1997 Rose Bowl - game winning drive

    This is, in a somewhat truncated version, the entire 1997 Rose Bowl winning drive that followed the Jake Plummer touchdown in the fourth quarter. I did have to edit for extraneous content to bring the file under 10 minutes.
    To recap:
    - Jake Plummer scores on a play where, if you were a Buckeye fan at the time, you probably were ready to hang yourself. Hence why I included that Vermeil line about Cooper probably wanting to die.
    - Germaine incomplete pass, 1 minute 29 seconds left. 2nd down.
    - Germaine incomplete pass to the same target, clear drop. 1 minute 23 seconds left. 3rd down.
    - Germaine pass to Dimitrious Stanley. First down. In play. 1 minute 16 seconds left.
    - Germaine pass incomplete to Stanley. 1 minute 9 seconds left. (Omitted due to time constraints: Ineligible man downfield penalty on this play against the Buckeyes. Sun Devils take the loss of down.)
    - Germaine incomplete pass to Stanley. 1 minute 4 seconds left. 3rd down and 10.
    - Germaine pass to Stanley at the 42 yard line of the Sun Devils. 54 seconds left. 1st down and 10.
    - Germaine pass to Stanley at the 28 yard line of the Sun Devils. 46 seconds left, clock stopped on the out of bounds play. 1st down and 10.
    - (Omitted due to time constraints: False start on the next play, via a false snap by Germaine that caused the tight end to flinch. Clock malfunction ensues. 1st down and 15.)
    After the omitted false start penalty, the Sun Devils secondary absolutely falls apart. Just watch. No further edits from this point on.
    Oh and watch Jake Plummer's growing descent into despair.
    To this day, David Boston's little strut in the end zone is my favorite end zone dance.

    Another reason no bowls are going to come to those locations, aside from the cold climate, is that we already have about as many bowls as you can possibly have, the only way to have more is to create bowls for teams that 5 or 6 games. So for those locations to get bowls,some bowls where they are being played now will have to be closed down. No way is the orange bowl going from Miami to NYC, the rose from Pasadena to philly, or the gator from Jacksonville to Chicago. Just simply aint happenin.

      be if you are a Buckeye. Tressel embraced the rivalry, just like Woody did. And Urban knows that the Big 10 Championship goes through Ann Arbor. That's why we own that team up north now. "We don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan..."

      I actually only know one OSU fan and he is dumb ASF. Who in there right mind would voluntarily live in fn ohio. I would rather live in tijuana, Mexico. Is there anything else in columbus other than OSU and a bunch of drunks at all the bars they have there. I guess if I had to live in Ohio, I would be a drunk too. Have a good morning. Lol.

    After the play that began at ASU's 20 and resulted in pass interference on RJ Soward, the ball was moved 15 yards to the 5 yard line instead of half the distance to the 10. WTF?

    • @u2mister17
      @u2mister17 Před 5 lety +2

      Umm, half the distance is used for backing up against the offense. wtf How many times do you need to edit?

    • @catfan5756
      @catfan5756 Před 4 lety

      Not true. I read the rules, but it maybe different in college and I read the pro rules. It says half the distance to the offending teams endzone. Not the offensive teams endzone.

      I think AZ State was poised for the national title and lost it in the last minute and a half. Maybe I'm wrong...But what this game doesnt portray was just what an amazing season Jake Plummer brought to Az state. I think it was quadruple overtime with USC. A couple other overtime games that were thrillers over top 25 teams that elevated Az state almost to the top. What a year..

  • @baco62

    Thats because of the BCS. The Pac Ten has either played the runner-up or another team has played in place of the Big Ten champion. Must be tough playing in your home field for the Rose Bowl every year. How do you do it getting up in your own bed in the morning and going out and playing the biggest game of your life in front of your home crowd?

    Arizona State had for all purposes arrived as a great athletic power in the NCAA right at that time. Then the Sun Devils just disappeared. A massive football scandal with huge numbers of players being arrested. Then Lute Olson out recruited the once excellent ASU basketball program and won an NCAA title at Arizona. The ASU baseball program faded fast after wining several college World Series.
