  • Inverurie station - built in 1902 - is very attractive. The Coco Works and the Loco Works remind us of the past. As does Inverurie Loco Works Football Club!

Good video dude; Inverurie is a cool wee place. Moved here a few years back and love living here - lovely views of the local hill Bennachie. 😊

Thanks for the review of Inverurie Station and surrounds. Just an FYI...Garioch is pronounced "Gheerie" as in "cheery".

Thanks for your comment - although I have lived in the West of Scotland for over 35 years the North-east accents and the Doric still thwart me from time to time!

If you look towards the back of platform 2 at 1:29 you can just see the accessibility ramp behind the bike stand. The road bridge over the railway received some upgrades a couple of decades ago, and they took the opportunity to put a ramp in then. Best of both worlds, as the station is now accessible AND still has the lovely old bridge!

Thanks for the comment. I was aware of the accessibility ramp, but that doesn't always stop the new footbridge enthusiasts. Croy station had £3m spent on a new footbridge even though both platforms already had access ramps from the street. Ditto the new station at Robroyston, where most people using the station lifts are local shoppers returning home from Asda/Lidl with their shopping bags! They could quite easily walk round via the road bridge - which has step-free ramps built into the pavements.

Another fascinating video. I regularly pass through Inverurie from Inverness heading to Dyce to offshore but haven’t really looked properly at the station or the town itself. Will definitely have to go for an explore. Did you know the track between Inverurie and Aberdeen used to be single track until a few years ago they dual the track? And sadly beautiful Nairn station is to have its footbridge replaced with lifts and a new bridge..

Thanks for your comment. I believe the aim is to have a regular hourly service between Inverness and Aberdeen. Ironically, when the railway buiders in the 19th Century were exploring connecting Inverness with the south, running the main line via Aberdeen was seriously considered.

About a half mile south from Station Road you can find..... Old Station Road! None of the original Station buildings survive but you can see where some of the platforms used to be. At the other end there is the Kintore Arms Hotel, which used to be the Coaching House. The current Hotel building dates from 1855 and is now a listed building.

Thanks for that comment - I always appreciate it when a viewer fills in a detail I had missed. I did wander along the road to see if I could find any trace of the old station, but ran out of time as I had my heart set on catching the HST to Inverness, which was a very enjoyable ride. Next time I'm in Inverurie I'll have another look!

@@Clivestravelandtrains If you're ever there again, Old Station Road is now a cul-de-sac. Gatehouse Lane, the street next to it, actually has a pedestrian rail crossing at the bottom end. You should be able to see the old station location from there.
