  • In this video I want to show every moment where the iconic phrase “one more thing…” was used during an Apple announcement. Now it was Steve Jobs who began this tradition back in 1999 at the MacWorld expo. And I should mention that today, October 5th, is the seven-year anniversary of Steve Jobs’ passing. So in honor of his memory and incredible legacy, I want to dedicate this video to him. So let’s get started and take a look at the history of one more thing…

It doesn’t seem like Steve devoted his life to making products just to sell product. He was trying to push an entire industry forward, he was inventing the future. It’s really something special and he seemed very excited about that. And it was contagious. I don’t think we will be seeing that again but as a tech enthusiast I’m glad I experienced that.

Even though Apple products were still expensive in the late Steve Jobs era, you could tell they weren’t about making money back then. Steve just had a genuine love for technology and you can tell just how excited he was to unveil the new products they’ve been working on. He also feels less like a professional ceo, and more like your average guy, but with a love for tech.

Nothing’s perfect by any means, but regardless of who is presenting a new product at Apple, Steve’s legacy will always be embedded into that company’s DNA. The hope is; that they will continue to do their best to make him proud.

Part of that's gotta be that Apple under Tim has come to be worth WAY more than it ever was under Steve - meaning he's under so much more pressure.
When Steve died, Apple stock was at $15 (highest it had been up to that point). Today, it's trading at $178!
Back in 2001, Steve could casually put up a slide that says "Power + Sex" (11:48), but everything's gotta be so much more planned through and thoroughly vetted nowadays, without any spontaneity.

We’re at a point where it’s incredibly difficult to truly innovate year after year after year. Nearly everyone is just doing small incremental changes every year and every few years change the design language and so on.
Honestly, as an android and windows user, Apple is still innovating at the same rate as everyone else and they’re a step above m, at least with their mobile devices (apple silicon is untouchable rn). I can’t really speak for their laptops or desktops but from what I understand they’re not necessarily the best in biz as far as consumer products go but I don’t think it’s fair to say they’re just copying everyone. They’re still paving their own road so to speak it’s just they’re not exactly as mind breaking as something like the G4... they’ve had things like Siri, the Apple Watch, the touchbar on the MacBooks, the iPad in general (which it seems everyone but Samsung just gave up on), iMessage (particularly their syncing between devices which I don’t think anyone else does... certainly not as seamlessly) and there’s probably a couple more that I’m forgetting but the point is that they’re still trendsetters just to a lesser extent just because of how technology is moving.
Though with that being said there are other companies that are innovating like a motherfucker (things like foldable displays) but I do believe that Apple did have the ability to create those but chose not to because the tech isn’t quite there yet

@@Fetidaf Apple’s biggest strength is knowing when to say “no”. Samsung says “yes” to everything, and their folding display disaster is a perfect example of why you should say “no” to things that aren’t ready. Apple also says “no” to things they could do really well, but which others can do better. Saying “no” to distractions is why Apple has been so good at what they do.

    • @erickcastillon1613

@@tookitogo yes I do agree the folding display disaster. But then again... its innovation, and with innovation comes error. Error and trial. As many others have said, we are making small increments in our tech improvements. But in the future we will be thanking the tech fathers of our generation for what may come in the future. Im no fanboy of either apple or android. I'm just stating reality. We can't have improvements without failures
EDIT: If it was Apple that started the folding tech, it would have sold like hot cakes, why? Because it's apple. Apple is trusted with making quality products, (take that with a grain of salt)
But apple is great with marketing, look at when they removed the headphone jack, that was a controversial and ballsy move. The iPhone sold like hell. And obviously continue to do so. If Android was the first to remove the headphone jack. The media would have had their head... Apple holds a lot of power with the media and controversy. They're the more likable of the bunch. That's why the folding displays is so looked down upon because it wasn't apple that did it.

    • @tookitogo
      @tookitogo Před 3 lety +7

@@erickcastillon1613 Nobody is against innovation. But it’s highly unwise to release a product whose technology is still far too immature. Apple understands this. Samsung does not. If Apple released a folding display, it’d sell like hotcakes because they’d have waited until the tech was up to the task, so it would actually work well.

@@tookitogo Adding more to your point.
There's the difference btw product model of both companies. Most android phones have almost same software in look and functionality neither they earn th software & services. So they started adding more gimics to phone, Whoever brings best gimic sells best.
Apple on the other hand has great innovations in software to keep user attached to the platform. For Samsung it's necessity to survive due to competition. For apple they can get away with it and then use matured technology later

Võ Đình Minh Khoa I don't think it's just Tim Cook. I have nothing against Tim Cook, I think he was the right guy to pass on the company in the first place because Tim Cook is really good with management and logistic and stuff so he could handle the rise in demand for apple products, set up new factory lines and ship stuff around the globe in time, things like that. But I think since he's way more of a numbers guy than an creative innovator and also the fact that apple is earning more money than ever so shareholders are happy, Apple has lost it's drive and it's technology leadership and is falling more and more behind cause Tim Cook is too long in office (about 9 years). I think thats why so many big names are leaving Apple. They can earn big money everywhere so why not taking on a more prestigious job at an innovative company thats not just selling refresh after refresh with small improvements of the same products...
