline it's refreshing to hear real music being performed at such a magnificent level
If this were in Bioshock Infinite, nobody would complain because it would fit so well.
I've watched this every year since it came out... for some reason it helps bring the holiday season feeling in me... so nostalgic.
Your music helps with the flow of my pencil whilenI'm coloring. Thank you. I have been struggling artisticly for so long and your music seems to have awakened something inside of me again.
When I first discovered Lindsey it was this song. And till this day I still break the repeat button constantly every single time it's recommended to me or pops up on replay. It's just such a beautiful song. But fun at the same time. And it has a beat you can fallow with. And for someone Autistic like me it has the right tempo and range of sounds that just calms me down. It's my go to song. Will always be my go too song. Not to down play the rest of Lindsey's work I listen to other tracks just as much. But this one tops em in my opinion. Love it.
This one is very sad and beautiful in its own way...moved me to tears.
Awesome music and Lindsey is simply amazing. Just wanted to point out that fire would actually burn all of the oxygen in that closed room very fast =)
You must be fun at parties..
Le Cat Hehe, yeah, I know my note sounds boring =)
Well, I actually love people like you. I'm too curious hehe, interesting fact!
***** I honestly don't think that this few candles would burn all the oxygen in that room...
How big was the room in m³?
And how many candles/fires did you have?
T0LPm
Do you actually care enough to spend the time to figure it out?
2021 and this song still one of my favorite 💙
The violin music alone is incredible. The dancing is always so lively and Lindsey Stirling has this fresh happy look all the while, as if this is her natural state, twirling about beautifully with a violin, playing the sweetest of music... all of it together is a nearly overwhelming experience like nothing else I've seen. Thank you, Lindsey Stirling and crew, for your art, music, passion, and inspiration!
One of my best friends is moving away to Canada and I want to cry when I hear this cause I know that I wont see her in person again. This is our song. I'll miss you so much Mily 💔💔💔💔. You'll always be apart of my family
canada is nice people... theyll let you visit :)
A similar experience my best friend moving to florida and I live in New York the saddest thing
MasterofTides7 rude
Go, and travel :) Visit her in Canada. I wish I still had a best friend. Hold onto that friendship ♡
MasterofTides7 never say never
Beautiful and original! Love your work. I had to giggle at the idea of lighting candles in a sealed room, though.
heyou1 haha well yeah...you kinda have a point there
These beats makes me cry n am here after 7 yrs .u r amazing lindsey
this speaks my soul. never gets old
I'm melting away with this beautiful music
This song is really beautiful! :) This song is among my faves of hers (of which there are many) :D
love this song :)
Me encanta💓💓
I love how her songs always makes me feel free
She found the way out, or how to light the cage, making her art. Everyone has to find out his meaning in life, something to make life worthwhile.Inspirating girl!
Linsey you light up the world..
This just shows how much music can sooth even the most trapped soul. Hows its melodies can brighten the darkest room of your heart.
My little sister plays violin and her violin teacher played this song at one of their concerts before she moved and hearing it live for the first time sent shivers down my spine it was so beautiful
it gets stuck in my head, but its so awesome I don't mind :)
It's so emotional without any words
Hard to believe I've been whistling to this song for 8 years now. Still fun in a morose and maybe morbid kinda way, since it sounds like a bird crying.
All it takes is a little bit of light to shine through the darkness... beautiful song thank u Lindsey
I believe Song of the Caged Bird has a similar meaning to Shatter Me.
i don't know i thought this one wanted to say "if you lost everything, you could still find your reason to be happy.."
But i don't know that's just what i feel
Leah Olson you're right! :) they are are extremely similar. However I would say the meaning to Song of the Caged Bird is making the most of your current situation. No matter how negative a situation is, you can always find even a bit of light. Shatter me on the other hand is more of breaking free from the constraints you may have formed around yourself or braking free from a situation and allowing yourself to find happiness and live again. That's just how I see it :]
yes... i think so... :)
It's based on the poem by Maya Angelou.
Shatter Me seems to be about not realizing you want to break free until you've seen the better world outside.
Song of the Caged Bird seems to be about making your own light even when you're completely trapped in the dark.
They both seem to be about being trapped, but one wants to break free and the other learns to make the best out of any situation. They start similar but take the opposite path.
Sencillamente Lindsey Stirling es espectacular tocando el violin su forma de mostrar el amor hacia este grandioso instrumento
This is my life theme song... So beautiful... Lindsey has inspired me to pick back up music as I have fallen away from it for around 9 to 10 years. Only this time, I'm learning to play the violin.
Kelly Fullerton GO FOR IT!!! :D
Kelly Fullerton When you make Music i will Listen to you play k Thank you for being inspired to play it Rocks the Heart😀😀😀
How could a song be that sad and happy at the same time? Beautiful and Absolutly brilliant like most of her songs
Oh God i love this song. One of my favorites!!! I can listen to it and never get tired of it. Makes me want to learn to play the violin
esto es musica de verdad .... deberia tener 1000.0000.0000 de visitas
tienes mucha rason
estoy deacuerdo es una diva del violin
solo tengo una duda... que es caged?
Mauro Maniago en español la cancion se llama "cancion del ave enjaulada"
Mauro Maniago enjaulado.
This song deserve much more! Seems like every one forgot it
At first I thought it was going to be sad but then she was able to make her own happy shining world in a dark place. With encouragement of course
Absolutely love the message of this song! To me, it's that no matter what circumstances you find yourself in, whether there is a way out or not, you can make the best of every situation by doing the things you love. And when you do, it will bring light to darkness. Thanks for the song and the video :)
I miss the old Lindsey. This song, Transcendence, Elements, Crystallize,... they were all masterpieces (not to mention the covers). The new songs all sound alike to me. The dancers, a ton of effects, all the dubstep sounds - it has gone too mainstream for me.
I agree, have followed Lindsey forever now and it's not the same still good but it lacks the soul and devotion to the music that she use to have
Every single type of entertainment has this problem. When someone makes a unique TV show, movie or music it's exciting but when they do this unique entertainment for a long time it doesn't have that same Excitement. Because of this the creators will try something new but that something new is usually mainstream. Probably because this mainstream entertainment is new to them but of not to us. If creators stick with their unique style people will get tired after a while so they must try something new. You can't make everyone happy no matter what you do. Every entertainer dies out because of this cycle. Sorry for the long comment and grammar mistakes :P
Aw that's kind if a shame because she really tries to make every song and every album as magical as when she first started
As much as I agree (in a way), every artist develops and changes in their own way. I, personally, have thoroughly enjoyed Lindsey's work since the beginning and think the change in complexity and artistic expression is marvelous. For instance: "Mirage"- amazing piece! Absolutely mind-blowing because it is so different from Lindsey's previous work. Yeah, it's not the classics, but she still proudly performs her oldies because they are wonderful, y'know? Now, as a professional cellist, I understand that she may not be the best violinist in the world, but she is still definitely a trendsetter, and that's what made me a fan. I still think she's navigating nearly-uncharted waters but integrating things that a general audience can enjoy rather than the special niche audience that's followed her for years- which isn't totally a bad thing.
Sorry for the rant with twists and turns galore, but I thought I could maybe show a different point of view.
When I listen to this piece, I am reminded of how much I long to be were I have always dreamed of and doing what I have always loved. Oppression, obstacles... desperation.
I do indeed feel like a caged bird.
Its crazy how many people come back to this everyday... this song is a masterpiece!!
