    - Good specs (well, this is a flagship phone)

    - compact in size
    - 5G (optional)

That phone was wildly popular, to the point of selling out everywhere in store and they sold the phone with discounted peice for well over a year. I feel like if this is going to be released in the same region, it will receive the same Reception.

Whoaze! I never expected Asus to be the one serious phone manufacturer who actually listens to customers' whishes! When others play around with their multimedia mini tablets, Asus is bringing a phone to people who actually appreciate a phone, that is a phone.
Enough slander on the manufacturers though, I want to say that this for more reasons than the size is an immediate phone of the year, since no similar devices are on the horizon (as far as I know). The battery life is very acceptable given the size and chipset. Overall I prefer telephoto over ultrawide camera, but well done ultrawide is always a plus. Asus' Android variaton has those few nifty features too, like the 'smart ring volume', which again, is something those want who actually use phone as a phone these days. I have nothing against other usecases, and I myself admittedly watch videos via phone, but darn, sometimes I feel people don't hype anything else than displays and stuff that are ultimately not related to a perfect mobilephone experience.
Now the price is steep for anyone who is not a big spender. My absolute maximum for a phone today is 500 €, but likely 300-400 € in actuality, so this phone hopefully gets price cuts sooner or later. It is hard to say how price could have been brought down, but possible savings that wouldn't bother me would be a plastic back, a 90 Hz screen, reduction to splash resistance and a lesser chipset. I'm actually surprised they made such a powerful chip work well in this device, but unfortunately smaller phones usually are not bought by gamers, who would benefit from it. I would be completely satisfied by SD765 level of performance, and from new chipsets I would actually pick either the 768G or 750G for savings, though I don't know if these would offer better or worse battery life in the end, which is always more important than performance, if regular operation is already smooth. I bet Asus must have thought this out.
I'm happy that we finally have a smaller phone, but next we need a small budget phone, which I imagine would be easier to create. The market should offer small phones, at least one model, in price ranges 100-300 € and 350-500 € too, since people buying phones over 500 € are after all in the minority. It's hard to say if these particular people want a big display or a compact device though. Smaller iPhones have sold well, so I guess anything goes, the point being that this group will dictate if ZenFone 8 is a successful product or not, since the device itself truly is excellent.
    Nice review! Asus rocks!

My 3 year old Zenfone 5Z got its last security update a few months back.
The phone is fantastic, hasn't given any trouble to this date and runs heavy games without any issues.
This new variant looks great with its manageable screen size, but, the only issue here is the price.
Asus can replace OnePlus as a flagship killer if they price their products competitively.

Asus is cutting everyone off at the knees. Now I just hope that they keep doing the same with newer version, if they do we will see a forced change across the spectrum. Nokia is already pushing it but I don't think they have enough visibility in the market to force everyone else to change how they are doing things.
