    I know this is an older video but if you wanted to keep some of your speakers at -0db then you wouldn't need to use the overlap function. You would simply play the 1k hz -0db tone and back off the gain until the distortion light is off and your done.

    i don’t know any of this, but i am going follow your method. No overlap on mid & high amp, plus 5 db on subwoofer amp 😅. thanks for the tips, very useful at least you gave a baseline of what is good sound.

    • @SleepyBoiii
      @SleepyBoiii  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes sir ! Always want to have your mids & highs to sound clean ! No distortion or clipping at all ! Just crystal clear. For your subs if you are looking for just pure sq keep it at 0db no overlap, if your subs are a bit underpowered you can clip to your liking , id say 5db 🤷🏽‍♂️, if they are overpowered (in my case) i keep at 0db . I tried to do 5 overlap but the clipping started making my subs stinky. All depends on your setup bro

    Question after setting your gains and overlap on the amps I notice you put your deck/stereo flat. After setting your gains and overlap do you mess with the bass/mids/treble to adjust the sound or does that defeat the purpose of setting your gains in the first place. I notice everyone that has done videos never mentions if you are able to go back to the stereo and adjust your settings

    • @SleepyBoiii
      @SleepyBoiii  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes you can go back always go back to your hu & change a few settings.. Just dont go too crazy with it or else it will defeat the purpose of setting the gains. If you have a 7-13 band eq on your headunit even better. Just dont get to crazy on your eq

  • @roycekelly4774

    Wouldn’t you be better off using a tone generator from an iPhone vs using the CD from SDM? Most people play music through their phone via bluetoooth.
    Seems the best practice would be to use the same tones, but through your iPhone with the volume all the way up on your phone first, and then test your head unit volume for distortion level.
    Thoughts?

    I'm trying to understand more and more of the little details, when it comes to turning the low and high pass filters up and down respectively, do you just leave them there? Do you tune those at the radio if available, or are they usually fine where they're at for tuning with the DD-1? Thanks.

    • @SleepyBoiii
      @SleepyBoiii  Před 3 lety

      Yes you usually leave them where your dd1 sets it to. You can also set your crossovers on your headunit. All up to you though. I personally set my amps & headunit crossver since i do hear a difference then just setting them on an amp.

    Great video, Do you need to have a amp that matches perfect with your woofers, Meaning matching RMS? Seems like gain overlap is not meant for amps that are higher in RMS than woofers? Example- 1200 watt RMS amp combined with 600 watt RMS woofers. By the time you get to clipping wouldn’t it be wayyy over powering the woofer? Any information would be gladly appreciated.Thank you.

    • @SleepyBoiii
      @SleepyBoiii  Před 2 lety

      Yes, i wouldnt use gain overlap on a amp that is higher than subs. So in my case right now in my tahoe... i have 2 15s . Each subwoofer is rated at 1500 rms. I have a 5000w amp to both subs. I wouldnt use gain overlap in my case. Also subs can take more power than they are rated, sending clean power to them.

    • @JV-zt5zx
      @JV-zt5zx Před 2 lety

      Thank you for replying so soon, So in your case do you give your woofers the whole 5000watts from your amp? Is there a percentage you use For example 3000rms woofer times 120% is 3600watts from woofers, Is there a calculation that you use to calculate how much power you give to the woofers before reaching max power? Or some type of rule of thumb?

    • @isidrosevier1125
      @isidrosevier1125 Před 4 lety +1

      Take whatever wattage you want to achieve and multiply it by the load of the speaker then get the square root of that number and that will be the volts you need to be at for that power. So example if I want to get 300 rms to a 2 ohm load I would do.
      300x2=600
      Then you do the square root of 600 would be 24.49 volts so use a multi meter with a o scope to achieve that wattage

    • @SleepyBoiii
      @SleepyBoiii  Před 2 lety

      I would do -3db . That way you can get a little bit more from your subs if they are underpowered. But remember, you can feed a 1500w rms subwoofer to 2500w - 3000w. With no problem. Just run clean power to them with no clipping (0db) and they should take it with no problem. All depends how the sub is built. I have 5000w running to 2 15s. 1500rms each no problem. They need more

    • @SleepyBoiii
      @SleepyBoiii  Před 4 lety +3

      Gain overlap is basically determined my the music you listen to... If you just want pure sound quality you would leave it at 0db overlap.. Which on the dd1+ shows "no overlap"... For your mids & highs i would recommend 0db because you want the cleanest crystal clear mids & highs coming out of your speakers... But if your speakers can handle the power you can lower your db and make your speakers louder... For subs its a bit different they can handle clipping alot more than speakers. If you just want clean bass keep it at 0db. Modified music (slowed, bassboosted, decaf) i would recommend -5db through -8db..
