    The question of explainability is really two folds: 1) What specific factor (or set of factors) was/were most responsible for a given decision or 2) How does the algorithm trains a model and how the the data and algo ultimately drive a decision. I believe # 2 is more easily explained and more important because understanding the process of learning can hint of the model's potential pitfalls. When you have a model with 1000's of parameters it's impossible to wrap your brain around the specific combination of factors that were responsible for a specific decision.

      Exactly, autonomous driving does not make sense if the sensors ($8k to $20k each) cost more than the vehicle itself. The cost of the technology is greater than a dedicated part time human chauffeur. Also the loss of quality at night, fog, rain, hail, smoke, bugs on cameras, dust, and many other conditions that makes the technology useless.

    The bank teller history is definitely not a good example. The number of bank tellers went up because the population went up during the baby boom. Some things you can do at an automated bank teller, other things you can't. A.I. and automization definitely replaces jobs, this is a fact. It also creates new jobs, except those new jobs tend to be tech jobs requiring specialized skills and education. This might be hard for someone who is both young and in the tech industry to see. I've noticed a lot of high-paid tech people becoming disassociated with what its like to be a struggling middle or lower class in America. A lot of people being displaced by automization don't have the skills or openness to learn. This is why education in America needs to be one of our top priorities.

    • @mr.condoriano
      @mr.condoriano Před 4 lety +1

      "A lot of people being displaced by automization don't have the skills or openness to learn" - if you dont have the openness to learn tough luck. We in the west have become so soft its now ridiculous. You have to adapt, that's life! One day programming will not be as relevant as it is now and it will require that particular generation to ADAPT. We cannot tell people "Oh you dont have the skills and youre not open to learn so its okay go back to bed"???? Amazing

      There isn't enough high tech jobs if everyone in America is a PhD in computer science... No, Automation will replace us gradually but eventually fast enough to elminate the need for human labour. We need to restructure our society and how people should run their lives.
      There will be no work (in the traditional sense) in 50 years for 99% of the people. That or climate change kills 99% of people.

      If you are competing on like say self driving cars, you wouldn't share or sell any part of or any product of your algorithm to other companies. I'm sure Google has this whole thing set up in house, but if there's no Scale, they go business as usual, if Scale can reduce cost, they'd fire their in house team and source out the work to Scale.
      Scale does not care, they get data, label and push it back as a service.
